The admission process for B.Tech courses in Punjab begins with online fee payment for counselling. There are multiple methods for securing B.Tech admission in Punjab. Entrance Exams Accepted by Punjab Engineering Colleges 2019

Punjab engineering colleges accept JEE Main score/ rank for B.Tech admissions. All the candidates aiming for B.Tech admission in Punjab must note that he/ she must have a valid rank in the JEE Main. Each engineering college in Punjab will have a cutoff rank for B.Tech admissions, and the candidates can get admission based on their rank. The candidates must apply with JEE Main roll number for centralised admission process in Punjab for B.Tech admissions.

Apart from JEE Main score, candidates can apply for B.Tech admission in Punjab on 10+2 basis. The admission authority conducts separate B.Tech admission process for JEE Main rank holders and 10+2 basis applicants.

85% of B.Tech seats in Punjab are reserved for candidates within the state while 15% of B.Tech seats are applicable to all candidates on the all-India basis. B.Tech admissions eligibility criteria in Punjab is as follows –

Domicile Rules

  • 85% of B.Tech seats available under state quota will be applicable for the residents of Punjab state.
  • Candidates competing for B.Tech admission in Punjab under state quota must have passed Class 12 from any recognised school located in Punjab.
  • Candidates applying under state quota must submit Residence Certificate.
  • Children of central government employees working in Punjab (for two years) are eligible for B.Tech admission under state quota.

Academic Requirements

  • B.Tech aspirants of Punjab must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, as the major subjects are eligible for admission.
  • The applicants must have at least 45-50% of marks in Class 12 to secure admission.
  • Candidates can apply for B.Tech admission in Punjab based on JEE Main merit/ 10+2 merit.

Punjab B.Tech Admission Reservation Policy 2019

Before going through the selection and counselling process for B.Tech admission in Punjab, it is advisable to check the admission reservation policy of Punjab government for B.Tech admissions.

Punjab B.Tech Admission Process 2019

I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University conducts the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for Punjab B.Tech admissions. Candidates with a valid JEE Main score can apply for B.Tech admission in Punjab under state quota or all-India quota.

State Quota B.Tech Admissions: 85% of B.Tech seats in engineering colleges across Punjab are applicable to state quota. Engineering colleges will have a specific cutoff or closing rank for B.Tech admissions under state quota.

Punjab B.Tech Counselling and Seat Allotment Process 2019

I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University conducts the Centralised Admission/ Counselling Process for B.Tech courses in Punjab. The counselling process involves different stages, and all the details are elaborated below.

Online Fee Deposition for Counselling Process: In order to participate in the Centralised Online Counselling for B.Tech admission in Punjab, every candidate has to pay Rs. 2,000 as counselling fee. The counselling fee of Rs. 2,000 is applicable to Round 1 & 2. Follow the below steps to pay the counselling fee for Punjab B.Tech admissions –

  • Visit the official website, i.e., Punjab Technical University (PTU) admissions.
  • On the official website, click on the button that indicates ‘Pay Online Counselling Fee’
  • A registration form will be displayed on a new page
  • Select the Stream (Engineering/ B.Tech – JEE Main Basis)
  • Enter your JEE Main Roll Number
  • Enter your Name, Father’s Name, Date of Birth, E-Mail ID, Roll Number and Verification Code.
  • After entering the above details, click on the button that indicates ‘Submit’
  • The candidates will receive One Time Password (OTP) on their mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP and click on ‘Proceed’ button
  • You will be directed to the counselling fee payment section now.
  • The payment can be done by using Credit Card or Debit Card or Internet Banking.
  • The candidates will receive a confirmation message on their mobile or e-mail after the fee payment.
  • After fee payment, the candidates must take the printout of fee receipt.

Online Registration for Counselling Process:

Candidates who have deposited the counselling fee of Rs. 2,000 are only eligible to register for the counselling process. Follow the steps below to register for Centralised Online Counselling for Punjab B.Tech admissions –

New Registration: -

  • Visit the official website, i.e., Punjab Technical University (PTU) admissions.
  • On the official website, click on the button that indicates ‘Apply for B.Tech’ to take part in centralised online counselling
  • A new page will flash on the screen
  • Select ‘B.Tech & B.Tech Fee Waiver – JEE Main Basis’ option from drop-down menu.
  • After selecting the stream or course, click on the button ‘Go’ followed by ‘Proceed’ button on the subsequent page for ‘New Registration’.
  • The New Registration Form will be displayed on the screen
  • Fill the details in the new registration form such as JEE Main Roll Number, JEE Main Rank, Candidate Name, Date of Birth and Green Number.
  • After entering the above details, click on the button ‘Submit’.

Main Registration: -

  • After New Registration, Main Registration Form will be displayed on the screen.
  • Select the eligibility criteria carefully. If you are a resident of Punjab as per eligibility criteria, select Punjab State 85% Quota for Candidate of Punjab.
  • Non-Punjab residents must select ‘All India Category’.
  • Select the Gender – Male/ Female
  • Select your Main Category (Caste)
  • Select your preference for Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme – Yes/ No.
  • Select Rural/ Urban Status. If students wish to keep Rural Area as his/ her main category for IKGPTU, then he/she should select the main category as General and under Rural/Urban status.
  • For availing Sikh Minority Benefit, the candidates must select Sikh Minority Status
  • Enter the qualifying marks or percentage of Class 12
  • Enter the Annual Income of the Family
  • Finally, enter the Login ID (JEE Main Roll Number) and Password (should be created by the candidate)
  • After entering all the above details, click on the button ‘Submit’.
  • A login page will be displayed on the screen.
  • Enter the Login ID and Password to take the printout of the main registration form.
  • Preserve the printout of the main registration form for future reference.

Online Choice Filling:

The next stage in the centralised online counselling process is ‘Online Choice Filling’. Follow the steps below for online choice filling –

  • Before filling the choices, it is advisable to check the closing ranks of participating institutes. The list will be available on the official website.
  • After checking the closing ranks, click on Student Login tab.
  • The list of colleges and courses will be displayed on the screen now.
  • The candidates can select the colleges and courses by clicking on the ‘+’ button.
  • Candidates are free to choose a maximum number of choices, as there is no limit on the number of choices to be chosen by the candidates.
  • After filling the choices, it is advisable to check once
  • Finally, click on ‘Save and Exit’ option to save the filled choices
  • Your choices will be displayed on the screen now.
  • Logout from the official website
  • Only those candidates who take part in the online choice filling will be considered for seat allotment process.

Seat Allotment Results:

Candidates will be informed through SMS regarding their seat allotment status. The seat allotment results will be released on the official website, and the candidates must log in to download the seat allotment letter. Take the printout of seat allotment letter and proceed to the allotted college for reporting, first-year B.Tech fee payment and seat confirmation.

If the candidates do not get a seat in the first round, they can wait for the second round. The candidates can also upgrade the seat after the first round (if necessary).

Reporting: After taking the printout of seat allotment letter, the candidates must report to the allotted college with original and xerox copies of certificates. After certificate verification at the allotted college, the candidates must pay the first-year B.Tech fee within the specified date to confirm the admission. The candidates must note that they should only submit xerox copies of original documents or certificates.

The counselling and seat allotment procedure ends with reporting. The colleges will inform the candidates about the date for the commencement of classes.

Punjab B.Tech Selection Process 2019

The selection process for B.Tech admissions in Punjab will be based on JEE Main rank. The participating colleges will come up with opening and closing ranks for B.Tech courses, and the admissions are based on the cutoff ranks (Please refer to the Punjab B.Tech admission procedure section for more details).

Documents Required for B.Tech Admission in Punjab

The candidates must carry the following original and xerox copies of certificates/ documents at the time of reporting –

  • JEE Main Admit Card
  • JEE Main Rank Card
  • Class 12 Certificate
  • Class 10 Certificate
  • Residence/ Domicile Certificate
  • Category Certificate (If required)
  • Income Certificate (only for TFW applicants)
  • Seat Allotment Letter

The candidates must note that they should not submit the original documents/ certificates to the college, and you must make sure that the college returns original certificates after verification.
