NTA JEE Main Result 2026 Normalisation Process

Since the JEE Main exam is held in two sessions, the level of difficulty varies, and authorities use the process of normalisation to address this. The normalised JEE Main 2026 scores released by NTA show the percentage of candidates whose scores are equal to or lower than the highest in that session. The formula for calculating NTA scores is as follows:

(100 x the number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) divided by the total number of candidates who appeared in that session

Candidates should be aware that the normalised NTA score does not correspond to the percentage of marks obtained in the JEE Main examination.

JEE Main Result 2026 Percentile Calculation Subject-wise

The NTA computes the JEE Main percentile separately for each subject (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) as well as in the combined format using the normalisation formula shown below.

Percentile

Calculation method

Total percentile

100 x (the number of candidates in the session with raw scores equal to or less than the T1 score) divided by the total number of candidates who appeared in the JEE Main session

Physics percentile

100 x (the number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than a P1 in Physics) divided by the total number of candidates who appeared in the session

Chemistry percentile

100 x (the number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than a C1 in Chemistry) divided by the total number of candidates who appeared in the session

JEE Main 2026 Rank List

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announces the JEE Main rank list as well as the NTA JEE Main result on its official website. The top JEE scores from the two sessions will be used by NTA to compile the JEE Main all-India rank list for 2026. By logging in using their login credentials on the official website, candidates will be able to get their JEE Main Rank List 2026 by name. After the official publication of the JEE Main merit list 2026 , candidates will be able to access it via jeemain.nta.nic.in. The JEE Main rank card will include information such as the candidate's name, roll number, and overall rank.

How JEE Main rank is determined?

The NTA calculates the JEE Main ranks of all the candidates participating in the examination. The rank of each candidate is calculated by the following formula -

  • The score is transformed into a percentile, which means the candidate's raw marks are converted into a percentile.

  • This is accomplished by computing the session's highest scores. The highest marks are given a score of 100. The remainder of the candidates' grades are adjusted correspondingly.

  • The percentile score is calculated to seven decimal places, allowing each contender to have a unique ranking. This is done to ensure that there are no ties among the candidates.

Difference between JEE Main percentage and percentile score 2026

Many candidates are puzzled by the JEE Main percentage and percentile and mistake them for the same thing, even though they are completely different aspects. The JEE Main percentage is determined by absolute marking, whereas the percentile is determined by relative marking.

  • Calculating JEE Main Percentage: (100 x Candidate Marks) / Total Marks

  • Calculating JEE Main Percentile 2026: (100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks lower than the candidate's) / Total number of candidates in that session.

How to calculate marks or rank for JEE Main Exam 2026?

Candidates can calculate their marks using the JEE Main 2026 answer key released by the NTA. Candidates can calculate their estimated marks by matching their answers with the official NTA JEE Main answer key 2026 session 1. Moreover, candidates should follow the marking scheme given by the NTA to calculate the score and get an idea about their estimated score or marks.

JEE Main Result 2026 Marking Scheme

The JEE Main exam 2026 includes both multiple-choice questions (MCQ) and numerical-type questions. The marking scheme for the multiple-choice questions (MCQ) and numerical-type questions in the JEE Main 2026 exam as per the NTA is as follows.

JEE Main Result 2026: Tie-breaking policy

There is a possibility that in the JEE Main exam 2026, two or more candidates score the same marks. In such cases, NTA will determine the scores following the tie-breaking policy, which goes in descending order.

  1. NTA score in Mathematics, followed by

  2. NTA score in Physics, followed by

  3. NTA score in Chemistry, followed by

  4. Candidate with less proportion of several attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by

  5. Candidate with less proportion of several attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the Test, followed by

  6. Candidate with less proportion of some attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test, followed by

JEE Main Result 2026: Cutoff Marks

The JEE Main cutoff list is based on the percentile declared by NTA once the scores have been prepared. Because the highest score is 100, the remaining candidates will be sorted correspondingly. A list will be created after producing a list in descending order of percentile. The highest percentile will be ranked first, while the lowest percentile will be ranked last. It is called the JEE Main session 1 rank list 2026.

It is then cut down to a restricted group of candidates based on the number of seats available in the course. This is called the JEE Main cutoff 2026 marks. Different categories (such as General, OBC, SC, ST) have different percentile cutoffs due to the varying number of candidates and their performance in each category.

Factors Determining JEE Main 2026 Cutoff

The JEE Main cutoff 2026 marks are affected by the following factors-

  • Availability of seat

  • Number of candidates participating

  • Past trends

  • Candidate’s overall performance

  • Paper’s difficulty level

What after the JEE Main Result 2026?

After the release of the JEE Main session 1 and session 2 result 2026, candidates can appear for JEE Advanced or JoSAA counselling. Candidates securing the JEE Main Passing Marks 2026 will have the following two options-

  1. Opt for JEE Advanced Exam

The JEE Main exam is also a gateway to the JEE Advanced 2026 . To be eligible for JEE Advanced, candidates need to be among the top 2,50,000 rank holders in JEE Mains 2026.

  1. Counselling Session with JoSAA

After the JEE Mains results 2026 are announced, candidates who have qualified can participate in the counselling process for admission to various NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and other engineering colleges in India. The JEE Main counselling process 2026 involves seat allocation, document verification, and final admission to the chosen institute. Candidates need to stay updated with the JoSAA counselling 2026 schedule and participate in the process to secure admission to their preferred colleges and courses. Additionally, those who may not have qualified in the JEE Main exam can explore alternative options such as state-level engineering entrance exams or other career paths.

JEE Main Result 2026: Re-Evaluation/Re-Checking

Candidates cannot challenge the JEE Main exam result 2026. The JEE Main 2026 result released by the NTA will be final and no further queries will be entertained. The NTA will not provide any option for re-evaluation or re-checking of the result. However, the authorities provide the option of challenging the answer key.

Yes, LPU is offering diploma programs in fields like Engineering (Polytechnic), Design, Management, Hotel Management, and other skill-based courses.
