Bachelor of Engineering Admission Process in India

Bachelor of Engineering admissions is done via an entrance exam and on a merit basis. However, most of the engineering colleges of India offer admission via an entrance exam in which you have to sit and score a rank to qualify. Before applying for admission, make sure that you check the eligibility criteria. To know more about how to get admission into BE course, read the important details below.

Step 1: Select the College

To get admission into BE course, first you must shortlist some colleges to which you want to take admission. Visit their official website and check what is their admission process. Do they accept admission through an entrance exam or direct admission? If the college you preferred to study accepts students through direct admission and fill out the application form and wait for the release of the merit list.

Step 2: Check For the Entrance Exam

If the college you wish to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering course accepts admission via entrance exam, then check which entrance exam scores are they accepting. There are various national levels entrance exams such as JEE Main, which is accepted by NITs, and GFTIs. If your goal is IITs, then you have to qualify JEE Main + JEE Advanced exam. Many colleges offer admission based on state-level exams such as WBJEE, AP EAMCET, TS EAMCET, KEAM, and MHT CET. Other university-based entrance exams such as VITEEE, SRMJEEE, BITSAT, UPESEAT, etc

Step 3: Sit for the Entrance Exam

Once you are aware of how your desired Bachelor of Engineering college is accepting admission prepare for it. Qualifying for engineering entrance exams requires dedication and thorough exam preparation. Therefore, you should begin your preparation early, make a proper study plan, and start studying for the exam. Read the important exam day guidelines prescribed by the exam conducting authority and follow them.

Step 4: Attend Counselling and Seat Allotment

Once you have appeared in the entrance exam, wait for the release of the merit list. If your name appears on the merit list it indicates that now you are eligible for counselling and seat allotment. Sometimes these counselling processes are conducted by the exam conducting authority and sometimes by the respective college. Based on counselling and seat allotment, you will be allotted a seat in the BE engineering college.

Step 4: Visit College Campus

After the college is chosen, you will have to visit the campus of the respective college to conduct the admission formalities

Bachelor of Engineering Merit-Based Admission

There is several engineering colleges in India like Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, Chennai, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, etc that offers admission to students based on their Class 12th marks. NRI and management quota seats are also available at such colleges. Yet, only 25-30% of seats are designated for such admissions.

To take admission into BE course via merits, candidates must wait for the release of the application form. Once the application window for BE admissions is open candidates must complete the registration process, provide details about their Class 12th marks, and upload supporting documents. The college will contact you to schedule a counselling session. During the counselling, the institution will check the documents and certificates you provided with your application. After receiving the letter of confirmation, you can pay the course fees to finish the admissions process. Also, some universities offering merit-based BE admission ask for a donation fee at the time of application.

BE Lateral Entry Admissions

If you want to have a Diploma in Engineering you can apply for BE Lateral Entry. Through this, you will be admitted directly into the third semester of the BE programme, i.e. the second year. BE lateral entry admissions are mostly based on an entrance exam. State education authorities administer these admissions examinations, known as LEETs, on an annual basis.

Candidates for BE lateral entrance must have finished their bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering with a minimum aggregate of 45%. Candidates who fall into the reserved category will be spared from paying the application fee by 5%. Those with a DVoc (Diploma in Vocation) in relevant subjects are also encouraged to apply. There is no upper age limit for taking the LEET tests.

FAQs about B.E

What is the bachelor of engineering qualifications?

To qualify for BE, you need to score at least 50% marks in class 10+2 from a recognized institution comprising Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

What is BE full form?

BE full form is Bachelor of Engineering, which is an undergraduate degree programme with an overall duration of four years that is further divided into eight semesters. As part of an engineering degree programme, students gain practical and theoretical knowledge of engineering components. This course offers a variety of specialisations, including mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, and electrical engineering.

Is BE and BTech same in India?

No, BE and BTech is not the same in India. An engineering degree is called a BE, whereas a technology degree is called a BTech. In terms of knowledge, BE is more oriented towards knowledge, while BTech is more oriented toward skills. BTech curriculums are consequently updated as skills change in response to industrial needs.

Does BE and BTech have the same value?

Yes, BE and BTech have the same value. Universities that provided engineering degrees alongside other degrees referred to them as BEs (Bachelor of Engineering), while institutions intended only for engineering studies referred to their degrees as B Techs (Bachelor of Technology). No degree, not even a BE or B Tech, has more value than the other.
