The first phase of placements at IIT Guwahati has been a success. The institute saw participation from various IT giants including Microsoft and Oracle. These companies rolled out the highest international packages i.e. USD 136,000 (Rs. 93 lakh) and USD 135,000 (Rs. 92 lakh approx.).
The highest domestic package at the institute was offered by Tower Research. The firm participated in IIT Guwahati placements for the first time and rolled out a package of Rs. 36 lakhs.
The institute reported that 50% of the students who had enrolled for the campus placements were recruited by various reputed firms. Over a thousand students had enrolled at the Centre for Career Development (CCD), IIT Guwahati for the placement.
The institute received 138 offers on the first day of placements. The maximum number of offers were made by Samsung, Microsoft, EXL Services, Goldman Sachs, VMware and Oracle.
Head of CCD, IIT Guwahati, Kaustubha Mohanty, talked about the placement drive and said that the best placement was recorded for B.Tech and B.Des students. The two courses recorded 65 placement.
Mohanty also added that the placements have increased by 10% in the session 2016-17. Close to 200 companies participated in the campus placements of the institute. The second phase of placement is expected to see participation from various PSUs.
Most of the students are enthusiastic about working at PSUs as these organisations offer great salaries along with job security, Mohanty added.
