Selection Process of MBA Colleges Accepting 60-70 Percentile in CAT 2023
MBA aspirants must understand the CAT selection process 2023 and selection standards of CAT 2023 participating colleges accepting 60-70 percentile in CAT 2023 when applying for MBA admission through CAT. These institutes will contact candidates with CAT scores of at least 60-70 percentile to schedule GD/WAT and PI interviews. CAT 2023 cutoff scores are used to shortlist candidates for further admission processes. The final selection process encompasses the Group Discussion, Writing Ability Test, and Personal Interview. Apart from recognizing CAT scores, some business schools also conduct their own admissions tests while some provide MBA admission without an entrance exam. Take a look at the CAT selection process in detail mentioned below:
CAT Exam - The Common Admission Test (CAT) is primarily an entrance exam that is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management for admission to any of the 21 IIMs and other top-ranked B-schools across India. Candidates who wish to seek MBA/PGDM admission through CAT must qualify for the exam by meeting the CAT cutoff criteria set by the institute where they want to pursue management courses. The shortlisting criteria may vary from one institute to another when it comes to the final selection of candidates for MBA admissions. The CAT score of the candidate is a given weightage of around 20-25% during the final selection, however, this weightage may vary depending on the college.
Written Ability Test - The Written Ability Test (WAT) is an essay writing round, designed to test a candidate’s writing and comprehension skills. Candidates are given a topic that may range from current affairs to even abstract ideas. Approximately fifteen to thirty minutes are allotted for this round. The objective of the Written Ability Test (WAT) is to check how well a candidate understands and evaluates the given topic and the corresponding ideas.
Group Discussion - In the Group Discussion (GD) round, a candidate’s communication skills, confidence, knowledge, and ability to work as a team are assessed. Candidates are divided into groups of eight to ten and are provided with a topic to elaborate on and discuss by putting forward their views. A majority of colleges offering PGDM courses may choose to include all three admission rounds, whereas colleges offering MBA courses might replace or remove the WAT or GD round depending on their preference.
Personal Interview - The Personal Interview (PI) round is the most important one as it carries the highest weightage. In this round, a panel of two to four interviewers assesses the aspirant based on their confidence, managerial skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge, etc. Staying calm and alert can help ace this round and ensure a good chance of securing admission to the candidate’s desired institute.
Final Selection - The final selection of candidates for MBA through the CAT selection process is determined by an array of factors which include all the stages mentioned above. Candidates are evaluated on their performance throughout the CAT selection rounds and other factors like their school academic records, undergraduate academic records, work experience (if any), etc. A composite score is given to a candidate after taking into consideration all these factors and the final selection is made based on the CAT composite score.
