NTSE 2020 Selection Process

NTSE 2020 Selection Process is a two-stage process. The first stage is a state-level examination and the second stage is a national-level exam. The selection for NTSE Stage 1 is done by Union Territories and States through a written test. Candidates who qualify in stage 1 become eligible to appear in stage 2 of the examination. Stage 2 of NTSE is conducted by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). 

Stage 2 of the exam is scheduled to take place on May 10, 2020. National Talent Search Examination is a national-level scholarship test that aims at searching for talented students and awarding them with scholarships. 2000 students are given scholarships every year. Students from all over the country apply for the scholarship. The exam has centers in every State and Union Territory of the country. 

The scholarship is valid up to Ph.D. level if the pursues streams like Humanities, Languages, Sciences, Commerce, Social Sciences and Vocational Courses. For the ones who opting professional courses in Engineering, Technology, Medicine, Law and Management will be getting a scholarship up to second-degree level. Steps of NTSE 2020 Selection Process

Candidates who will qualify both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of NTSE 2020 will be awarded a scholarship of Rs.1250 every month for Class-XI to XII and Rs.2000 every month for Undergraduate and Post-graduate courses. The selection process of NTSE 2020 involves the following steps:

1. Candidates must first register themselves for the National Talent Search Examination.

2. They must then appear for Stage 1 of NTSE.

3. After the result declaration of Stage 1, candidates will be considered for Stage 2 examination.

4. Qualified candidates will then appear for Stage 2 of the examination.

5. Once Stage 2 result is released, a merit list will be prepared.

6. This merit list is prepared on the basis of the scores of Stage 1 and Stage 2.

7. Finally, 2000 students are selected by NCERT to award with the scholarships.

8. 15% of the total scholarships are reserved for SC candidates, 3% for Physically Handicapped candidates and 7.5% for candidates belonging to ST category.

Stage 1 of NTSE Selection Process

Stage 1 of the NTSE will be conducted in Meghalaya, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar and Nagaland on November 2, 2019 and in all the other States and Union Territories of India on November 3, 2019. This stage is conducted by the respective States and Union Territoriex. NCERT allots centers in each State/UT for the first stage.

The first stage of NTSE comprises two papers. Paper 1 is the Mental Ability Test (MAT) that carries 100 multiple-choice questions. Each question is of one mark and the time duration of the paper is 120 minutes. Paper 2 is the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) that also carries 100 multiple-choice questions. Every question carries one mark which makes it a total of 100 marks paper. The time duration of this paper is also 120 minutes. 

Stage 2 of NTSE Selection Process

Stage 2 of NTSE is scheduled to be conducted on May 10, 2020. Candidates belonging to a particular State or Union Territory shall be allotted with a test centre in the same State or in the State selected by the test takers. This stage is conducted by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) itself. Only the candidates who qualify in the first stage are allowed to sit in stage 2 of the examination. 

The second stage of NTSE comprises two papers. The first paper is called the Mental Ability Test (MAT). This paper contains 100 questions each carrying one mark. All the questions in this paper are multiple-choice questions. Candidates are required to finish the paper within 120 minutes. The total marks for this paper are 100. The second paper is called the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Just like paper 1, this paper also contains 100 questions and each one of them is a multiple-choice question. The paper is of  100 marks and needs to be completed within 120 minutes. 

NTSE 2020 Final Selection

Final selection of NTSE 2020 depends upon the merit list prepared by NCERT. After the declaration of stage 2 result, a final merit list is prepared on the basis of the marks obtained by candidates in stage 1 and stage 2.The merit list will be final and no further correspondence regarding rechecking will be entertained. The checking of the sheets is computerised hence, is very efficient. For complete transparency, the OMR sheets of qualified students are also released along with the result. Finally, 2000 scholarships are given to the qualified candidates and the search for talented students completes.

NTSE Scholarships 2020

NTSE scholarships 2020 will be awarded to those students studying in social sciences, sciences, languages, humanities, vocational studies, commerce and fine arts will be entitled to a scholarship up to Ph.D level. Candidates pursuing professional courses in fields of engineering, medicine, management & law and technology will be eligible to receive the second-degree level scholarship. The candidates, though, have to fulfil the NTSE scholarship 2019 eligibility criteria that have been mentioned in details in the following section.

Eligibility Criteria for NTSE Scholarships 2020

As mentioned above, the candidates who wish to avail the NTSE 2020 scholarships have to fulfil the NTSE scholarships 2020 eligibility criteria. Given below are some eligibility criteria for NTSE scholarships 2020:

• Candidates who get into the approved courses

• Has good conduct (Certified by the Head of Institution/College and continue to study as a regular student)

• Is not absent sans proper leave

• Takes up whole-time basis studies

• Does not take up paid jobs

Important Points Regarding the NTSE Scholarships 2020

The following pointers regarding the NTSE scholarships 2020 is a must-know for all the candidates who want to avail any of the scholarship schemes offered by NTSE:

Candidates receiving scholarships from other sources on a regular basis have to choose from both the scholarships. The NTS scholarship for such candidates will be discontinued for a period of 12 months and will only be resumed if the candidate approaches the NCERT, post fulfilling the other terms and conditions. 

• All the students will be required to submit an undertaking stating denial of receipt of any awards or scholarships from any other institutions. The undertaking must be submitted by the students every year.

• Students will only be eligible to receive NTS scholarships if they are unemployed. A certificate stating the same shall be submitted by the students

• Students pursuing any course from abroad will not receive any kind of scholarships

• Claim Bills can be submitted by the students any time during their course of study. Claim Bills for each year/class have to be submitted separately

• Those students will not receive any scholarship if they leave their course of study within 30 days of registration
