XAT 2024 Syllabus

XAT Syllabus 2024 is divided into five major sections, namely Quantitative Ability, Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, General Knowledge, and Essay Writing. XAT 2024 entrance examination will be conducted in the first week of January 2024, from 2 PM to 5:30 PM. 

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2024 syllabus includes all the topics that management aspirants must cover to prepare for the exam. Though XLRI Jamshedpur, which is the conducting authority of the entrance does not prescribe any official XAT syllabus. The topics which have been provided below by us are an estimation based on the question paper and the exam paper of XAT 2024.

We have also provided the sub-topics which fall under these portions in the section below. If the candidates are to ace the entrance, they should pay equal heed to prepare all the topics which have been incorporated into the syllabus. Avoiding any of the topics might lead to a bad score and in turn not let the aspirants achieve their dreams. 

Candidates appearing in the XAT entrance should be aware of the XAT 2024 syllabus. XAT is a national-level entrance examination which is conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur to provide admissions to management programs at XLRI and other institutes accepting XAT scores all across India. Around 1,00,000 students appear for this entrance to crack it. To ace such an entrance, candidates are required to prepare a strategy. Knowing about the syllabus can be considered to be the first and the most pivotal step of the strategy. It is only after knowing about all the topics present in the syllabus can the candidates chalk out a timetable for preparation.

XAT 2024 Syllabus for Essay Writing

The Essay Writing section was reintroduced in the XAT exam pattern last year. It is expected that there will be an Essay Writing section in XAT 2024. There is no defined syllabus for the Essay Writing section. During the XAT examination, candidates have to write an essay on the given topic. The topics are usually based on current issues. Candidates are advised to take care of the grammatical rules and clarity of thought in essay writing.

XAT 2024 Syllabus - Key Changes

Certain changes were made by XLRI in the XAT Syllabus last year to keep up with the pace of changing times. We have provided the candidates who will appear in XAT 2024 with the changes made in the syllabus:

  • The Syllabus of XAT was increased to 5 sections in XAT 2022.

  • Subjective/Descriptive questions like the Essay Writing section have been included in the question paper.

  • No more than 101 questions will be asked in the question paper.

  • The question paper will consist of MCQ-type questions and a Descriptive question.

  • There will be a scope of negative marking in 75 questions of the question paper.

  • The questions asked from the General Knowledge and Essay writing sections will not have negative markings.

What topics are covered in the Decision-Making section of XAT exam?

Some of the important topics covered in the Decision-Making section of XAT exam are Numeric Grid, Family Tree, Data Arrangement Test and Coding and Decoding. The other topics that you should pay attention to are analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, complex arrangement, conditions and grouping, situations, assumptions and decision-making. 

 

What is the difficulty level of the XAT exam?

The difficulty level of the XAT exam is high in comparison to other management entrance exams. The questions asked are from moderate to difficult levels. Candidates should prepare well to clear the exam with flying colours and get admission to the top MBA colleges in India. 

Which section of the XAT exam is toughest?

It is difficult to ascertain which section of the XAT exam is toughest. Most of the candidates find the Quantitative Ability the most difficult. However, a candidate who is good with numbers will not face any difficulty while answering this section. The verbal and decision-making sections can also prove tough for some students. 

How can I prepare for the essay writing of XAT?

You should try to improve your grammatical skills and communication skills to perform well in the essay writing part of the XAT exam. You should gather knowledge of a wide range of subjects since there are no particular topics for this part. You will be asked to write an essay on any topic between 150 to 200 words.  

How many questions will be asked in the Decision-Making section of XAT exam?

Around 21 questions will be asked in the Decision-Making section of the XAT exam. The difficulty level of these questions will be moderate. This section is not based on any theory but the questions challenge your thinking abilities and understanding of real-world problems. 

What will be asked in the GK section of XAT exam?

XAT General Knowledge sections contain questions from both static and current affairs. The static portion covers 70-80% of the syllabus and current affairs covers 20-30% of the syllabus. There will be questions from Science and Technology,  Economics, International Relations, Business, Politics and many other topics. 

What are the major topics of the Quantitative Ability section of the XAT exam?

Some of the major topics of the Quantitative Ability section of the XAT exam are Arithmetic Logic, Clocks, Distance and Heights, Partnerships and Averages and Critical Path. It is important to be thorough with all the mathematical formulas and theories to calculate the solutions to the questions quickly. 

Who decides the syllabus of XAT 2023?

The syllabus of XAT 2023 is decided by the conducting body of the exam i.e XLRI Jamshedpur. The syllabus is quite similar to other MBA entrance exams. Candidates must study all the topics from the four sections of the XAT syllabus. Also, there is no particular syllabus for the essay writing section. Students have to prepare it on their own
