GATE Application Form 2026

GATE 2026 registration has begun on August 28, 2025, in online mode at the GOAPS portal; goaps.iitg.ac.in. The last date to complete the GATE registration process without paying a late fee is September 28, 2025. Following that, you can apply with a late fee of Rs. 2,500 for the General category and Rs. 1,500 for the SC/ST/Female categories until October 9, 2025. The GATE 2026 application form has been released online on the official website of IIT Guwahati, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. If you are interested in appearing for the GATE 2026 exam, you are required to fill out the GATE 2026 application form. To complete the registration for the GATE 2026 exam, you will have to pay an application fee; the GATE exam authority has changed the application fee. The GATE 2026 application fees are Rs. 2000 for all unreserved students and Rs. 1000 for female, SC, ST, and PwD students. Before filling out the GATE application form, you must ensure that you meet the GATE 2026 eligibility criteria and fulfill all the required conditions to be able to sit for the exam.

Step-by-Step Guide to GATE 2026 Registration Process

The steps to register and fill out the GATE registration form 2026 have been explained below - 

Step 1: GATE 2026 Registration through GOAPS

  • Visit the official website of GATE, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

  • Register as a “New User” and proceed as mentioned in the guide

  • After successful registration, they will get access to GOAPS with the credentials they entered, such as name, a valid email ID, and mobile number.

  • International students must note that any contact with the student will be done only through the provided e-mail ID.

*Note: The email ID and mobile number submitted must be valid in nature because all communication related to the examination will be sent through this medium.

  • After providing all details like a valid email address, mobile number, and a GOAPS password of their choice.

GOAPS Password:

  • While creating the password, you must note that it should be a password that cannot be guessed easily.

  • You shouldn't use your name, date of birth, or an easily guessable string of letters or numbers.

  • Try creating a password that has numbers, letters, and special characters.

  • Confirm the registration.

GOAPS Enrolment ID:

  • After the successful registration, you will receive an email that contains the GOAPS Enrolment ID.

Step 2: Filling Out GATE Application Form 2026

  • Next, you have to fill out the GATE registration form 2026 with Personal information, including Name, Date of Birth, and other requisite information.

  • Click on the 'Start the GATE 2026 Application Process' tab.

  • Personal Details: Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, Category, A person with Disability Status and Dyslexia Status, Country of Permanent Residence, State/Union Territory, Select ID Proof and Enter ID Proof Number, Name of Parent/Guardian (stick to the specifications), Country of Residence of Parent/Guardian, Mobile Number of Parent/Guardian etc.

  • Eligibility Details: Name of the college where you completed a UG degree. You must also specify the address of the college along with the PIN code.

GATE 2026 Application Fees Payment Instructions

GATE application fees 2026 can be paid via online mode only through UPI, credit cards, debit cards, and net banking. Students can also pay the GATE 2026 registration fees using a master card or an overseas visa. The GATE application fee amount will be displayed on the payment portal. Students must carefully pay the correct fee amount. Students will be able to download the GATE 2026 application form PDF online after completing the payment.

Students must verify their internet connectivity before paying the GATE 2026 application fees. Students must check the transaction status from their bank account and then log in again to check the GATE application form payment status if they are experiencing technical difficulties or a bad internet connection.

What to Do If There Is a GATE Application Fee Payment Error?

For any questions regarding GATE application payment failures, students can reach this phone number: +91 361 258 6500. They can also submit an email to helpdesk.gate@iitg.ac.in.

Students can download the application after payment has been received. Otherwise, a new payment has to be made. The money will be returned to the source account within 15 days, but only if the amount has been taken out of the bank account and the payment acknowledgment has not yet been received. To avoid the last-minute rush, students are encouraged to pay in advance.

Documents Required for GATE Exam Registration 2026

The documents required for GATE exam registration include educational certificates, government ID proof, resident proofs, marksheets, etc. You must keep the GATE form documents ready before proceeding with the online registration process.

Here is the list of GATE documents required to fill out the application form - 

  • A scanned copy of the photograph and signature of the student.

  • Valid Photo ID such as an Aadhaar Card/Passport/Driving License/PAN Card/Voter ID/College ID/Employee Identification Card/Notarized Affidavit with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth, and Residential Address.

  • Foreign applicants require a valid ID proof, such as a Passport/ Govt. Issued ID/College ID/Employee ID.

  • Degree Certificate/Provisional Certificate/Course Completion Certificate.

  • Copy of Mark Sheet of the 5th /6th /7th semester.

  • Final year students must submit a Provisional Certificate Letter as per the format issued by the Home of Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Dept.

  • Students in the final year of AMIE have to submit their mark sheet for Section A of AMIE in case of professional equivalent qualifications.

  • Caste Certificate (if applicable) as per the given format.

  • The certificate needs to be in PDF format and have a file size of 10–300 KB.

GATE 2026 Scribe Specifications

  • The scribe cannot be a student sitting for the GATE 2026  exam, 
  • The scribe's educational background must fall below GATE's minimum requirements for eligibility. 
  • Students can select a different scribe for the services from a panel of (Y+1) scribes for Y students that will be provided at the exam center. 
  • Students who have scribes will receive an additional hour of compensatory time if they have limited writing skills.

GATE Application Form 2026 Correction

After the completion of the GATE 2026 form-filling process, the exam authorities will allow students to make corrections to their application form. This utility is helpful for students who have made mistakes while filling out the form. However, it is important to know that the GATE 2026 application form correction window will only be available for a limited duration, and you will not be allowed any further corrections to the GATE 2026 registration form. 

Additionally, the exam authority sends an email and SMS to students if there are any discrepancies in the application form. Students failing to make corrections before the deadline were placed under the 'Rejected Students' category. How Do I Make Changes to GATE 2026 Paper?

Students change the papers in the GATE 2026 application form within a certain time frame. Students must first pick their two paper combinations: the first paper and the second paper. Follow the steps given below to make changes to the GATE 2026 papers:

Step 1: Visit the official website of IIT Guwahati, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

Step 2: Go to the application section and click the "Apply Online" option.

Step 3: Log in with your enrollment ID/email address and password. 

Step 4: After logging in, the GATE application form status will appear on the screen.

What are the documents required for GATE application 2026?

The GATE documents required to fill out the application form are degree certificates, passing marksheets, a Valid Photo ID such as an Aadhaar Card/Passport/Driving License, and a caste certificate, etc. 

Will my GATE 2026 application be rejected if I don't provide a photograph that meets the specifications?

Your GATE application will be tagged as DEFECTIVE. You will be notified via email, SMS, or phone call from your Zone to RECTIFY your DEFECT (by uploading a fresh photograph). You will be offered opportunities for rectification up until the deadline, beyond which your GATE application form 2026 will be declared PROVISIONAL or REJECTED.

What should I do if the power or Internet connection fails during an online GATE application fee payment?

When you can come back online, go to the GATE 2026 website and verify the progress of your payment. If GATE has received your money, you can proceed to print the GATE 2026 application form. If your money was not received by GATE 2026, you may initiate a new payment. If any fee amount has been debited (deducted) from your bank account but you have not received an acknowledgment of payment from GATE 2026, the money will be reimbursed back to your account. However, this could take a week or longer.

Why should I choose THREE examination cities in the GATE 2026 application form?

Students will most likely be assigned a center in the GATE 2026 exam city of their first preference. Only in circumstances where too many students choose a specific city as their first preference do the other two options become significant. Students are required to enter their choices of cities to sit in the test, but should remember that due of operational limits, the GATE committee reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one, and assign a city that may not be one of the options.

Can I use one e-mail address to fill multiple GATE 2026 application forms?

NO. A single e-mail address can be used to submit only one GATE application form 2026.

How to register for GATE 2026?

To register for the GATE 2026 exam. visit the GOAPs portal at gate2026.iitg.ac.in and click on registration link. First complete the registration and generate password and enrollment ID. Fill out the application form, upload documents and pay the fees.

What is the registration fee for 2026 GATE?

The GATE application fee 2026 for female, SC/ST students is INR 1000/-. And for the extended period, the GATE fee is INR 1500/-/ For all other students, including foreign nationals the GATE 2025 application fee is INR 2000/- and for the extended period is INR 2500/-.

Will the authority provide a "magnified question paper" for visual impairment?

Visually disabled students are requested to contact the GATE Institute Representative as soon as they enter the examination centre. The representative and the invigilator would arrange for the magnified question paper for the visually handicapped students. 

I am facing difficulty while uploading my signature. I have followed all the guidelines defined by the GATE authorities. What should I do now?

Check the format in which you are trying to upload the document. Also, check the size and also do not resize the file.

For how many GATE papers can I apply?

A student can apply for a maximum of two papers of the 30 papers listed on the official website of GATE 2026. The choice of the appropriate paper is the responsibility of the student. Some guidelines in this respect are suggested below.

1. The student is expected to appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of his/her qualifying degree.

2. The student is, however, free to choose any paper according to his/her admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the institutions in which he/she is seeking admission.
