What to Expect From CLAT 2023?

Debanjalee Sen
Debanjalee SenUpdated On: September 13, 2022 04:28 pm IST | CLAT

CLAT 2023 exam date is December 18, 2022 and the admit card will be out a few days before the test. This article covers all the major details and information about CLAT 2023 which law aspirants must go through.

CLAT 2023 Exam Details

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is one of the most popular and widely taken law entrance exams of India. More than 70,000 law aspirants register for CLAT every year in order to enrol in some of the best law schools in India. CLAT is conducted by the CLAT Consortium for shortlisting candidates primarily for the National Law Universities (NLUs) but there are innumerable other law colleges that accept CLAT for their law admissions.

The exam date of CLAT 2023 has been announced. CLAT for admission to the academic session of 2023-24 has been scheduled to December 18, 2022. The last date for application submission is November 13, 2022 and students must be thorough with their CLAT preparation. This article provides a comprehensive explanation of what to expect from CLAT 2023. The candidates who have applied for CLAT 2023 can find all the details pertaining to the exam along with some major areas of concern.

Will CLAT 2023 get Cancelled?

The exam date of CLAT 2022 was re-scheduled for the last academic session and was not cancelled. Hence, students must note that the CLAT 2023 will be held per the official dates announced.

How will Law College Admissions take place if CLAT 2023 gets Cancelled?

It is quite unlikely that CLAT 2023 will be cancelled. However, it is wise as well as advisable for the students to be vigilant and have a Plan B. One of the primary concerns of law aspirants this year is how law admissions will take place if CLAT 2023 is cancelled.

In case CLAT 2023 gets cancelled, other law colleges and universities will adopt different methods to admit students. There are many private law universities that accept CLAT for admissions. These universities will either conduct their own entrance exam or shortlist students on the basis of merit obtained in the qualifying degree. Apart from that, there are several law colleges conducting admissions on the basis of class 12 marks. The law entrance exams of  NLSAT 2023LSAT India, SLAT, KLEE, etc. are also scheduled to be carried out soon, therefore, some law colleges might also accept these exams for their selection process.

It is assumed that if CLAT 2023 were to be cancelled, the private law colleges accepting CLAT scores will either organise their entrance test through the online medium or shortlist students after a round of personal interview. In any case, the law admissions of India 2023 will not be hampered even if the exam were to be scrapped for this year.

Will CLAT 2023 be Postponed like CLAT 2022?

Now since the CLAT 2023 exam date has been announced, it is unlikely that the exam will be postponed. Considering that last year several entrance exams were conducted either through the mode of remote-proctored from home, pen-paper based or via a centre-based exam system, it is believed that CLAT 2023 might also change its exam mode if the situation demands.

However, for now, the exam is scheduled to be held offline and all the CLAT exam centres will adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols as prescribed by the government. Complete details regarding the safety protocols will be released by the Consortium later. The Consortium has also advised all candidates to get vaccinated.

They must be thorough with their CLAT preparation while also working on some backup options.

Are there any Changes / Modifications in the CLAT 2023 Application Process?

In terms of the CLAT 2023 online registration process, nothing has changed from the previous year. The application process is available from August 8, 2022, and will end on November 13, 2022.

Students can take the Common Law Admission Test if they are at least 17 years old and have a 12th-grade grade point average (GPA) of at least 45%.

They can submit their application using the website.

Any Changes in the Number of Attempts in CLAT 2023?

According to the notification, candidates may take the CLAT as many times as they choose. To take the CLAT, one must, however, meet the CLAT Eligibility Criteria with regards to minimum age, educational background, and nationality.

Those who are eligible will be allowed to attempt the Common Law Admission Test in 2023.

Will CLAT 2023 be Conducted in Remote Proctored Mode?

No, CLAT 2023 will be conducted in offline mode. The number of total applicants of CLAT 2023 is way too high to organise the exam in the RPT mode, CLAT also does not have foolproof software that can ensure the smooth and fair completion of the examination. It will require a lot to arrange an AI-enabled (Artificial Intelligence) test which applicants can give from their homes.

Apart from that, the Consortium also has to keep in mind that it is not possible for all candidates to have the necessary facilities for giving a remote proctored test like laptops/ desktops, internet access, power back up, etc. In 2020, some students had submitted a petition to the Delhi High Court for organising CLAT in the RPT mode but the exam was held in an online CBT mode. Therefore, it can be concluded with significant certainty that CLAT 2023 will not be conducted in remote proctored mode.

Will there be changes in the CLAT 2023 Exam Pattern?
