GATE CS 2026: Exam Date, Syllabus, Question Paper, Answer Key, Response Sheet presents key details related to the Computer Science and Information Technology paper. IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE CS 2026 exam on February 8, 2026, in two separate sessions.

The Computer Science paper will be held as CS-1 in the forenoon session from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and CS-2 in the afternoon session from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on the same day. Both sessions follow the same GATE CS syllabus, exam pattern, and marking scheme. Aspirants are allotted either CS-1 or CS-2 automatically via their GATE admit card .

The GATE CS syllabus and question paper have two sections: General Aptitude carrying 15 marks and core subject carrying 85 marks, making a total of 100 marks. The syllabus covers 10 topics such as Engineering Mathematics, Digital Logic, Computer Organisation, Programming and Data Structures, Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Compiler Design, Operating Systems, Databases, and Computer Networks.
The paper has a combination of MCQs, MSQs, and NAT questions, with negative marking applicable only to MCQs. Typically, within a few days after the exam, the GATE CS answer key and response sheet are released to help test takers review their responses and find out their probable GATE results .
Computer Science & Information Technology, being one of the most popular specialisations in GATE, sees around 1.8 lakh exam takers every year. However, of these, only about 27,000-28,000 students manage to qualify, implying high competition among peers. Going by the past years' paper analysis, GATE 2026 CS exam is estimated to have a moderate to difficult level, so you need to have a very good knowledge of the subject topics to be able to pass the exam.

With **GATE score 534 and AIR 2362 (General)**, admission to **top IITs/NITs for Microelectronics** is unlikely. You may get seats in **state universities, private institutes, or less competitive M.Tech colleges**, but **BITS Pilani Microelectronics is very unlikely**.

In most Indian states, just having a BTech degree is not enough to appear for TET or DSC. You usually need a proper teaching course like B.Ed or D.El.Ed along with it.

This isn’t about how “big” or “small” your degree is. It’s about teacher training. A BTech gives you technical knowledge, but it does not train you to teach students in a classroom. That’s why, even if BTech is a higher degree, it is not considered a teaching qualification. States want teachers who are trained specifically for teaching, which is why they insist on B.Ed or D.El.Ed.

Dear Student,

Yes, as an agricultural engineer with an MTech in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, you can apply for many PSU jobs through GATE Civil Engineering. However, it depends on the specific PSU, the post, and whether they accept a Civil Engineering GATE score for agriculture, water, or environmental roles.

Most PSUs require:

  • A valid GATE CE score for civil-related posts.
  • A good All India Rank , since cut-offs for big PSUs like IOCL, BPCL, NTPC, and PGCIL are usually high.

So, if the PSU accepts GATE CE for the post you’re interested in, scoring well in GATE CE …
