Kamala Nehru College Academic & Industry Collaborations

Economics Department of the College : The year started with Kaleidoscope collaborating with the Economics Department of the College to conduct an Inter-College economics-based quiz on the Department’s annual fest, ‘Ecophoria’. This was followed by our annual quiz which is conducted by the society every year at ‘Ullas’, the annual fest of KNC. The society then collaborated with the English Department of the college to conduct an inter-college ‘Harry Potter Quiz’ at the department’s annual fest ‘Litluminous’ and gave out various hand-made accessories from the ‘Harry Potter World’ as prizes.

With the start of the new academic year in August 2015, auditions were conducted in the college to select the best of the best for KNC’s Quiz society. The Auditions were conducted in two rounds: the first being a written quiz of 15-20 questions and those who cleared the first one advanced to the second-round which was the question-making round. Following the auditions, as per tradition, an intra-college quiz: ‘Travel and Food’ was conducted by Kaleidoscope Freshers which saw students from various departments of KNC coming together to battle it out in ‘Around the World in 15 Questions’. KNC’s annual Diwali-cum-NGOMela, ‘Adrith’ saw Kaleidoscope conducting an inter-college General-quiz which was a huge success.

Kaleidoscope also represented KNC at various quizzes in and around Delhi, from quizzes at Gargi College, DDU, SRCC, JMC, LSR to quizzes at GGSIPU, NDIM, Amity University, NIFT, etc. Teams from the society won – a ‘Bollywood Quiz’ conducted at Gargi College (DU), Geography Quiz conducted at Kirori Mal College (DU), and secured the finalist position in quizzes conducted at SRCC and Deen Dayal Upadhaya College (University of Delhi).

From next year on, Kaleidoscope hopes to widen its reach even further by organising its own Quiz Fest and keep alive its motto: “Winning quizzes isn’t fun unless you learn something along the way.”

Literary Society : The book club in collaboration with the literary society of Kamala Nehru College also organised a screening of the movie Elizabeth on 17th October 2015 in the Council room; the screening was attended by several interested students proving to be a beneficial experience for them.

The creative writing workshop organised by Deepali Junjappa was a two-day-long workshop held on 29th October and 30th October 2015 which was divided into three segments - fantasy writing, travel writing and screen writing.

The sessions were interactive and involved a lot of writing exercises. There was a brief introduction session followed by a few movie clips explaining the various characteristics of fantasy and fiction. Later, students were divided into groups of two and were made to write a short script for a play which they even acted out. There were two other writing exercises, one of which was an exercise called the ‘T.S. Eliot exercise’ and the other one involved completing a paragraph with famous opening sentences of a book. On the second day of the workshop, students were shown popular blogs and taught blog-writing along with a few tips on travel writing.

KNC Book Club recently organised an interactive and fun session with talented authors, Anjum Hassan and Anil Menon. The students witnessed the authors talking about their new release namely, The Cosmopolitan by Anjum Hassan and Half of What I Say by Anil Menon in great detail. With the authors reading out interesting excerpts from their respective books, the enthusiastic bookworms present there got a first-hand experience at looking in a writer 's mind. The books which focus on important contemporary issues garnered overwhelming response from the audience –making it a fun-filled question-answer session. The event had its closure with a book-signing session by the authors. The whole session proved to be a treat to the book-loving audience.
