Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur was established in 1960. On June 26, 2002, the Government of India granted the institute deemed to be university status (under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956)). VNIT Nagpur was previously known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE) and was set up in 1960. It was one of the 12 institutes chosen by the MHRD, Government of India for the BRICS Network University on behalf of India. VNIT Nagpur has been ranked 12th in the architecture and planning category, 41st in the engineering category, and 82nd in the overall category in the NIRF Ranking List 2023 whereas in 2024 NIRF ranking it was ranked 39 in the engineering category. In 2022, its NIRF Ranking was 8th in the architecture category, 32nd in the engineering category and 68th in the overall category. It has also been ranked in the 1201-1500 band in the overall category in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025.

VNIT Nagpur is well-known for imparting quality education and is ranked fifth among all NITs. Aspiring candidates seeking admission to the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology must register online at their official website.

Online Process:

• Visit the official website of the institute.
• There are two application forms: one for general information and one for specific course information.
• Fill out the application form by selecting the exam category first, followed by general information.
• Upload a passport-sized photo of yourself and a scanned image of your signature.
• Upload a JPEG-formatted scanned image of the left thumb impression with the file size.
• After you've finished this section, click 'Next' to fill out the qualification information.
• Before creating a login id and password, submit the application form.
• Then, click the 'Apply for Course' button and carefully fill out the second application form by selecting the course you want to enrol in.
• Fill out the application form and submit it.
• Use a debit/credit card or net banking to pay the application fee online.
• Using the same procedure, the applicant can view the applied course and apply for multiple courses simultaneously.

Offline Process:

• Application forms are available for download from the VNIT Nagpur official website.
• Candidates must pay for their application form online using a debit/credit card or net banking.
• The duly completed form should be sent to the following address, along with xerox copies of the certificates (self-attested), photographs, and a copy of the SBI receipt

JAM- The Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) is an all-India level online entrance exam held every year on a rotational basis by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the Ministry of education, Government of India. IIT JAM is held to provide candidates with admission to MSc and other postgraduate courses offered by IITs and integrated PhD courses offered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. • The MRSI Nagpur Chapter and the VNIT Nagpur Institute hosted a working model competition titled "Innovative Idea in Science for Societal Application (IISSA-2021)."
• The Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, VNIT Nagpur, and ICCS hosted the 9th edition of the Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society Symposium, ICCSS-2021, in virtual mode as part of VNIT's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

International Women's Day was observed at VNIT Nagpur. The VNIT Nagpur Women's Cell hosted the event. On this day, female housekeepers, security personnel, and horticultural staff were recognised. VNIT Director Dr P.M. Padole recognised these women for their tireless efforts in keeping the VNIT campus neat, clean, secure, and beautiful during the pandemic.
