About Bachelor of Design (B.Des)
Bachelor of Design (B.Des) is a full-time four-year degree course (spread across eight semesters) which is offered by many top design institutes in India. However, there a few selected design colleges in India that offer B.Des as a five-year course as well.
Candidates who pursue a degree course in Design are trained on the latest trends and technologies that are incorporated at various levels of the designing process. Students are not only provided knowledge through theory classes but are also kept engaged in the classroom through regular workshops, exhibitions of their own work, seminars, fashion shows etc.

Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Eligiblity Criteria
Minimum Qualification Required: 10+2 in any stream from a recognised Board is mandatory to seek admission in B.Des course
Minimum Marks/Percentage Required: Although it varies from institute to institute and college to college, an applicant must have secured at least 45% in +2 in order to seek admission.
B.Des Admission Process:
First and foremost, a candidate will be required to appear for an entrance exam as a preliminary step for admissions.
Entrance Exams for B.Des:
An entrance test for admission to B.Des course is usually conducted by individual institutes. Popular entrance exams for Bachelor of Design courses include the following:
- National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Exam
- All India Entrance Examination for Design (AIEED)
- Design Aptitude Test (DAT)
- National Institute of Design (NID) Exam
- Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED)
Thereafter, one will have to apply individually in different design colleges in India on the basis of your location preference and choice of course.
Based on a candidate’s entrance exam score, they are shortlisted and called for subsequent rounds of admission such as group discussion, personal interview etc. Not to miss, some institutes grant admission solely on the basis of the entrance exam score as well. Hence, the admission process may vary from institute to institute.
