Candidates must secure a rank or cut-off, which is above the closing rank, in order to get admission in the NITs, IIITs, IIITM & IIITDM and other Central Government/State Government Funded Institutions. Having a lower rank than the cut-off of JEE Main 2021 (for a particular programme/institute) means the candidate will not be eligible for admission.

The JEE Main cut-off 2021 will be released category-wise, branch-wise and institution-wise. The cut-offs will vary from candidate to candidate as per the institution/course/category. Candidates must also know that the Cut-Off of JEE Main 2021 will be categorised under two different types. These two distinctive categories are Qualifying Cut-Off and Admission Cut-Off. It is important for candidates to know about these two cut-offs as it will help them in understanding the whole cut-off system in a clear and better way, highlighting the usage of these two cut-offs.

Qualifying Cut–Off: National Testing Agency (NTA) announces and publishes this cut-off to start a new session. Mainly the qualifying cut-off list is used to extract the candidates eligible for JEE Advance. Those who want to sit for the JEE Advanced will have to mark their place in this list and achieve the qualifying marks. Candidates will be able to check this cut-off list on the official website of NTA and can download it for future references. It is very important for aspirants to know that the Qualifying Cut-Off list is not the list that can be used for the purpose of admission in the JEE Main Participating Colleges.

Admission Cut–Off: Admission Cut-Off is the list published by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to help candidates to take admission in the participating colleges of JEE Main 2021. The candidates who successfully get their names placed in this cut-off list will become eligible to proceed with the admission process of any of the selected participating colleges of JEE Main 2021. Candidates can find the Admission Cut-Off list on the official website of JoSAA. They can download the list and keep it for future references. The list will also help candidates to see the colleges with which they proceed further in the admission process. In order to make a remarkable place in any of these list candidates need to clear the JEE Main 2021 with explicit marks.

For now, candidates may go through cut-offs of previous years to get an idea about the previous trends. Through the JEE Main cut-offs of previous years, the candidates will also understand what score they would need to qualify the entrance examination.
