DASA Seat Allotment Procedure

The seat allotment procedure in DASA is conducted on the basis of SAT Subject Test Scores and preferences provided by the applicants. A merit list will be prepared by the DASA authorities on the basis of SAT Subject Test scores obtained by the applicants. The DASA seat allotment process is divided into the following steps:

Step 1: Receiving SAT Subject Test Scores

In this step, the NITK Surathkal authorities will take into account all the SAT Subject Test Scores received via the College Board, the USA for the preparation of merit list. In addition to the SAT Subject Test Scores, the eligibility factor will also be taken into consideration by the NITKS officials and thereafter will prepare the merit list.

Step 2: Preparation of Merit List on the basis of SAT Subject Test Scores

The SAT Subject Test Scores of all the eligible applicants will be considered for the merit list preparation. The scores of only those applicants will be considered who will submit the same before the last date. In the case of two or more applicants having the same SAT Subject Test scores, the authorities will resort to a tie-breaking policy.

Tie-Breaker Policy for DASA

  • Applicants with higher marks in the Mathematics Level 2 of SAT Subject Test Score will be given preference

  • Applicants with a higher score in the Physics of SAT Subject Test Score will be given priority

  • In case of a persistent tie, applicants who were born earlier will be placed above in the merit list

Step 3: Allotment of Seats

As per the merit list prepared on the basis of SAT Subject Test Scores and choices provided by the applicants, seats will be allocated. Those on the top of the merit list will be allocated seats in their favoured institutions in their desired courses. If the applicants do not get a seat in their first preferred institute or course, their 2nd preference will come to the front and the process will go on. Those who will not be allocated seats in the first round of the seat allotment process, they will be eligible for allocation of seats in the subsequent rounds.

First Round of DASA Seat Allotment Process

The candidates, in this case, will be handed over a Provisional Admission Letter which has to be downloaded, signed and submitted subsequently at the time of admission. Foreign students have to obtain their valid VISA from the concerned authorities and submit the required documents

  6. Accept & Upgrade: Candidates who have accepted the seats allocated to them and still want to see if better options open up for them in the subsequent round need to go for this option. The Provisional Admission Letter will be issued against the name of such candidates though. In case of a better option opens up for the candidates, the seat allocated to them earlier round will be cancelled automatically. If the opposite happens, then the seat allocated to them in the first round stays put.

  7. Decline: If the candidates are not satisfied with the seats allocated to them and want to go for better options in the IVth round, this option is for them. Once exercised this option, the candidates will lose their right to take part in the IInd and IIIrd round of the seat allotment process. However, they will be eligible to re-register for the IVth round of the seat allotment process and spot allotment round. The vacant seats will be re-allocated to the other eligible candidates.
