Scholarship

In IIT Bhilai, several scholarships, fellowships and various forms of assistantships are provided for the deserving students so that they can concentrate on their studies well. Mentioned below is the detailed information regarding the scholarships offered by IIT Bhilai:

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of two factors: Means and Merit. The means criteria are based on the combined parental income of the student. The merit criteria is based on the CML rank in JEE for the first semester B.Tech students and is based on the last CGPA obtained for students in other semesters.

The students who are awarded this scholarship will get full tuition fee waiver as well as pocket money of Rs. 1000/- per month for 10 months.

Eligibility Criteria for availing the scholarship

MERIT: All students of the first semester, who are admitted to the BTech program of IIT Bhilai. For other semesters, the student should have a CGPA of 6.0 or above and should have no FR grade in the previous regular semester.

MEANS: Combined parental income shall not exceed Rs. 5 Lakhs for General Category students and Rs. 6 Lakhs in case of OBC students.

The student should belong to General or OBC category.

The student should not have been penalized because of unfair means or indiscipline by IIT Bhilai. A student is eligible for applying for the scholarship ONLY if he/she is eligible under ALL the eligibility criteria.

Selection Criteria for availing the scholarship

The selection shall be made on the basis of per-batch where a batch is defined as the year of admission in B.Tech program at IIT Bhilai.

The eligible students will be arranged in the ascending order of their combined parental income and then the students will be awarded the scholarship starting from the beginning, as per the number of scholarships available.

For a tie based on the means criteria, the student will be ranked based on merit criteria (ascending order of CML rank in JEE for the 1st-semester students or descending order of CGPA for others).

Institute SC/ST Scholarship

Under this, all the undergraduate students belonging to SC and ST categories are included.

CGPA of 7.0 is required to avail this scholarship.

Parental income not to exceed Rs. 4.5 Lakhs per annum.

Free messing and boarding (to the extent collected) and pocket money of Rs. 250/- p.m. is given.

Institute Free Studentship Scholarship:

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of two factors- Means and Merit.

The Merit criteria is based on the CML rank in JEE for the first semester B.Tech students and is based on the last CGPA and grades obtained for students in other semesters.

The Means criteria are based on the combined parental income of the student.

The students who are awarded this scholarship will get a full tuition fee waiver.

Institute Fellowship to Postgraduate Students

PhD students who are offered fellowship by the institute are paid fellowship for 3 years and likely to continue for another year with a positive recommendation from the department.

Non-sponsored M.Tech students are paid fellowship for a maximum of 21 months by the institute provided they have valid GATE score.

Note: The students shall not be on Institute Fellowship in a semester if they are not resident in the campus in that semester. All students who are offered Institute Fellowship by the institute are expected to devote 8 hours per week towards academic and administrative work (other than the research and course-work) assigned to them.

Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

  • General and OBC students only (include M.Sc students)
  • 25% of the students are proposed for grant of awards
  • The other economically backward students (whose family income is between Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh per annum) who avail 2/3rd remission of the tuition fee will be eligible for 1/3rd reimbursement of tuition fee per semester + pocket money of Rs. 1000/- per month.
  • Parental income not to exceed Rs. 5 Lakhs for Gen Students and Rs. 6 Lakhs for OBC Students
  • CGPA of 6.0 is followed.
