About M. Des in Interior Designing

M.Des in Interior Design is a 2-year Master's Degree Program (M.Des) for candidates to pursue after successfully completing the 12th grade. The course consists of four semesters in which students are taught the art as well as the science of interior decorating residences and buildings, to make them more comfortable, attractive, and useful to human beings. Students are ranked according to the results of their performance in a subsequent round of counseling and in the entrance test. Some institutes also provide this course on a part-time basis.

The course is aimed at individuals who wish to test themselves in the big picture. In the curriculum, classroom lectures, market studies, industry interaction, and projects provide an introduction to space styling and decor, through design conceptualization and its application in the field of interiors. The program is particularly beneficial for candidates seeking to start their own business, whether solo or in collaboration. Students in the interior design master’s program develop an industry-standard realistic visualization of spaces using industry-standard 3D model-making software such as AutoCAD and 3Ds Max.

M. Des in Interior Designing Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who wish to pursue M. Des in Interior Designing must fulfill the mentioned eligibility criteria to get through college admission.

  • Applicants must be having a Bachelor’s Degree in Design with minimum qualifying marks.

  • National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Exam: In the field of interior and design, NIFT is among the best. All undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the NIFT have entrance exams each year. With campuses in 15 cities across India and branches in Delhi, NIFT is among the largest colleges in the country.
  • National Institute of Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT): The NID was among the first institutions in India to offer interior education. The NID DAT Prelims and Mains are required for admission to the Bachelor of Design and Master of Design programs.
  • Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED): The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay offers the CEED to students applying to the Master of Design program in Interior Design. Admission to many colleges requires CEED scores.
  • Indian Institute of Art and Design Entrance Exam (IIAD): The institution offers many interior design courses, including a BA in Interior Design, a MA in Interior Design, as well as a BA and MA in Interior Business Management. For both the UG and PG programs, there is an entrance exam as well as an interview in the studio.
  • Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED): Several UCEED graduates apply to UG courses in design, including Interior Design. 24 colleges are eligible to sit for the entrance exam, which is conducted by IIT Bombay.
  • Pearl Academy Entrance Exam: In the design world, the Pearl Academy is very reputable. The academy offers courses in interior design among its many specializations. A three-part entrance examination is held each year at the academy - in January, April, and June. The academy will conduct interviews with successful candidates following these exams.
