About BMM

Following in the lines of other journalism and mass communication courses in India, the Bachelor of Mass Media course full form of BMM is a three-year undergraduate course. The 3-year UG course in mass media has been designed to train and equip students with the ability to research, study and creatively present information over different channels of media.

Through the 3-year curriculum of Bachelor of Mass Media, students will be trained to communicate effectively through communication channels like television, radio, newspapers, internet and much more. Moreover, the curriculum will be unique across mass media colleges in India, where students will be able to uniquely instil qualities and expertise in different areas of media. The BMM course in India has been designed to encourage a more creative and innovative approach to mass communication and journalism.

BMM Eligibility Criteria

The students who are willing to pursue BMM courses must fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria for taking admission to different colleges and universities. The eligibility criteria, however, varies from college to college. The students must satisfy certain basic criteria for taking admission to BMM course as mentioned below.

  • The students must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examinations from a recognized board with specialization in any field such as Arts, Humanities, Science and Commerce specialization in any of the areas of Arts, Science and Commerce.
  • The students must score at least 50 per cent marks in 10+2 or equivalent examinations. The minimum percentage requirement also varies from college to college and some colleges take admission even if the minimum percentage is 35%. There are certain colleges that require as good as 60% marks and some colleges and universities even take entrance tests as part of the eligibility criteria.
  • The minimum age limit to enroll for the course is 17 years.

BMM Admission Process

Admissions to the 3-year Bachelor of Mass Media admissions course will be conducted as per the admission policies of individual mass media colleges in India. Each college will offer admissions to aspirants in methods. In India, two methods of admissions are opted by media colleges, viz., Merit-based or Entrance Test-Based.

Based on the admission policies of the media college of the aspirant’s choice, candidates may either be asked to appear for an entrance test, which would most likely be conducted by the college itself. On the other hand, colleges may also offer admissions to the candidates based on merit alone.

Merit-based Bachelor of Mass Media Admissions

  • Colleges will consider the past academic qualifications of the candidate, such as scores obtained in Class 12 Board examination, stream pursued and the relevancy of the subjects to the BMM course.

  • Once the colleges have shortlisted the candidates based on the past academic qualifications, a series of selection processes may be undertaken, which may include a Personal Interview and/or a Group Discussion.

  • Based on their past academic qualification along with their performance in the Personal Interview and the Group Discussion, candidates will provisionally be admitted to the course.

Note: Admissions to any college will be finalised once the candidate has paid the chargeable BMM course fees specified by the college.

Entrance-Based Bachelor of Mass Media Admissions

  • On the stipulated date and time, candidates will be asked to appear for a BMM entrance test, conducted by the college or any competent authority.

  • Once you have cleared the examination, candidates will be asked to appear for another series of selection tests, which may include a Personal Interview and/or a Group Discussion.

  • Colleges will offer provisional admissions to those candidates who have cleared the Entrance test, the personal interview and/or the Group Discussion.

  • Selection to the course will be based on past academic qualification, performance in the entrance exam, personal interview and the group discussion along with other parameters that are defined by the college themselves.

Bachelor of Mass Media Course Fees

Pursuing a course in any one of the journalism and mass communication courses in India is not an expensive venture. A Bachelor of Mass Media course fee that would be incurred by an aspirant might range anywhere between ?20,000 - ?90,000 per year. Depending on the ownership of the college, i.e. Private or Government, the course fee of a Bachelor of Mass Media Course would differ. Private colleges tend to be more expensive than the Government colleges for Mass Media.

  • News Anchor: A news anchor has the responsibility of reading and presenting news stories on radio or television broadcasts. A news anchor must use his presence of mind all the time and should be able to deal with the technical nuances inside a studio. News anchor also decides and selects the quality of the news. They also need to do propr analysis of any running story and interview different guests related o the stories. 
  • Photographer: A photographer is very crucial to the media organization. They use their artistic and aesthetic skills to click the best photograph for their organization. A photographer needs to be technically sound and must be able to operate different types of cameras that are professionally used. A photographer also works in specific area and meet the requirement of their clients  
  • Proofreader: A proofreader is a professional who is responsible for editing a copy.
