About TANCET 2018

TANCET is a state-level exam, conducted every year by Anna University on behalf of Government of Tamil Nadu. TANCET exam is held separately for MBA, MCA & M.Tech/ME programmes. Through TANCET 2018 exam, candidates can get admission in MBA / MCA / M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Plan./ M.Arch. courses offered by Engineering Colleges/ Universities in Tamil Nadu. Last year, 37,000 candidates appeared for TANCET.

Note: GATE 2018 qualified candidates need not appear for TANCET's M.Tech/ ME exam.

TANCET 2018 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for TANCET 2018 successfully, it is important that candidates meet the eligibility criteria, only then he/she will be allowed to appear for the entrance examination. 

Following is the eligibility norms for TANCET:

  • Candidates appearing for last semester are also eligible but they may need to produce all the documents within the time limit given.
  • Candidates who belong to another state can also apply but the eligibility will be determined by the respective authorities.
  • Candidates with valid GATE score with qualifying marks in relevant discipline of Engineering /Technology, they do not need to appear for TANCET 2018 exam.
  • Candidates who have a valid GATE score with qualifying marks in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL), they have to appear for TANCET 2018 exam also.
  • This Bachelors degree should be under 10+2+3/ 10+2+4/ 10+2+2+1.
  • The degree can be B.Tech/B.E/ MCA/ Sc./ B.Pharm. / B.Sc/ B Com or relevant degree from Science, Arts, Commerce.
  • Candidates with 10+2 + AMIE* (or) 10+3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE.* are eligible to appear for the entrance examination.
MBA

Candidate should have a bachelor's degree from any institute recognised by UGC or should be registered with the Indian Government. Candidates should have scored at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination. 

MCA Candidates should pass a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level from any recognised institute/university and obtained at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination. 
MCA Lateral Entry  Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration in BCA, B.Sc. (Computer Science / Information Technology) with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at Graduate level and obtained at least 50% (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination from any recognised institute/ university
M.E. / M.Tech/ M.Arch/M.Plan  Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent in the relevant field and obtained at least 50 % (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination from any recognised institute/university.

TANCET 2018 Exam Pattern

  • TANCET 2018 is scheduled to be conducted in the month of June 2018 in offline mode (pen and paper-based).
  • It consists of 100 MCQ (Multiple choice questions) questions.
  • The language of the paper is English.
  • The duration of the exam is 2 hours.
  • TANCET for M. Tech/ ME / M. Plan. /M. Arch, the paper will be divided into 3 parts accounting for a total of 100 questions for 100 marks while MBA and MCA have been divided into one part of 100 questions for 100 marks.
  • The candidates will be awarded 1 mark for every correct answer, while 1/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • No marks will be deducted for not attempting questions.

How to Prepare for TANCET 2018

We have given some important tips and tricks for preparing for the TANCET exam. The following preparation tips will help you earn good marks in the examination.

  • Collection of Learning Resources: Candidates should go through study material/learning resources, which they think are appropriate and suitable for them to understand so that they can learn easily.
  • Time Management in Exam: This is the most important factor that needs to be practiced while preparing for the entrance test. Applicants must complete their paper in time with the right answers in order to secure good marks.
  • Correct Schedule: Make a correct schedule and start preparing accordingly. The schedule should have everyday activities but the first priority should be given to studies.
  • Practice: Practice is the key to perform well and practice is what is required to build confidence to face the exam.
  • Beware of Negative marks: One must attempt questions keeping in mind the negative marking in the paper. Be careful while answering any question in the paper.
  • Thorough Revision: Simply by going through previous years' papers and sample papers, you can prepare well for the exam. You can also take references from the notes that you had prepared at the time of preparation.
  • Maintain your Health: While preparing for the exam, students forget to take care of their health. You can prepare well only if you are healthy, so take nutritious diet, avoid junk foods and eat fresh vegetables and fruits. You can also do yoga and meditation to relief or relax your body. Take a sleep of at least 8 hours a day.

Important Instructions: 

  • The question book in each subject may have different versions.
  • Each question book will have a unique serial number.
  • The candidate must write and shade the question book serial number on the answer sheet in the appropriate boxes and open box respectively.
  • This is very important, as the evaluation will be based on what the candidates specified on the answer sheet.
  • Any mistake committed in this regard may result in the answer sheet being evaluated against a different set of questions and the authorities will not be responsible.

  • Candidates must produce their Hall Tickets at the time of Entrance Test and also at the time of Admission. 
  • Candidates may download the mark sheets from the website within 10 days from the date of publication of results of the entrance test.

TANCET 2018 Counselling Process

TANCET 2018 Counselling Process will be conducted by Anna University for the aspirants of courses like ME/M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan, MCA & MBA. The counselling process will start from 31st July, 2018. TANCET 2018 was conducted in the month of May this year and TANCET 2018 result was declared on 7th June, 2018. Online Registration to Participate in the Counselling

  • If the candidates are eligible to participate in the counselling, then they must register online only. No other mode is available for the registration. They must register on or before 5.00 PM on 15th July, 2018. A log-in account will be created on successful completion of the registration.

Note – There is a common application form for taking admission in Government, Government Aided Engineering and Arts & Science Colleges and for the seats in University Departments/Regional Centres, seats surrendered by the self-Financing Engineering Colleges, Arts & Science Colleges including Stand Alone Institutions under the Unified Single Window Admission System for Indian Nationals.

  • Candidates need to send the respective attachments and authorisation to the printout of the online submission application with DD.
  • Candidates should be sent by post or dropped in a box at the office of the “The Secretary, TN MBA / MCA/M.e/M.tech Admissions, Government College of Technology, Coimbatore 641013” before the last date.
  • Candidates should only use an A4 Size cover and duly affix the printed copy of address label on it.

Online Choice Filling:

  • Now, the candidates will be allowed to exercise their choices of the college & course online. Candidates can select as many choices as they like from the list of seats that are available, in the order of their preference.

Reporting at the nodal center for document verification:

  • After that, candidates will have to complete their registration process and choice filling and report to one of the designated Nodal Centers for the verification of their documents and payment of the Counselling & University registration fee and the locking of their final choices. Post verification of the documents, candidates should have locked their final choices at the designated nodal center.

Seat Allotment at TANCET Participating Institutes

  • According to the choices submitted by candidates, seats will be allotted in order of their rank. The seat allotment result will be declared online and will be published on the official website of Anna University.
  • In case, a candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat, they can wait for the next round of the TANCET 2018 Counselling. But if the candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat, then they should pay the amount for securing the seat allotment.

Reporting to the Allocated College:

  • Candidate should download their final allotment letters and report to the allotted institute as per the schedule. Candidate should pay the academic fee and join the programme.

How to Apply for TANCET 2018

TANCET 2018 Conducting Body

Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) is a state-level examination. The exam is usually conducted in the month of June every year. The Government of Tamil Nadu has authorised Anna University to conduct the exam on its behalf. Anna University is a technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. The online registration for TANCET commonly started in May.

The main university campus is located in Guindy, Chennai. It was named after C N Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 4 September 1978. It became an affiliating university in 2001, absorbing all engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. In 2007, it was split into six constituent universities namely Chennai (Campus), Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, and Tirunelveli.
