NIT MCA Admission 2020 - The admission process for MCA course in NITs has started. For Master of Computer Application (MCA) admission in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), an all-India basis entrance examination is conducted which goes by the name of NIMCET or National Institute of Technology Master of Computer Application Common Entrance Test that is conducted by one of the participating NITs on a rotational basis every year. NIMCET 2020 was conducted by the National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT-R). In this article, we are going to discuss all those things which are related to MCA admissions in the NITs such as the important dates, entrance exam, eligibility criteria, application process, admission process, fee etc.

Entrance Exam for NIT MCA Admission
As mentioned earlier, MCA admissions in the NITs is done through a national-level entrance exam called NIMCET. NIMCET is conducted every year by one of the 11 participating NITs and this year, the responsibility to conduct the entrance exam for MCA admission at NITs has been given to the National Institute of Technology Raipur. NIMCET exam is an online exam which is conducted for a maximum mark of 480 comprising of a total of 120 questions.
Based on the performance of the candidates in the NIT MCA admission test, i.e NIMCET, a counselling process is conducted through which the final allocation of seats in the MCA programme offered at various NITs in the country is done. Once a candidate is allocated a seat, he/she has to pay a Seat Allotment Fee of INR 10,000/- and visit the NIT and confirm the seat. A candidate, who is not satisfied with the seat allocated to him/her may opt for upgradation of the seat. Once a candidate finalises his/her seat, he/she has to pay the admission fee amount and then start attending the regular MCA classes at NITs as and when it begins.
Eligibility Criteria to Apply for MCA Admission at NITs
Those who wish to pursue the prestigious MCA programme from one of the NITs must fulfil the following eligibility criteria which are also the eligibility criteria for NIMCET -
NIT MCA admission applicants should be an Indian citizen
Applicants should have a BIT/BCA/B.Sc/B.Sc (Hons) degree from a recognized University and must have studied either Statistics or Mathematics (or a similar relevant subject) at the qualifying level
B.E/B. Tech degree holders from a recognised University are also eligible to apply for NIT MCA admission test, i.e NIMCET
The minimum marks that an applicant should have secured in their qualifying exam is 60% or 6.5 CGPA (for Gen/OBC) or 55% aggregate (6.0 CGPA for SC/ST)
NIT MCA Application Form 2020
The application form link to apply for admission into the MCA programme of NITs expired on the 11th of June 2020. Every year, the conducting National Institute of Technology (NIT) releases the application form for NIT MCA admissions. Prior to releasing the application forms for NIT MCA admissions, the institute also updates the eligibility criteria and only those applicants who fulfil the eligibility criteria, their application requests are accepted.
The entire NIT MCA admissions application process is divided into 4 steps. The NIT MCA admission application form fee is 2,500/- rupees for Gen/OBC category candidates and 1,250/- rupees for the SC/ST candidates. The NIMCET application form fee can only be paid via the available online payment modes. The NIT MCA admission application form fee is non-refundable.
NIT MCA Admission Process 2020
The NIT MCA admission process begins with the declaration of the NIMCET exam results and with the beginning of the counselling process. A centralized counselling process is conducted for the purpose of allocation of seats to those candidates who have been shortlisted on the basis of their NIMCET scores.
Step 1 - Registration
The shortlisted candidates have to register themselves for the NIMCET counselling process first to initiate the MCA admission process at the participating NITs.
Step 2 - Choice Filling and Locking
The candidates have to use their NIMCET candidate credentials to lock their college choices and the same must be done before the last date is over to avoid automatic choice-filling.
Step 3 - Allocation of Seats
The institutes will offer their vacant MCA seats on the basis of the candidates’ performance in the NIT MCA entrance exam (i.e NIMCET) and their preference of institutes. The seat allotment process will be done in three rounds.
Step 4 - Final Admissions
Once the candidates are allocated seats of their preference, they will have to visit the particular NIT along with the seat allotment letter to confirm their admission. The candidates have to deposit the admission fee to confirm their admission in the seat allocated to them.
Seat Surrendering
Those candidates who have not been allocated seats as per their preference can opt to participate in the subsequent counselling round. However, they have to surrender their previously allocated seats to be considered for the next counselling round. An application must be put forth to the concerned officials regarding the surrendering of seats.
Vacant Seat Allocation
Those seats which remain vacant after the conclusion of a counselling round will be put under the vacant seat category which will be up for grab in the vacant seat allocation round. Those who had surrendered their seats previously or were not allocated seats during the previous counselling round will be considered in this round. After the candidates are offered seats, they will be required to visit the particular NIT along with their seat allocation letter and submit the admission fee to confirm their admission.
