The postgraduate degree in Anaesthesiology will train and qualify the students in the field of anaesthesiology the processes of delivering anaesthesia to patients under different circumstances. Students admitted under the course will be educated and trained in the different topics for a duration of 3 years.
Through the programme, MD Anaesthesiology students will study the different concepts of Anatomy, Physiology, Physics of Anaesthesiology, along with subjects in Pharmacology and Biotechnology.
Students will be taught the details of the course with the help of seminars, symposiums, case discussions, presentations, and other teaching methodologies, that will enhance the overall knowledge of students in the field. The three-year programme has been designed to incorporate hands-on training in operating different procedures and interpret different situations and investigations.
Moreover, as part of the training process, PG medical students will also be able to teach and train UG students and interns in their respective fields. At the end of a three-year postgraduate degree, the candidates should have a fair understanding of what the community requires.
Students of MD Anaesthesiology will be trained on the different methods of using methods to ease surgeries and other operation theatre procedures for the patient. Along with this, students will also be taught on the processes of monitoring and controlling heart rate, blood pressure, breathing as well as blood flow among other things.
The objectives of MD Anaesthesiology aims to enable the graduates to perform the following tasks with ease and confidence:
Prepare and Perform Anaesthesia while also administer post-surgery care to the patients with the help of pain relief medicines in super-speciality operations.
Perform Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS and ALS) activities and also train the medical and paramedical staff in the same.
Management of patients suffering from intense and acute pain along with those admitted in intensive care units with the help of advanced technologies and equipment.
Participate in Anaesthesia Audits.
Overall, all the training and education in the field will be aimed at offering the students with competencies in the management of information during the pre-surgery evaluation process. Students must also be able to communicate with the patients and their relatives.

All aspirants are required to follow the following MD Anaesthesiology eligibility criteria;
Candidates need a valid MBBS degree from an MCI recognised medical college or institution.
They must have secured a minimum aggregate score of 50% in the qualifying examination.
Admissions will be based on the scores obtained by the aspirants in an entrance test such as;
NEET-PG
AIIMS-PG
JIPMER-PG
Apart from these entrance exams, candidates will be required to appear for the entrance tests that are either accepted by the colleges or conducted by them. Therefore, it is highly advisable to go through the eligibility criteria of the prefered college.
As per the guidelines that have been outlined by the competent authority, aspirants of the course must adhere with the MD Anaesthesiology admission process defined by the college themselves. As mentioned in the eligibility criteria, students are required to have appeared for an entrance exam, which is accepted by the preferred choice of college.
It is important to note that all admissions will be based on the merit calculated on the basis of an entrance exam. Some of the most popular entrance exams conducted for admissions to the MD Anaesthesiology course include NEET-PG, AIIMS-PG and JIPMEr-PG, among many others.
After securing a score in the entrance exam for PG medical courses, the candidates will be asked to sit for the respective counselling session, conducted for the purpose of enrolling candidates to the different courses. However, as per the guidelines, only 50% of the seats are reserved through the counselling process, while the rest of the seats will be filled in as per the admission guidelines of the colleges offering the course.
