Electronics and Communications Engineering Course Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who wish to pursue a degree in B. Tech ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineering) must fulfil certain eligibility criteria in order to get eligible for the course. Though the eligibility criteria for admission to B. Tech ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineering) differs from college to college, there are certain minimum eligibility criteria which the candidates must fulfil for admission.

The eligibility criteria required for admission to B. Tech ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineering) are given below:

  • The candidates must have passed 12th or an equivalent degree from a recognised institute/board.

  • The candidate must have opted for Mathematics and Physics as the major subjects in class 12th along with one of the optional subjects as Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology.

  • The candidate must have acquired a minimum aggregate of 60% (55% for the reserved candidates) in the qualifying examination. 

  • The candidates who are appearing for the final exam or waiting for the final result can also apply for admission to B. Tech ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineering) course.

B Tech ECE Lateral Entry Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who wish to get lateral entry admission to B.Tech ECE must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • The candidate must have passed a 3-year Diploma course in ECE or equivalent stream from a recognized board. Most of the colleges accept full-time Diploma courses as eligibility.
  • Only the candidates who have completed a Diploma in ECE/ CSE (Computer Science Engineering)/ EE (Electrical and Electronics Engineering)/ ETM (Electronics & Telematics Engineering)/ IT (Information Technology) can take lateral entry admission to B.Tech ECE.
  • The candidate must have passed a Diploma in Engineering with a minimum aggregate of 50%-60%.

Electronics and Communications Engineering Course Fees

The course fee for B. Tech ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineering) depends on various factors such as the type of the institute,  the popularity/ ranking of the institute, and the merit/ scholarship earned by the student. For instance, the student having higher marks in the entrance exam will be provided with a higher scholarship, accounting for a lower course fee as compared to students with direct admission. On the other hand, government-based institutes will have much lower fees as compared to private institutes. On average, the course fee for B. Tech ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineering) program ranges somewhere between INR 50k to 1 lakh.

B Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering Admission Process

While some college offers admission to B Tech ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineering) program based on merit obtained by the student in JEE Main, some of the colleges also conduct their own entrance exam for testing the eligibility of students for admission. There are several state-level entrance exams as well and the state-level engineering institutions accept those scores for admission purposes. Based on the merit obtained by the student in the qualifying exam or an entrance exam, the shortlisted candidates are called for the university level test in which their proficiency in terms of 12th level Science, Mathematics Concept, Aptitude and Reasoning are evaluated. Based on the performance of the student in the entrance exam, the qualified candidates are further called for the personal interview round conducted by the colleges. Based on the overall marks obtained by the student in the entrance exam and the interview round, the eligible candidates are offered admission to the program.
