IIT Kanpur M.Tech Admission Process through GATE 2023

IIT Kanpur GATE-Based (Non-Sponsored) M.Tech Admission Process: IIT Kanpur primarily accepts GATE scores for admission to M.Tech courses. However, the admission is not solely granted based on GATE score and the candidates must appear for separate written tests and personal interviews conducted at IIT Kanpur. The final admission will be granted only after the assessment of eligible candidates based on GATE score, performance in IIT Kanpur M.Tech written test and personal interview.

IIT Kanpur M.Tech Admission Process for IIT B.Tech Graduates: Candidates who possess a B.Tech degree from any Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with an overall CGPA/ CPI of 6.5 and CGPA/ CPI of 8.0 in the last two semesters of the B.Tech course are eligible for the direct admission in the M.Tech course at IIT Kanpur. These candidates are exempted from the requirement of the GATE exam.

IIT Kanpur M.Tech Admission Process for External Students: Candidates working in R & D establishments with necessary library and research facilities are eligible for direct admission in M.Tech course without GATE requirement. Such a candidate must be sponsored by his/her employer and must have been in employment with the sponsoring organization for at least 2 years at the time of admission.

IIT Kanpur Part-Time M.Tech Admission Process: IIT Kanpur offers Part-Time M.Tech admission to professionally employed candidates such as teachers, scientists, and working engineers. The requirement of GATE will be waived off only to those candidates who have at least two years of work experience. These students will have to give an undertaking endorsed by their employers that they will be attending all classes. IIT Kanpur may conduct a separate written exam and personal interview for candidates who do not have a valid GATE score.

IIT Kanpur M.Tech Admission Process for Sponsored Candidates: Candidates, who have 2 years of work experience and are sponsored by his / her employer for pursuing the M.Tech course, can take admission in the IIT Kanpur M.Tech course without the GATE requirement. The sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to provide full salary to the candidate and to relieve him/her to pursue the programme for its full duration.

General Eligibility Criteria for M.Tech Courses:

• B.Tech/ B.E/ M.Sc degree with a minimum of 50% of marks is the major requirement for the M.Tech admission at IIT Kanpur.

• Candidates aspiring for M.Tech Biological Sciences and Bioengineering courses must have MBBS/ B.Pharma degree to be eligible for admission. Candidates with an MBBS degree are exempted from the requirement of GATE.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT B.Tech Graduates: IIT B.Tech graduates must have an overall CPI/ CGPA of 6.5 and 8.0 in the last 2 semesters of the B.Tech course are eligible for direct M.Tech admission at IIT Kanpur. These candidates need not appear for the GATE exam.

IIT Kanpur M.Tech Admission Application Process 2023

IIT Kanpur M.Tech aspirants must register on two websites for admission. The details regarding the IIT Kanpur M.Tech application process is elaborated below: -

Registration for M.Tech Course through IIT Kanpur Website: -

• IIT Kanpur begins the online application process for the M.Tech course in the second week of March every year.

• Candidates can visit the official website of IIT Kanpur to submit an online application for M.Tech admission.

• Click on ‘Academics’ followed by ‘PG Programmes’, ‘M. Tech Admissions’

• The online application portal will open and the candidates must fill out the application.

• After submitting the personal details on the application form, upload the prescribed documents and pay the application fee of Rs. 400 (Rs. 200 for reserved categories).

• After the application fee payment, take the printout of the application form for future reference. The candidates need not send the hard copy of the application form to IIT Kanpur by post.

Registration for M.Tech Course through COAP Portal: Along with registration on the official website of IIT Kanpur, the candidates must also register on the official GATE COAP website. Through GATE COAP, candidates can accept the admission offer, check written test and interview results etc. The candidates must pay a separate registration fee on the GATE COAP portal.
