Bharathidasan University Campus

The Bharathidasan University Palkalaiperur campus [main campus] is spread across 500 acres of land along the Tiruchirappalli-Pudukkottai highway (NH 210). The Main Palkalaiperur Campus houses the majority of the teaching and research schools and departments and specialized research centres. The campus has eight Hostels with contemporary cooking and eating facilities to accommodate outstation students. In addition, the main campus houses the University's Central Library, Administrative Building, Sports Complex, Bank, Post Office, Canteen, Health Center, Staff Quarters, Guest House, and other facilities.

The Bharathidasan University Khajamalai campus also has a city campus in Khajamalai, which houses the Departments of Economics, Education Technology, Social Work, Women Studies, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Lifelong Learning, the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (IECD), the Bharathidasan University Technology Park (BUTP), Department of Remote Sensing, and Academic Staff College, as well as a students' hostel.

BIM represents the University-Industrial partnership with BHEL to establish the country's first Management Institute within an industrial powerhouse. In terms of academic inputs and constant industry exposure, BIM and BHEL have a unique symbiotic connection. The former President of India, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, chose BIM as a suitable training site for DRDO scientists because of its excellence over the years. As a result, BIM has become one of the country's leading business schools. The library and sports facilities at the institution are excellent.

  • Administrative Block: The spacious administrative building on the main campus accommodates the Vice-Chancellor's Secretariat, the offices of the Registrar, the Controller of Examinations, the Finance Officer, and other university administrative offices. The Centre for Distance Education is located in a specified area of a spacious building on the Palkalaiperur campus. The Vice-Chancellor's chamber is annexed with a well-furnished Committee Hall with all necessary provisions. Also, the Public Relations Office and the Personal Assistant office to the Vice-Chancellor are annexed with the secretariat. The Vice-Chancellor's secretariat is equipped with modern communication facilities. The university has an Air-conditioned auditorium with a capacity of nearly 200 and a Convocation Hall.
  • The Departments and Research Centres: All the departments and research centres are endowed with good infrastructure facilities. Most departments have an adequate number of classrooms, faculty rooms, office rooms, seminar halls, libraries, reading room facilities, state of the art laboratories with sophisticated equipment. In addition, computational facilities for study and research are available in all the science departments. 
  • University Library: The Bharathidasan University Library is separately located in a well-architectured multi-storeyed building on the main campus and is well furnished with all resources, including e-library resources. The library has separate Halls for housing books, journals, magazines, and reference books in addition to a big and well-furnished reading hall. In terms of learning resources, the library has a good collection of books and e-books and subscribes to a number of journals and audio-video cassettes. The library has INFLIBNET and DELNET facilities. The UGC Infonet facility helps access more than 10,000 e-resources, including thousands of e-journals.

Through the Bharathidasan University digital library, the students and faculty members can access more than 5,000 back volumes and 7,000 electronic books. The number of books, journals, and periodicals is updated every year. In addition, the library provides reprographic facilities for the benefit of students and research scholars. The library is kept open throughout the year [except on five national holidays] from 8 am to 8 pm. The library provides an open access system for the users, including students, research scholars, and teaching faculty. In addition to the above central facility, the departments have their own libraries.

  • Informatics Centre: In addition to the computers available in the Departments and Research Centres, the University Informatics Centre houses a large number of computers with networking and internet connectivity for the benefit of students, research scholars, and faculty members. There are more than 1000 computers available for students and faculties on the Main Campus alone. These computers are updated periodically, and more computers are added regularly. 
  • Maintenance of Facilities: The university's Estate Maintenance Wing is responsible for the upkeep of all physical infrastructure, including buildings, roads, lawns, gardens, electricity, water fittings, water resources, generators, etc. In addition, this university's informatics centre manages computer networking, the internet, the website, all servers, databases, and the digital library, among other things. Through the Informatics Centre's Campus-wide network (Optical Fiber Backbone), Internet connectivity has been provided to all of the departments. Wireless technology has also been used to provide Internet access to the University's Hostels, Staff Quarters, Vice-Residence, Chancellor's Guest House, Administrative Building, and all departments.

A campus-wide network using Optical Fibre Cable and Structured Cabling has recently been built in the University's Khajamalai Campus buildings. The university maintains a Publication Division that handles the printing, publishing, and distribution of faculty publications. The division also publishes the university's quarterly newsletter (BARD NEWS). Students, teachers, and non-teaching staff have appropriate transportation facilities. University buses run regularly between the city and the Palkalaiperur campus in the morning and evening. Deep wells provide the majority of the water on campus. All departments and dormitories at the university have access to safe drinking water.

  • Solar Power Plant for Green Energy: A grid-interactive 500 kWp Solar PV Power Plant at Bharathidasan University's Palkalaiperur campus was erected and commissioned at a total cost of INR 4.85 crore as part of the university's green initiatives. The university's 500 kWp Ground Mounted Grid-Interactive solar park generates 2300 units (kwh) of electricity per day and 69,000 units per month on average. The monthly energy bill is reduced by Rs 5.5 lakhs thanks to the solar program on campus. The project is partially financed (Rs 4.00 crore) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, as part of RUSA. On the Khajamalai campus, there is also a solar power facility.
