About Master of Prosthetics & Orthotics (MPO)

Masters of Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPO) is a postgraduate program that offers theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the rehabilitation of physically handicapped individuals.

Individuals may suffer from abnormalities like malfunction and loss of limbs or any other body part. This loss of body part may have happened because of some accident, or amputation due to medical conditions such as diabetes, cancer etc. Also, an individual may even be born as with a missing body part. These adverse conditions prevent these people from leading a normal life. Hence, prosthetics and orthotics professionals help these individuals to live a normal life by making use of their advanced skills and medical technology.

Prosthesis refers to an artificial limb which acts as a replacement for the missing body part and the professional who deals with them are known as Prosthetists. Whereas, Orthosis refers to a device which gives support to weak limbs. Orthotists are professionals who deal in the manufacturing and fitting of these limbs.

Master of Prosthetics & Orthotics (MPO) Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum Qualification Required: Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from a recognized university and must be registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India.

MPO Admission Process:

  • Admission to the MPO program is on the basis of candidates performance in the entrance exam.
  • The most popular exam for the same is AIIPMR - All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
