India is surrounded by water bodies on 3 sides of its geography, which makes sea travel a prevalent practice. The Indian Merchant Navy consists of passenger transport ships, cargo carriers, ore carriers, and specialised ships. Considering these, the sea-going vessels have to be navigated by highly trained professionals. In an age of increasing quality education, the work of these trained professionals becomes even more important. BP Marine Academy facilitates high-quality maritime education and aims to overcome all challenges faced by working professionals at the sea. The BP Marine Academy, Navi Mumbai was established on 5th December 1997 with the purpose of bridging the gap between the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required in marine organisations compared to the existing knowledge, skills, and attitudes that the seafarers have.
The strict imposition of the rules and regulations on the sea farers by various marine organisations like the Flag State Administration, IMO, etc., requires the latter to be very well trained in order to achieve their goals successfully. This is the exact purpose that BP Marine Academy courses help in serving by creating a training center that aims at enhancing the knowledge, skills and the attitude of all the sea farers. The center inhabits state of the art learning methods and teaching aids along with practical demonstration equipments that can successfully meet the latest requirements of training.
