MHT CET 2026 Ranking System

As MHT CET will be conducted in multiple shifts, the scores of candidates have to be normalized and the MHT CET result 2026 will be declared in the form of percentile. Based on the percentile secured by candidates, the MHT CET 2026 merit list will be released by State CET Cell, and all the candidates who will be included in the merit list of MHT CET 2026 will be declared eligible for CAP (Centralized Admission Process). The MHT CET merit list 2026 has percentile and rank allocated to the candidate. Check the table below to understand the ranking system better:

Stage

What Happens

How It Is Calculated / Determined

Raw Score Calculation

After the exam, candidates receive raw marks based on correct answers in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

Each correct answer carries a fixed number of marks as per the exam scheme. There is no negative marking in MHT CET. Raw scores are calculated separately for each subject and as a total.

Session-wise Normalization

Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, raw scores are normalised to ensure fairness.

Candidates are grouped by session. Percentile scores are calculated within each session by comparing a candidate’s score with others in the same shift.

Percentile Score Generation

Percentile scores are calculated for Total marks and individual subjects.

Percentile = 100 × (Number of candidates in the session scoring equal to or less than the candidate ÷ Total candidates in that session). Separate percentiles are calculated for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Total score.

Compilation of CET Percentile

Percentile scores from all sessions are merged.

The session-wise total percentiles are combined to form a unified MHT CET Percentile Score applicable to all candidates.

Merit List Preparation

A centralized merit list is generated using the CET percentile scores.

Candidates are arranged in descending order of their Total Percentile Score. Higher percentile means better rank.

Rank Allocation

Each candidate is assigned an All India Rank (AIR) or State Rank.

Rank 1 is given to the candidate with the highest percentile, followed by Rank 2, Rank 3, and so on. Ties are resolved using subject-wise percentile rules (usually Mathematics first, then Physics, then Chemistry).

Category-wise Ranking

Separate ranks are prepared for reserved categories.

Along with the general merit rank, category-specific ranks (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, etc.) are generated based on reservation norms.

Home State vs Other State Ranking

Candidates are classified based on domicile status.

Home State candidates compete for state quota seats, while Other State candidates are considered for All India or institutional quota seats.

Use of Rank in Counselling (CAP)

Final ranks are used for seat allotment.

During counselling conducted by the Maharashtra CET Cell, candidates fill choices based on rank, category, and seat availability.

Yes, if you’re not taking JEE Main, you can still apply through LPUNEST, which is the entrance test of Lovely Professional University. It’s actually a good option because LPUNEST not only helps in admission but also gives you a chance to get scholarships. The exam is student-friendly and focuses on basic concepts, so it’s manageable with proper preparation.Overall, LPUNEST gives you a smooth pathway to join B.Tech CSE at LPU even without JEE.
