Placement Procedure

K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) believes in providing world class education to its students, steeped in Indian ethos and value system. The Institute which started in 1981, offers Ph.D. Programme in management and several Post Graduate/Masters programmes in management affiliated to University of Mumbai and/or approved by AICTE.

Students are selected through a rigorous selection process based on the universally accepted tests like CAT /XAT/CMAT for PGDM/PGDM (International Business) / PGDM (Financial Services)/PGDM (Communication) and PGDM (Retail Management) and MH-CET for MMS and pass through a process of Written Communication Test, Group Discussion including extempore presentation, intensive Personal Interview by a team of two panelists. The Institute gives adequate weightage to the Past Academic Record and relevant Work Experience of students.

The batch which is available for placement has students from all parts of India and with varied backgrounds and a fair mix of genders.

Selected students are taken through a two week induction programme, followed by rigorous 6 trimesters. Students undertake on an average 7 subjects in each trimester. They are exposed to practicals of business through field projects and a compulsory summer internship of 8-10 weeks. Case studies, guest lectures, field projects (individual and team based) are an important part of the curriculum.

Sudents are exposed to international faculty and students from international B-schools through exchange programmes, joint projects and guest lectures by international academics and professionals.

Students are given leadership skills through empowerment by motivating them to organize various events for the Institute and other similar organizations.

Students are evaluated on a continuous basis and mid-term and end-term examinations constitute only 50 % of the total evaluation process.

Students are also encouraged to take part in various extra and co-curricular activities including socially relevant activities for community development through various cells like social cell, e-cell, consultancy cell and forums for functional areas like Marketing, Finance and Operations, International Business etc. A large number of students take part in national and international competitions that fosters a spirit of competitiveness in them.

Students available for placement have been taken through a very rigorous and practical programme and are ready to contribute to the corporate world.

Over the years, placement record of the Institute has been exemplary, with a record of excellent placements. Placements at the Institute are handled by the students, thus providing students an opportunity for corporate interactions and hone their skills in 'Planning and Organizing'.
