The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is the organising body of IBPS PO. IBPS PO entrance exam is conducted for the recruitment of POs (Probationary Officers) in various participating banks across India. The recruitment process is divided into three stages - Preliminary exam, Mains exam and finally the Interview round. The marks of Preliminary examination are used while generating the merit list, but it is only a qualifying exam. Candidates who qualify the Prelims exam are called to write the IBPS PO Mains examination. The marks obtained in the Mains examination are considered for shortlisting candidates for the interview and also for the final merit.

IBPS PO 2018 Eligibility Criteria

IBPS PO is an all India level examination conducted for the aspirants of the banking sector. In order to participate in the Probationary Officers, examination candidates need to know the IBPS PO 2018 eligibility criteria. Candidates must meet the minimum age requirement, educational qualification and citizenship criteria to be eligible for the examination.

Candidates are advised to check the detailed description related to the eligibility criteria of IBPS PO 2018 given below. Any candidate who is found to be unqualified for the IBPS PO examination at any phase of the Common Recruitment Process will be declared ineligible immediately.

IBPS PO 2018 Eligibility Norms

Nationality: Candidates should be an Indian citizen, they may also be citizens of Nepal or Bhutan or Tibetan Refugee who have settled in India. Migrated candidates from Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Pakistan, Burma, Zambia, Malawi, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, and Zaire with the intention of settling in India are eligible to apply for IBPS PO examination.

Age Criteria: The minimum age requirement is 20 years while the upper age limit is 30 years. According to the criteria of IBPS, the age relaxation will be based on the candidate's category.

Academic Qualification:

  • A Bachelor's degree in any subject/stream from any recognised university by the Central Government or Indian Government.
  • Candidate should have the Marksheet/ Degree Certificate indicating the percentage of marks obtained in the Graduation programme entered during IBPS PO Online Registration.
  • Candidates who are appearing for the last year of their degree programme can also apply for the IBPS PO exam.

IBPS PO 2018 Syllabus

IBPS PO 2018 Exam Pattern

The IBPS PO 2018 Exam Pattern has been announced by the exam conducting authority. Candidates preparing for the IBPS PO 2018 can check the detailed information on examination pattern for Preliminary as well as Main Examination on the official website of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). The exam pattern will help candidates to understand the style and structure of the question paper that they are about to face.

Checking the Exam Pattern of IBPS PO 2018 will also help candidates in preparation of the examination. As it defines the mode of examination, number questions, marks allotted to each question and total marks along with the duration of the examination, it helps candidates to frame their preparation based on these parameters.

  • There will be two online exams, Preliminary and Mains. A candidate has to pass the Prelims to take the Main Examination.
  • The result of the Main examination determines the participant’s eligibility for attending interviews and later stages of the recruitment.
  • Both Preliminary and Main Exams are in objective mode.
  • All tests except the part 'English Language' can be attempted in Hindi medium.

Note: Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS. An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by IBPS depending upon requirements will be shortlisted for Online Main Examination.

Main Examination:

Main Examination will have 200 marks for Objective Tests and 25 marks for Descriptive Test. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive Test by typing on the computer. Immediately after the completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be conducted.

  • Objective Test: The Objective Test is of 3 hours duration. The Objective Test will have different times for every section. The candidates need to qualify for each of the tests by obtaining the passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

  • Descriptive Test: The Duration of Descriptive Test is 30 minutes (25 marks) and it will be a test of English Language such as Letter Writing and  Essay writing. The candidates need to qualify for the Descriptive Test by obtaining passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Note:  Marks obtained by the candidates in the Main examination will be considered for shortlisting for Interview and preparation of final merit list.

IBPS PO Marking Scheme:

  • There will be negative marks for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests.  
  • For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one-fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score.  
  • If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no negative marking for that question.

IBPS PO 2018 Result

To view the IBPS PO 2018 Result for preliminary and main examination, candidates must enter their login details such as Roll Number along with Date of Birth and Password.

IBPS PO 2018 Preliminary Exam is expected to be conducted in October 2018. On the other hand, IBPS PO 2018 Mains Exam is expected to be held in November 2018. While the result for the Preliminary exam is usually declared in November, the result of Mains examination will be out in the month of January. The shortlisted candidates will be called for the final level i.e. Interview. The selected candidates will then be appointed to the respective banks as per their final scores.

IBPS PO Scores:

  • The corrected scores secured by each of the candidates in different sessions will be normalized using the equi-percentile method.

IBPS PO Cut-off 2018:

It is the minimum marks that the candidates must score in order to get shortlisted for the next stage of IBPS PO selection process. The IBPS PO cut-off 2018 for the Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Personal Interview will be issued along with the result. While the cut-off for IBPS PO Prelims will be declared in October 2018, the Mains cut-off will be announced in the month of the January 2019. In order to keep the recruitment process transparent, the IBPS PO is generated on the basis of cut-off examination such as the difficulty level of the exam, reservation criteria, number of exam takers, number of vacancies and marking scheme. The IBPS PO cut-off for Interview will be released in the month of April 2019. 

The IBPS PO organising authority will also publish sectional as well as overall cut-off score. It is compulsory for candidates to fulfill the subject-wise and category-wise cut-off score at each phase of the selection process. On the basis of IBPS allotment cut-off, candidates will be allocated to any of the 20 participating banks of IBPS. In order to calculate the final cut-off, the marks of Mains examination and Interview will be kept in mind.

IBPS PO 2018 Selection Process

IBPS PO Selection Process comprises of all the stages that candidates have to clear for recruitment to the desired IBPS participating organisation. On the basis of their performance in the Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Interview process, candidates are selected for the vacant posts in the associate banks of IBPS. The final selection of the candidates for the post of Probationary Officer (PO) will depend on the following factors:

  • Performance in the Preliminary test,
  • Performance in the Main test,
  • Performance in the interview,
  • Verification of the documents

IBPS PO Interview Process:

Only those candidates who qualify for IBPS PO Mains will be called for the Interview Process. Interviews will be organised at select centres.The examination centre, the address of the venue, time & date of Interview will be notified to the selected candidates in the call letter. Candidates will have to download their interview call letters from the official website of IBPS. Please note that no request regarding changes in the date of interview, center etc. will be considered. However, the conducting authorities have the right to change the date, venue, time, centre etc. of interview or hold supplementary process for the particular date, session, venue/centre under unforeseen circumstances, if any.

The total weightage for Interview Process is 100 marks. General category candidates need to score 40% of marks in Interview Process to qualify. Candidates belonging to reserved categories must score 35% of marks. The cumulative score of Mains and Interview Process in a ratio of 80:20 will be taken into consideration for selecting the candidates for which a merit list will be prepared. Candidates whose name feature in the merit list will be offered appointment letters.

  • Valid system generated printout of the online application form registered for CWE PO/MT-VII
  • Proof of Date of Birth 
  • Photo Identify Proof 
  • Mark-sheets or certificates for Graduation or equivalent qualification etc. Proper document from Board / University for having declared the result on or before 05.09.2017 has to be submitted.
  • Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format as stipulated by Government of India in the case of SC / ST / OBC category candidates.
  • Disability certificate
  • Experience certificates, if any
  • Any other relevant documents in support of eligibility.

It is proof that candidates have successfully submitted the application form and are eligible to sit for the exam. Without the admit card, candidates will not be allowed to sit for the examination.

3. Can I request for the change in the date, venue or time for IBPS PO 2018?

No, any such request shall not be entertained by the concerned authority. The date, time and venue can only be changed if the authority decides to do so.

How to Apply for IBPS PO 2018

Aspirants should know the detailed procedure of how to apply for IBPS PO 2018 exam. Candidates can apply for the IBPS PO 2018 examination through the online mode from the official website of IBPS. No other mode of application will be accepted for IBPS PO 2018 exam.

In order to apply for IBPS PO 2018, candidates will be required to register themselves on the IBPS’s official website. With the help of the ID and Password created, candidates will be able to fill in the application form. Candidates must fill the correct information and attach the necessary documents with the IBPS PO 2018 application form. Remember to cross-check the information before submitting the application form.

Pre-requisites for Applying for IBPS PO Exam Online:

Before applying online, candidates should:

  • Scan his/her photograph and signature as per the specifications and keep the necessary details/documents ready to make Online Payment of the requisite application fee/ intimation charges.
  • Keep a valid personal email ID, which should remain active until the completion of all selection rounds of the Common Recruitment Process. 
  • IBPS can send call letters/admit card for the examination through the registered email address. Under any circumstances, a candidate should not share their email address to/with any other person. If a candidate does not have a valid personal e-mail address, then he/she should make his new e-mail address before applying online and maintain that email account.

Complete the Application Form:

The system will ask for the candidate’s personal information, academic details, exam center choices like Name of the Programme, Name of the Candidate, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Category, Mobile number, Land Line Number, Email address, Parents Mobile Number, Password and Re-enter Password, Security Questions etc. under the basic tab of the detailed IBPS PO Application Form.

Uploading of Documents:

At this stage, candidates will have to upload their scanned documents, photograph and signature in the prescribed format and size. Please remember that signature in capital alphabets will not be accepted.

After filling all the required information, the candidate will have to click on the tab indicating ‘I agree’ in the announcement to ensure that the information entered is true. Also, it is important to preview the entire application form before clicking on the ‘Submit’ button.

Payment of Fees:

The registration fee can be paid using Internet banking /credit card/debit card/IMPS/Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets only.

Registration Fee:

  • General and OBC candidates need to pay INR 600  
  • ST/SC/PwD candidates need to pay INR 100.

Submit Registration Form:

  • After successful transmission of the fee, click on the 'Submit Registration Form'.
  • After submitting the application, the candidates are advised to take a printout of their system generated online application form for further process.
