NID DAT 2020 Eligibility Criteria

NID DAT 2020 eligibility criteria are prescribed by the National Institute of Design. The eligibility criteria of NID DAT 2020 varies from course to course at the UG and PG level. It will be mandatory for the applicants to satisfy the eligibility criteria, else the applicants will not be granted admission. If an applicant is not found eligible as per the NID DAT 2020 eligibility norms, their admissions will be cancelled. 

The prescribed eligibility norms of NID DAT 2020 include age criteria, qualifying marks and academic qualification of the candidates. NID DAT 2020 is a national level entrance exam organised by the National Institute of Design for various UG and PG design courses. NID DAT Prelims result will be released on February 19, 2020. To know more about the eligibility criteria, read the following information.

Detailed NID DAT 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must check the eligibility criteria for NID DAT 2020 before filling their respective application forms. 

Nationality: 

  • Indian and foreign national candidates can apply for NID DAT 2020. 

  • Note: The foreign nationals will need to satisfy the rules and regulations of the Admitting Institute(s) related to the foreign students.

Indian Nationals in General Category

The prescribed upper age limit is 20 years on or before 30th June 2020. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.

 

Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category

Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST)

The prescribed upper age limit is 23 years on or before 30th June 2020. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1997 are eligible to apply for admission.

Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category

The prescribed upper age limit is 25 years on or before 30th June 2020. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1995 are eligible to apply for admission.

NID DAT 2020 Educational Qualification for B.Des and GDPD

  • Applicants who have passed class 12th exam from any stream such as Science, Arts, Commerce, etc from any recognised educational board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE are eligible to apply for NID DAT 2020.

Examinations that are considered equivalent to Class 12 are as given below:

  • The final examination of the class 12 system under a central or state board recognised by the AIU (short for Association of Indian Universities).

  • Intermediate or 2-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the AIU (short for Association of Indian Universities).

  • The final year examination of the 2-year course at the Joint Services Wing of the NDA (short for National Defence Academy).

  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.

  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

  • H.S.C. vocational examination.

  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.

  • AICTE approved 3-year full-time Diploma after class 10 offered by  Board of Technical Education or any state in India or Union Territories.

  • Candidates, who have completed their class 12 or equivalent examination from outside India or from a Board or University that is not specified in the above list, must compulsorily submit a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities in this regard. This certificate is required to be submitted at the time of document verification.

Indian Nationals in General Category

The prescribed upper age limit is 30 years on or before 30th June 2020. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1990 are eligible to apply for admission.

Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category

Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST)

The prescribed upper age limit is 33 years on or before 30th June 2020. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1987 are eligible to apply for admission.

Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category

The prescribed upper age limit is 35 years on or before 30th June 2020. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1985 are eligible to apply for admission.

NID DAT 2020 Educational Qualification for M.Des

  • Applicants who have passed/appearing for a bachelor’s degree of minimum 4 years in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system are eligible to apply.

  • Note: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification scheduled on June 2020.

Or 

  • Applicants who have passed/appearing for a bachelor’s degree of minimum 3- years in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system are eligible to apply.

  • Note: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations before July 2019.

Or

  • Applicants holding a 4-year Diploma in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/Architecture under 10+2+4 system.

  • Note: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification scheduled on June 2020.

Note: 

  • In the last year of their graduation degree / full-time diploma programme applicants, whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application form of NID, are also eligible to apply, but subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such a candidate will have to submit their provisional degree certificate at the time of counselling.

  • An Equivalence Certificate must compulsorily be obtained by the candidate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, in case the candidate has obtained the degree/certificate from any University/Board of any foreign country.

FAQs

Is the NATA score considered for the NID DAT entrance test?

No, the NATA score is not considered for the NID DAT entrance test. All applicants will have to undergo the Design Aptitude Test (DAT).

I am doing a 3-year Diploma course after 10th. Am I eligible for the UG course?

Candidates applying for B.Des. should have passed or are appearing for the qualifying examinations under the higher secondary (10+2) from any recognized Board of Education such as AISSCE/IB/ICSE, or equivalents.

What is the selection procedure for undergraduate admissions at NID DAT?

The selection procedure for admissions to Bachelor of Design programmes comprises of two stages- Prelims and Mains. Only those candidates, who are shortlisted after the DAT Prelims, are invited to appear for the second stage.
