Topics for NIFT exam preparation

The NIFT Entrance Exam is conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology. It is one of the most popular design entrance exams in India which is primarily conducted for admission to all National Institutes of Fashion Technology (NIFTs). A student can easily crack the exam if he/ she goes through the important topics and follows a sturdy preparation plan. A creative bent of mind and analytical mindset is required to qualify the entrance exam of NIFT. Students can get admission in Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech), Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M.), Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech), and Master of Design (M.Des) after qualifying the NIFT exam.

NIFT CAT (Creative Ability Test) Important Topics

The CAT section of the NIFT Entrance Exam deals with innovation and creativity. Students are judged on their use of colours and imaginative skills. They are expected to draw creatively and are measured on the parameters of observation power, designing ability, creativity in thought development and discernment ability. Students are required to go through important topics mentioned below for the NIFT-CAT entrance exam.

GAT is a two-hour examination that is conducted after the CAT. Below mentioned are the topics that can be covered to do well in the GAT section.

NIFT GAT (General Ability Test) Important Topics

The GAT section for B.Des has questions of communication ability, English comprehension, quantitative ability, analytical ability, general knowledge, and current affairs. For B.F.Tech. the case study also needs to be covered. Here is an elaborated description of the important topics for NIFT entrance exam GAT section-

  • Communication Ability- This section checks how proficient a candidate is in the English language. The important topics for the entrance exam of NIFT in this section are:

    • Words with Corresponding Meaning
  • English Comprehension- English comprehension section scans a candidate’s basic understanding of the English language. A passage is given in this section and various questions are asked from that passage.

  • Quantitative Ability- In this section, the questions test the quantitative ability of a student. It covers important topics such as:

  • Analytical Ability- This section deals with reasoning questions that judge a student’s lateral and logical thinking ability.     • Human Relationships

  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs- The section deals with multiple important topics for NIFT entrance exam that need to be covered. A candidate is expected to be aware of the fashion designers, fashion weeks, Indian retail industry, overview of textile designers in India, significant colours, books and authors, pair designer and list of beauty queens.

  • Case Study- This section has decision making and situational analysis case studies. It tests the decision-making ability of a candidate.

Situation-Based Test Important Topics

Once a candidate has passed both, CAT and GAT written exam, a practical test is given to the candidate in the nearby NIFT examination centres. The test is of 2 hours and is conducted practically. Students are provided with a situation based question and they are provided with materials to answer that. The candidate has to build a 3D model with the materials provided and later on he/ she also has to write an explanation of that model.

Students who want to make a career in design need to have brilliant creativity in order to crack the entrance exam of NIFT. They ought to go through newspapers, magazines, social media, previous year question papers to stay updated. Also, they need to practice all the aforementioned important topics for the NIFT entrance exam. The weightage of each section is different in the entrance exam of NIFT. CAT and GAT have 50% and 30% weightage each. The NIFT situation test has 20% weightage. Only after qualifying the written examination can a candidate appear for the situation based test. To take admission in Interior Design or Graphic Design course offered by NID, Ahmedabad you are required to appear for a NID Entrance Exam. The application form of the exam is likely to be available from October 2020. If you satisfy the eligibility criteria of NID, then you are eligible to apply for admission to the college.

Dear Student,

No such discount on fee is available for the disabled candidate in NIFT, Delhi, however, you can avail the SARTHAK scholarship offered by the institute. If your parental income is up to Rs. 1.5 Lakhs per annum, you get a 100% fee waiver. If it lies between Rs. 1.5 Lakhs to Rs. 2.5 Lakhs, students will be awarded 75% fee waiver. Also, if the income of the parent is between 2.5 Lakhs to Rs. 4.0 Lakhs, 50% fee concession is offered.
