NEET Eligibility 2021

NEET UG 2021 eligibility criteria is the set of norms prescribed by the conducting authority, i.e. the National Testing Agency (NTA). Conducted annually, NEET 2021 is a gateway for medical aspirants to get admission in MBBS and BDS colleges in India. Before applying for NEET 2021, candidates must ensure that they meet the NEET eligibility criteria, which may include educational qualifications, age limit, and reservation criteria. In order to be eligible for the examination, candidates must qualify 12th class examination with Chemistry, Biology, Physics and English subjects. For General category candidates, it is mandatory to score 50% marks in 12th grade, whereas SC/ST/OBC category candidates must score 40% marks to become eligible for NEET 2021.

Note: In order to avoid any confusion later regarding the NEET 2021 eligibility criteria, appearing candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria beforehand as candidates will not be permitted to appear for the exam if he/she fails to meet the basic NEET eligibility criteria.

NEET 2021 Age Criteria

The maximum and minimum age limit for NEET 2021 is as follows -

  • The lower age limit for candidates aspiring for NEET 2021 should be 17 years as on December 31 of the admission year, i.e., 2021. For example, candidates appearing for NEET 2021 and are 16 years of age are eligible as he/she will complete 17 years by December 31, 2021. The admitted year is 2021. 
  • The upper age limit for General Category is 25 years
  • The upper age limit for Reserved Category and PwD is 30 years.

According to the official notification, the age criteria for NEET 2021 has been revised as follows -

Education Qualification for NEET 2021

  • Candidates must have completed their 12th standard or any equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-Technology with English from CBSE or any other state board.

  • Appearing candidates who are already in 12th standard can also apply for NEET, but they will have to show their passing certificates with the required percentage to take admission in medical and dental courses.

NEET 2021 Eligibility Criteria for State Quota

About 85% of the medical and dental seats are reserved for the students falling under NEET state quota. State quota candidates have to be residents of India and should have completed their Class 12 from their respective states.

Eligibility for All India Quota in NEET 2021

About 15% of seats are reserved for All India Quota candidates in various medical and dental colleges of India. The candidate falling under this category should be Indian Citizen, Person with Indian Origin, Non-Resident Indian, or Foreign National. Candidates from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir do not fall under 15% All India Quota Seats, however, such candidates can take admission in the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune.
