How Percentile is Calculated in MHT CET?

Step 1: Division of Applicants into Sessions

Applicants are distributed across multiple exam sessions conducted over two days and two shifts per day.

Candidates are randomly assigned to one of four sessions: Day 1 Shift 1 (Session 1), Day 1 Shift 2 (Session 2), Day 2 Shift 1 (Session 3), and Day 2 Shift 2 (Session 4). Each session contains approximately the same number of candidates to maintain balance.

Random and proportional distribution ensures fairness and eliminates advantages or disadvantages caused by exam timing or difficulty variation across shifts.

Scalability of Session Allocation

The model adapts if more exam days or shifts are required.

If the applicant pool is large, additional days or shifts may be introduced. Candidates are then divided proportionally across all sessions to maintain uniform distribution.

This scalability reduces statistical bias and ensures consistency, especially when candidates are spread across different regions of the country.

Step 2: Session-wise Result Preparation

Results for each session are calculated independently before final compilation.

Each candidate receives raw scores in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, along with a Total Raw Score. These raw scores are then converted into percentile scores for each subject and the overall total.

Session-wise evaluation ensures that candidates are compared only with others who appeared in the same session, accounting for slight variations in question difficulty.

Definition of Candidate Scores

Clear notation is used for raw and percentile scores.

Let T1, M1, P1, C1 represent a candidate’s raw scores in Total, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry respectively. Corresponding percentile scores are denoted as T1P, M1P, P1P, C1P.

Standardized notation improves transparency and helps candidates understand how their performance is assessed mathematically.

Calculation of Total Percentile Score

Determines the candidate’s standing in the session based on total marks.

Total Percentile (T1P) is calculated as: 100 × (Number of candidates in the session with total raw score ≤ T1) ÷ (Total number of candidates in the session).

This reflects the percentage of candidates the student has outperformed within that session.

Calculation of Subject-wise Percentiles

Evaluates relative performance in each subject independently.

Mathematics Percentile (M1P), Physics Percentile (P1P), and Chemistry Percentile (C1P) are calculated using the same percentile formula, applied separately to each subject’s raw score.

Subject-wise percentiles help in branch-specific cut-off determination and tie-breaking during admissions.

Step 3: Compilation of MHT CET 2026 Percentile Scores

Percentile scores from all sessions are brought together.

The Total Percentile Scores calculated independently for Sessions 1, 2, 3, and 4 are merged into a single dataset. This consolidated percentile is referred to as the MHT CET Score.

This step ensures comparability across sessions, making the final merit list equitable and standardized.

Final Use of Compiled CET Score

Determines rank and eligibility for admissions.

The compiled CET score is used to prepare the final result and merit list, which later forms the basis for counselling and seat allocation.

A unified score allows fair competition among all candidates, regardless of the session in which they appeared.
