Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur is among one of the thirty NITs in the country. It got deemed to be university status (under UGC) in June 2002. Earlier, VNIT Nagpur was known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE) and was set up in 1960. It was one of the 12 institutes chosen by the MHRD, Government of India for the BRICS Network University on behalf of India. VNIT Nagpur has also entered a partnership with IIT Bombay and College of Engineering in Pune for a research and development project in Biomedical engineering and technology centre incubation. The cost of this is roughly 39.4 crore.
Initially, VNIT Nagpur was functional from the camp office in the premises of Government Polytechnic, Sadar Nagpur and an area of roughly 214 acres were allotted for the institute to operate from. VNIT is known for the quality of education it imparts and it is ranked 5th among all NITs. It is also one of the 10 best engineering institutes as per the Times Engineering Survey and is the 18th top engineering college in India as per Outlook magazine. VNIT Nagpur has three departments-Basic Science, Engineering and Architecture and Planning. The institute has bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in architecture, engineering, and technology.
VNIT Nagpur has more than 30 specialized laboratories and research centres. The engineering undergraduate programs at VNIT Nagpur have a duration of four-years and architecture program has a duration of five years. Roughly 798 students are admitted to the master’s program every year. The institute has also adopted nine villages in Nagpur, Amravati, and Jalgaon under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. The objective of this was to bring about a change at the grassroots level in rural areas through innovations in technology.

Yes, you can take lateral entry admission to Computer Science Engineering at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology with your Diploma percentage. However, you also need to appear for the Karnataka DCET entrance exam which is a common entrance test conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). After qualifying for the DCET exam, you will be eligible for direct admission to 2nd year of Computer Science Engineering.
