SASTRA University Campus

Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy or the SASTRA University campus which is located in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu boasts of excellent and impressive infrastructure. SASTRA campus is spread over an area of 232 acres and has a population of more than 10,000 students and over 700 teaching faculty. As the prime objective of SASTRA University is to focus on providing the best education and learning opportunities to its students, it ensures that the campus facilities aid them in their professional growth.

SASTRA Deemed University believes that if students are equipped with good facilities, their overall learning and growth can be enhanced. In order to keep up with that belief, SASTRA University has a central library named “Saraswati Sadan” that attracts an average of over 600 students a day. It is about 47,000 sq ft and has a modern study area, audio-visual rooms, internet and reprographic facilities at SASTRA University campus. The library contains more than 1 lakh books and has additionally subscribed to a variety of engineering and management journals and magazines that can benefit the students of the university. The library also has access to other online journal databases like Science Direct, ACM, IEEE, ASME, Springer journals, etc. Online resources like Manupatra, Lexis-Nexis, Scopus and MathSciNet provide access to bibliographic information from over 26,000 journals published worldwide.

Additionally, SASTRA Deemed University campus facilities include a hospital with medical experts and specialized doctors who help students with timely health check-ups.  Facilities for sports and entertainment are also provided by the university for day scholars as well as hostellers. The campus has an indoor stadium – MARUTI that is equipped with billiards tables, a basketball court, a badminton court, a table tennis table and other gymnasium facilities. The university also takes care of certain transportation facilities to ensure the safety and travel expenses of students. SASTRA University also has 24-hour WiFi connectivity. A large number of students also take a keen part in the cultural programmes organised by the SASTRA University at regular intervals. This not only helps the students to take a break from academic commitments but also in their holistic development. SASTRA University Hostel & Fees Structure

There are 9 boys' hostel and 6 girls' hostels providing accommodation to over 4000 boys and 2400 girls. 
The hostels are of the following types:
1. Single Room / 2-in-1 / 4-in1 (Bath Attached).
2. Single Room / 2-in-1 / 3-in-1 / 4-in-1
The hostels provide a salubrious ambience and a feel-good climate and are equipped with all amenities for living, dining and recreation that makes each inmate feel at home. They provide a right atmosphere for intellectual stimulation and balanced growth.

SASTRA has always believed in catering to the palate and providing wholesome and balanced nutrition in a hygienic environment. A completely balanced vegetarian diet is served in all hostels equipped with steam-cooking facilities. There is also North Indian Cuisine in addition to the South Indian culinary delights.
370 Mbps Wi-Fi is available to all the inmates of the hostels.

A well furnished guest house with adquate number of A/C and non-A/C rooms is available for visitors on prior request and subject to availability.

SASTRA University Students Activities & Clubs

NSS Club - National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with a primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and the Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country. From its inception, more than 37.5 million students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers. 

NCC Organisation - In view of the changing socio-economic environment, an exercise was undertaken by the Ministry of Defence to make the aims of the National Cadet Corps in tune with the aspirations of the youth. As part of the recommendations of an Evaluation Committee, the following aims have since been adopted by the National Cadet Corps:-

  • To develop character, comradeship, ideals of service and capacity for leadership in the youth of the country.
  • To stimulate interest in the defence of the country, by providing service training to youth.
  • To build up a reserve to enable the Armed Forces to expand rapidly in a national emergency.

Training Camps - NCC organises training camps for students in rural and urban areas. As per policy, 50% of the enrolled strength is to take part in such Annual Camps. During these camps, the students get an opportunity to live and work with other students in a hostel environment. Students who have not got opportunities for community living, enjoy these camps the most.

There are a total of 12 courses offered by the SASTRA University to interested candidates at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. These courses are offered in the stream of engineering, commerce, science, law, management, computer applications and more.
