IIM Shortlist 2026: If you are planning to pursue your MBA degree from one of the prestigious IIMs in India, you are required to ensure that to make the IIM shortlist 2026. The IIM Common Admission Process (CAP) 2026 involves mainly 3 stages: the CAT 2025 exam , the Written Ability Test (WAT), and the Personal Interviews. Based on your overall performance in all these rounds, all the IIMs release their separate shortlist featuring the names of the qualified students for admission to the respective institutes. For the 2026-28 session, the CAT 2026 exam will be held on November 30, 2026. The WAT is expected to be held in January. Key Factors for IIM Shortlisting Criteria 2026

The IIM shortlist criteria 2026 put more of an emphasis on student quality, which isn't only determined by CAT exam results. As a result, the "student profile" is crucial for increasing diversity in IIM Classrooms. As a result, the IIM Shortlist 2026 criteria primarily focus on the following 3 Parameters:

• Each IIM shortlist 2026 criteria outlines the minimum required percentile score for both the overall and each section of the CAT exam, which ranges from 85 to 95 percentile.

• Excellent academic standing up to graduation and individuals with backgrounds other than engineering are given preference in the IIMs shortlist criterion. To encourage gender diversity in IIM classrooms, female applicants are given preference as well.

• A candidate is given a good weightage of between 5% and 10% in the IIM shortlisting criteria if they have between 2 and 3 years of experience working in an executive or supervisory cadre. This makes them eligible for the GD/PI/WAT rounds of IIM admissions.

Eligibility Criteria

Admission to the IIMs is open to those who meet the requirements to take the CAT. They must, however, fulfil a few more prerequisites to be selected. Check out the following IIM qualifying requirements:

• The fundamental requirements for admission to IIMs are graduation with at least 50% of total marks or an equivalent CGPA (45% for SC, ST, and PWD/DA categories).

• Applicants who are waiting for their results or who are in their last year of a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualifying exam may also apply.

• To be considered for an IIM interview, candidates must fulfil the requirements for the IIM shortlist/qualifying cutoff.

• For applicants to be eligible for an interview call and to take part in WAT/GD-PI, they have to meet the minimum IIM call cut-off.

CAT Composite Score

The total score (out of 100) that a candidate receives during the final selection process is referred to as the composite score, and it is determined by taking into account the CAT scores, 10th board scores, 12th board scores, Bachelor's degree scores, weighted work experience, and performance in the WAT and PI rounds.

IIM Admission Process 2026

To get admission to IIMs, candidates have to go through several stages, which are elaborated below.

Stage 1: Shortlisting Based on CAT Score

After the CAT result is announced, candidates need to apply for the WAT/GD-PI round at each IIM by following the official notification on its website. Candidates who meet the shortlist cut-off must log in with their CAT IDs to submit their name and CAT score.

Stage 2: Appearing for WAT/GD-PI

From February to April, a writing ability test, group discussion, and personal interview rounds are conducted at designated cities for shortlisted candidates who applied for WAT/GD-PI. These candidates were shortlisted based on their CAT scores and academic record. Selected candidates are sent interview letters to participate in the WAT-GD-PI round.

Stage 3: Calculation of Composite Score and Final Selection

Lastly, a composite score is calculated for each candidate based on eight different parameters. These parameters and their definitions are listed below.

WAT/GD-PI	The performance of candidates in WAT/GD-PI is assessed, and marks are allotted accordingly.
Academic Diversity	To provide equal representation to students from different streams, non-engineering candidates are given extra points. Each campus provides varying points for academic diversity.
Gender Diversity	To ensure that both genders are equally represented, IIMs award additional points to female and transgender applicants during their selection process. The number of points awarded for gender diversity may vary depending on the campus.
Work Experience	Candidates with prior work experience can earn extra points in the range of 1 to 5. The number of points awarded depends on the campus, with each campus having its specific range.

IIM CAP 2026

To facilitate admissions to IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Sambalpur, and IIM Sirmaur in 2026, IIM Udaipur will be coordinating the Common Admission Process (CAP) 2026. A common shortlist for these 9 IIMs that are CAP participants is expected to be made public in January 2026. The CAP procedure runs from the middle of February to the middle of March. Important Points to Remember About IIM CAP 2026

• All IIMs that are taking part in CAP 2026 will release their shortlisting criteria for both CAP and their own selection round.
• After CAP 2026 is complete, lower cut-offs are declared for their own selection process, and higher cut-offs are announced for the CAP round. The candidates who do not receive a call for CAP 2026 will receive a separate message from these IIMs based on their respective shortlist criteria stated in their admission policy, according to these IIMs' clarification.
• The shortlists are likely to be released individually by IIM Shillong, IIM Rohtak, IIM Amritsar, IIM Nagpur, and IIM Visakhapatnam because they usually do not take part in the IIM Common Admission Process (CAP). IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Nagpur, and IIM Shillong will all reveal their Phase-1 shortlists as well as their shortlists for the final selection phase.
• Before considering a candidate's application for final admission, all 7 Baby IIMs—whether they are taking part in CAP 2026 or holding autonomous PI rounds—will require candidates to confirm and submit their application by the deadline. The publishing dates for all of the most recent IIM results 2026 are in March and April.
• IIM Rohtak, which in the past took part in the CAP round, will not be taking part in the new IIM CAP 2026 and will instead be running its own online admissions procedure.
