Master of Health/Hospital Administration Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the Master of Hospital Administration/ Health Administration are different from one college to other. The general eligibility conditions for MHA course are given below

  • Candidates who have graduated B.Sc with Biology/ Physics/ Chemistry can take up MHA course in India.
  • Candidates who have passed Bachelor’s degree in Science stream can take up MHA course.
  • Some universities or colleges may consider BAMS, BPT, B.Sc Nursing, BHMS, BDS and MBBS graduates for MHA course.
  • Some universities or colleges may consider candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in any stream for MHA course.
  • Candidates who have a degree in paramedical courses can also register for MHA course in India.
  • Therefore, it is the responsibility of the aspirants to check the MHA eligibility of a university or college before applying for admission.

Master of Health/Hospital Administration Admission Process

Across different educational institutions in India, students witness different admissions processes for the 2-year Master of Health/Hospital Administration course. Among these practised admission processes, Entrance-Based admissions and Merit-Based admissions are highly regarded by colleges. Entrance-Based Admission Process

  • Universities and Colleges opt for an entrance-based admission to offer all candidates a level playing field. Here candidates will be required to sit for an entrance test after applying for admission at the respective college.

    • Most colleges will conduct a university-level entrance examination to offer admissions to its courses. Therefore candidates are advised to go through the admission policy of each college offering an MHA course.

  • The overall performance of a candidate in the different parameters such as their eligibility to the course, past academic performance and the performance in the personal interview and/or group discussion will conclude their admission status at the college.

Counselling-Based Selections

  • Common under both entrance-based and merit-based admissions, the candidates will be asked to select their choice of college and course during counselling rounds.

  • Under entrance-based admissions, universities will release merit-lists containing the names of all candidates with their ranks and scores secured in the entrance test.

  • Meanwhile, in merit-based admissions, the universities will release merit-lists containing names of the candidates and their ranks as per their qualifying marks.

  • As per each candidate’s rank or score, the admission panel of individual colleges will call the students as per their merit.

  • Here, candidates will then choose their preferred choice of college and course and wait for a seat to be allocated to them.

  • A prospective student will be allocated a seat based on their ranks/scores in the merit lists, their preferred choice of course and college and the vacancy of seats available in the respective choices.

Note: The steps mentioned above are just a few of the general steps followed across educational institutions in India. Therefore, candidates must ensure that they have gone through the entire admission processes of the respective colleges before applying for admissions.

You can't pursue a Master of Hospital Administration after completing a Bachelor of Hotel Management. You must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Science stream to get eligible for MHA. However, you can pursue master's level courses in hotel management such as Master of Hotel ManagementMaster of Tourism and Hotel ManagementMBA in Hotel Management, and PGD in Hotel Management.
