About Master of Planning

Master of Planning (M.Plan) is a postgraduate level course that can be completed in two years. The course is offered to help the candidates design, formulate and execute plans for sustainable urban, environmental and technological development. 

The two years programme will lead the student to be awarded with an M.Plan degree. The course is covered under various specialisations like environmental planning, housing, regional planning,  transport planning, urban planning to name a few. In India, there are numerous government and private Colleges/ Institutes that offer M.Plan degree programmes. A set of procedures is followed by an individual institute to complete the admission process for the M.Plan degree programme. The minimum qualification to apply for M.Plan course is a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Master of Planning Eligibility Criteria

Minimum eligibility criteria to be considered for admission in M.Plan courses at various universities is as follows:

  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in relevant areas of studies like Bachelor of Architecture/ Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)/  Bachelor of Planning. Candidates who hold a  postgraduate degree in Geography/  Economics/ Sociology are also considered for admission to some colleges. 
  • Minimum % that a student must hold at an undergraduate level must be 55%. 
  • The candidate must hold a Senior Secondary School Certificate with at least 50%. 

M.Plan Admission Process

The admission process in the Master's of Planning (M.Plan) course may vary from College to College. Here are the guidelines to help you apply for M.Plan course at various colleges in India:

  • Most of the Universities/ Institutes/ Colleges release the online application form for M.Plan admission on specified dates. The candidate must fill in the online application and submit the same by the deadline date. 
  • Applicants who have qualified GATE examinations are considered for admission in most of the Colleges/ Institutes/ Universities. 
  • Some Colleges/ Institutes/ Universities conduct their own aptitude test after the application of the candidate is shortlisted.
