AILET 2024 Eligibility Criteria: The National Law University, Delhi prescribes the AILET 2024 eligibility criteria for both UG and PG admissions. The details of the eligibility were released along with the application form of AILET 2024. The pointers provide information related to academic qualifications, age limit, reservation category etc, which the applicants will have to meet to apply for AILET 2024. 

AILET is organised by National Law University, Delhi for providing admission to BA LLB, Master of Law (LLM), and PhD programmes. For BA LLB (Hons.), the candidates must have passed the 12th standard, while for LLM, the applicants must have an LLB or equivalent degree. AILET 2024: Eligibility for BA LLB (Hons.)- Five-Year Programme

Eligibility for BA LLB (Hons.)- Five-Year Programme

  • Candidates must have qualified 10+2 examination or equivalent examination with not less than 45% marks for General Category candidates and 40% in case of SC / ST / Persons with Disability. 
  • The candidates appearing / waiting for results of the last qualifying examination can also apply.
  • Total Number of Seats available for BA LLB (Hons.) is 123.
  • Foreign Nationals have to achieve a minimum of 65% marks in the qualifying examination. (10 + 2 or similar).
  • Candidates passing the qualifying examination from a recognized School / College/ Institute located within the Delhi’s National Capital Territory (NCT) only will be eligible to apply for seats reserved for Delhi Region. For distance education students, if the centre of examination/study centre is located in the NCT of Delhi, the candidate will be considered under the Delhi Region and if the centre of examination/ study centre is located outside the Delhi region, he or she will be considered under the All India Level seats.
  • For eligibility on reserved seats of SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS categories under Delhi NCT, the candidates must satisfy the conditions mentioned above and must also possess category or caste certificate issued by the competent authority of Government of Delhi. Certificate issued by any other authority will not be accepted for admission on these seats.

AILET 2024: Eligibility for LLM- Two-Year Programme

Eligibility for LLM- Two-Year Programme

  • Keeping aside the Foreign National category, all the candidates must appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) on the basis of which selection shall be done. 
  • To be eligible for admission to the LL.M programme, candidates must have passed the LL.B degree or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized university. Pass percentage for reserved candidates shall be 45% marks, i.e SC/ ST/ PWD.
  • Candidates appearing for the exams in the same year or awaiting results of the qualifying exam may also apply and take AILET 2024. The eligibility for such candidates shall be obtained by the last date which shall be notified along with the entrance test result notification. In case the candidate needs to appear for a compartment in the year of admission, he/she shall be treated ineligible. 

AILET 2024: Eligibility for Ph.D

Check out the general eligibility for admission to the doctoral programme:

  • The general candidate must have obtained a Master's degree in Law (LL.M) or equivalent recognised by the statutory regulatory body with at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution approved by an authority established. The same may be incorporated under a law in his/her home country or any statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions. For those belonging to SC/ST/differently-abled candidates, 5% relaxation will be given as per the UGC regulations that are amended from time to time. 
  • The candidate who has a degree in law and qualified the Company Secretary examination organised by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and given the Associate Membership of the institute shall also be eligible.
  • Aspirants who have a degree in law and have passed the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) final exam will also be considered eligible for admission. 
  • If the candidate is a Judge of any State High Court of India with three years of experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India will also be eligible for PhD. 
  • 8 seats shall be given on the basis of merit through AILET 2024 and 2 seats will be given through direct admission to Foreign Nationals on merit of Research proposals evaluation.
  • 70% weightage is given to AILET exam while the rest 30% is given to Research proposal.

Are reserved categories granted any relaxation in the aggregate score of AILET?

For the AILET BA LLB programme, reserved categories are not awarded any relaxation. However, for the LLM programme, they are granted 5% relaxation in the aggregate score.

I am still pursuing LLB, can I apply for an LLM course through AILET?

Yes, you can apply for AILET, provided that you produce the necessary documents at the time of admission.

I do not fulfil all the eligibility criteria prescribed by AILET. Can I still apply for the entrance exam?

Only candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria prescribed by NLU, Delhi can apply for AILET.
