Tamil Nadu is one of the popular states in South India for pursuing MBA course. Every year, thousands of students from different states take MBA admission in Tamil Nadu. MBA colleges in Tamil Nadu are popular for quality education, campus placements etc. The online application registration for TANCET counselling commenced from July 15, 2019, and the last date to submit the application form is August 3, 2019.

MBA colleges in Tamil Nadu are divided into government, aided, semi-government, private college and deemed universities. There are numerous deemed universities in Tamil Nadu that offer MBA admission. Anna University is responsible for conducting the state-level MBA admission process in Tamil Nadu. Almost, all the MBA colleges in Tamil Nadu accept the state-level MBA entrance exam score. Entrance Exams Accepted by Tamil Nadu MBA Colleges:

Anna University is responsible for conducting state-level MBA admissions in Tamil Nadu. The varsity conducts TANCET MBA for state-level MBA admissions. However, some of the private MBA colleges admit students based on national-level MBA entrance exams. Deemed universities across the state also conduct their own entrance exam for MBA course. The list of some of the entrance exams applicable to take MBA admission in Tamil Nadu are as follows: -

Eligibility Criteria for MBA Admissions in Tamil Nadu:

Basic Requirements: Similar to other states, the basic qualification required to join an MBA course in Tamil Nadu is a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% of marks. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will have up to 5% relaxation in the overall qualifying marks. Candidates with arrears in Bachelor’s degree are not eligible to apply for MBA course in Tamil Nadu.

Entrance Exam: TANCET MBA is an important entrance exam to take MBA admission in Tamil Nadu. Only a limited number of institutes consider CAT/ XAT/ MAT/ GMAT/ CMAT score for MBA admission. Therefore, candidates must note that it is mandatory to appear for TANCET MBA exam so that they can get admission under state quota or concession quota. Deemed universities like SRM, SASTRA and others conduct their own entrance exam for MBA course for the candidates who do not have a valid score in national or state-level MBA entrance exams.

Domicile Rules: Only Tamil Nadu residents are eligible to appear for TANCET MBA entrance exam. However, domicile rules do not apply to institutes that accept the score of national-level MBA entrance exams apart from TANCET MBA.

Tamil Nadu MBA Admission Procedure and Important Dates:

MBA admissions in Tamil Nadu are too complex, and it is easy to secure admission with a valid score in any of the national-level MBA entrance exams or TANCET MBA. The admission process of colleges that accept the TANCET MBA score is different from the admission procedure of colleges that consider the score of national-level entrance exams. Tamil Nadu MBA Selection Process:

Tamil Nadu MBA selection process based on TANCET MBA 2019 and national-level entrance exams is different. Therefore, it is important to understand the selection process based on different entrance exams individually.

TANCET 2019 Selection Process: After the announcement of TANCET MBA 2019 results, Anna University will begin the registration for the counselling process. Candidates with a valid TANCET MBA 2019 score must register for counselling through the official website of Anna University or TANCET. Later, Anna University will release the TANCET MBA 2019 rank and TANCET MBA 2019 normalised score of the candidates. Candidates must exercise the options during the counselling process and seats will be allocated accordingly.

Selection Process based on Other Entrance Exams: Candidates who have a valid score in national-level MBA entrance exams can apply for the institutes that accept these exam scores individually. However, the confirmation of admission will be based on the merit of the candidates, i.e., performance in national-level MBA entrance exam, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Deemed Universities across the state also follow similar admission procedure depending on the number of applications received seeking MBA admission.

Direct MBA Admission/ Management Quota Admission: Candidates without a valid score any of the MBA entrance exams need not worry as they can take direct admission through the management quota of the institute. The fee charged under management quota is higher than the state quota or concession quota fees. Private MBA colleges across Tamil Nadu reserve at least 20% seats under management quota.

Tamil Nadu MBA Admission Reservation Policy:

Anna University follows reservation policies strictly for MBA admissions through TANCET MBA 2019. The seat allocation will be based on merit and reservation policies of Tamil Nadu state government. Colleges that accept the score of national-level MBA entrance exams follow their own reservation policies. It is up to the college management to decide the reservation of seats based on different categories.

Documents Required for MBA Admission in Tamil Nadu:

Candidates attending TANCET 2019 counselling or seeking admission in any MBA colleges based on national-level entrance test score must carry the following documents with them: -

  • Tamil Nadu Domicile Certificate (only for those seeking admission through TANCET MBA)
  • Class 12 and Class 10 Certificate or Mark Sheet
  • Caste/ Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Income Certificate (if applicable)
  • UG Provisional Certificate/ Mark Sheet
  • TC (Transfer Certificate)
  • Passport Size Photographs (at least 3)
  • Score Card of Entrance Exam
  • Admit Card of Entrance Exam
