GATE 2026 registration has begun on August 28, 2025, in online mode at the GOAPS portal; goaps.iitg.ac.in. The last date to complete the GATE registration process without paying a late fee is September 28, 2025. Following that, you can apply with a late fee of Rs. 2,500 for the General category and Rs. 1,500 for the SC/ST/Female categories until October 9, 2025. The GATE 2026 application form has been released online on the official website of IIT Guwahati, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. If you are interested in appearing for the GATE 2026 exam, you are required to fill out the GATE 2026 application form. To complete the registration for the GATE 2026 exam, you will have to pay an application fee; the GATE exam authority has changed the application fee. The GATE 2026 application fees are Rs. 2000 for all unreserved students and Rs. 1000 for female, SC, ST, and PwD students. Before filling out the GATE application form, you must ensure that you meet the GATE 2026 eligibility criteria and fulfill all the required conditions to be able to sit for the exam.

GATE 2026 Registration Process

In order to apply for GATE 2026, students have to follow certain steps if they want to complete the entire process in a systematic and correct manner. The registration process for GATE 2026 involves the following stages: Registration, GOAPS Password, GOAPS Enrolment ID, Application Form Filling and Uploading Images and Supporting Documents, Online Fee Payment etc. 

Step-by-Step Guide to GATE 2026 Registration Process

The steps to register and fill out the GATE registration form 2026 have been explained below - 

Step 1: GATE 2026 Registration through GOAPS

• Visit the official website of GATE, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

• Register as a “New User” and proceed as mentioned in the guide

• After successful registration, they will get access to GOAPS with the credentials they entered, such as name, a valid email ID, and mobile number.

• International students must note that any contact with the student will be done only through the provided e-mail ID.

*Note: The email ID and mobile number submitted must be valid in nature because all communication related to the examination will be sent through this medium.

• After providing all details like a valid email address, mobile number, and a GOAPS password of their choice.

GOAPS Password:

• While creating the password, you must note that it should be a password that cannot be guessed easily.

• You shouldn't use your name, date of birth, or an easily guessable string of letters or numbers.

• Try creating a password that has numbers, letters, and special characters.

• Confirm the registration.

GOAPS Enrolment ID:

• After the successful registration, you will receive an email that contains the GOAPS Enrolment ID.

• The Enrolment ID is necessary to log in to fill out the online application form for GATE 2026.

GATE 2026 Login Window

The GATE Login Window, popularly known as GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) is an online platform through which students can create their own GATE Login ID and Password for various stages of the examination, such as GATE registration, application fee payment, document upload, hall ticket download, GATE scorecard download etc. students can refer to the image below to know what the GATE 2026 login window looks like -

Step 2: Filling Out GATE Application Form 2026

• Next, you have to fill out the GATE registration form 2026 with Personal information, including Name, Date of Birth, and other requisite information.

• Click on the 'Start the GATE 2026 Application Process' tab.

• Personal Details: Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, Category, A person with Disability Status and Dyslexia Status, Country of Permanent Residence, State/Union Territory, Select ID Proof and Enter ID Proof Number, Name of Parent/Guardian (stick to the specifications), Country of Residence of Parent/Guardian, Mobile Number of Parent/Guardian etc.

  •  Address details for communication purposes (PIN code mandatory)

• Eligibility Details: Name of the college where you completed a UG degree. You must also specify the address of the college along with the PIN code.

  • Before filling out the application form, you must have clarity on the GATE paper and the examination centre.

Step 3: Uploading Scanned Documents on GATE Registration Form 2026

In this step, you have to upload their scanned recent photograph, signature, and other documents (if required) according to the specifications mentioned by the exam conducting authorities. 

• High-quality scanned image (JPEG format) of a photograph and a signature.

• Thumb impression as per the specified requirements.

• Scanned images (JPEG format) of degree certificates/ mark sheets

• Scanned copy of the category certificate (if applicable) in PDF format.

Step 4: Preview of GATE Registration Form 2026

• Before proceeding to online fee payment, the server will display the preview of the GATE application form 2026.

• No changes will be allowed once students click on the ‘Confirm and Final Submit’ button.

• All students are advised to thoroughly check their submitted information for any mistakes.

• Click on “Confirm and Submit”.

Step 5: GATE Registration Form 2026 Fee Payment

• The payment of fees has to be done through online modes such as net banking/debit card/credit card. 

• After the payment is done, the students will be redirected to the GOAPS website.

Step 6: Submission of GATE Registration Form 2026

• After payment, the GATE 2026 application form will be successfully submitted through GOAPS.

• Download it and take a printout of the filled application form and keep it for your own reference.

GATE 2026 Application Fees Payment Instructions

GATE application fees 2026 can be paid via online mode only through UPI, credit cards, debit cards, and net banking. Students can also pay the GATE 2026 registration fees using a master card or an overseas visa. The GATE application fee amount will be displayed on the payment portal. Students must carefully pay the correct fee amount. Students will be able to download the GATE 2026 application form PDF online after completing the payment.

Students must verify their internet connectivity before paying the GATE 2026 application fees. Students must check the transaction status from their bank account and then log in again to check the GATE application form payment status if they are experiencing technical difficulties or a bad internet connection.

What to Do If There Is a GATE Application Fee Payment Error?

For any questions regarding GATE application payment failures, students can reach this phone number: +91 361 258 6500. They can also submit an email to helpdesk.gate@iitg.ac.in.

Students can download the application after payment has been received. Otherwise, a new payment has to be made. The money will be returned to the source account within 15 days, but only if the amount has been taken out of the bank account and the payment acknowledgment has not yet been received. To avoid the last-minute rush, students are encouraged to pay in advance.

Documents Required for GATE Exam Registration 2026

The documents required for GATE exam registration include educational certificates, government ID proof, resident proofs, marksheets, etc. You must keep the GATE form documents ready before proceeding with the online registration process.

Here is the list of GATE documents required to fill out the application form - 

• A scanned copy of the photograph and signature of the student.

• Valid Photo ID such as an Aadhaar Card/Passport/Driving License/PAN Card/Voter ID/College ID/Employee Identification Card/Notarized Affidavit with Photo, Signature, Date of Birth, and Residential Address.

• Foreign applicants require a valid ID proof, such as a Passport/ Govt. Issued ID/College ID/Employee ID.

• Degree Certificate/Provisional Certificate/Course Completion Certificate.

• Copy of Mark Sheet of the 5th /6th /7th semester.

• Final year students must submit a Provisional Certificate Letter as per the format issued by the Home of Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Dept.

• Students in the final year of AMIE have to submit their mark sheet for Section A of AMIE in case of professional equivalent qualifications.

• Caste Certificate (if applicable) as per the given format.

• Disability or PwD Certificate (if applicable).

• Students pursuing a higher degree or master's have to submit the qualifying degree certificate.

• Students with backlogs have to upload a copy of the mark sheet of the final year issued by the institute where they are studying.

• Net banking/credit card/debit card details for payment of the fee.

GATE 2026 Educational Documents Required

• The GATE 2026 information brochure's Appendix A section contains the format for the Original/Passing Degree.
• The certificate needs to be in PDF format and have a file size of 10–300 KB.
• Valid picture identification proofs include a driver's license, passport, PAN card, government ID, voter ID, Aadhaar-UID, and Aadhaar Virtual ID.
• The name, photo, ID number, and birthdate must all be displayed clearly on the photo ID
• On the day of the exam, the student must carry the GATE 2026 Admit Card and the authentic form of identification.  
• Students must make sure that the PwD category certificate they present is current and approved by the government. 
• Regardless of the kind of condition, benefits would be provided to people with benchmark disabilities or those with at least 40% impairment.

For the GATE 2026 exam, any student who is dyslexic or has a disability can use the services of a scribe. The scribe specifications are available for students to review below.

GATE 2026 Scribe Specifications

• The scribe cannot be a student sitting for the GATE 2026  exam, 
• The scribe's educational background must fall below GATE's minimum requirements for eligibility. 
• Students can select a different scribe for the services from a panel of (Y+1) scribes for Y students that will be provided at the exam center. 
• Students who have scribes will receive an additional hour of compensatory time if they have limited writing skills. 

Non-compliance with the above-mentioned list delayed or jeopardized the application process.

GATE Application Form 2026 Correction

After the completion of the GATE 2026 form-filling process, the exam authorities will allow students to make corrections to their application form. This utility is helpful for students who have made mistakes while filling out the form. However, it is important to know that the GATE 2026 application form correction window will only be available for a limited duration, and you will not be allowed any further corrections to the GATE 2026 registration form. 

Additionally, the exam authority sends an email and SMS to students if there are any discrepancies in the application form. Students failing to make corrections before the deadline were placed under the 'Rejected Students' category. Some of the important points pertaining to the GATE 2026 application form correction are as follows -

• Students receiving an email or SMS from the exam authority to resolve the discrepancy must complete the same before the last date

• The students were allowed to change the caste category in the application form.

• Students to change the exam paper (subject to eligibility criteria) or add an additional subject (only 2 papers allowed) can do the same within the specified dates.

• Students choosing the additional paper will have to pay the required application form fee.

• An additional fee is applicable to students who wish to change the exam city or centre.

• The students can not edit details such as email ID, Mobile Number, Name, Father's Name, or Educational Qualification in the application form.

How Do I Make Changes to GATE 2026 Paper?

Students change the papers in the GATE 2026 application form within a certain time frame. Students must first pick their two paper combinations: the first paper and the second paper. Follow the steps given below to make changes to the GATE 2026 papers:

Step 1: Visit the official website of the GOAP.

Step 2: Log in with your GOAPS enrollment ID or email address, and password.

Step 3: Once logged in, you can change the options for GATE 2026.

Step 4: After selecting your favorite subject, click the 'Submit' button, and you will be brought to the payment page. Entering the captcha takes you to the payment page. 

Step 5: Pay the required amount for the GATE 2026 application correction and print the amended application form.

How to Change GATE 2026 Exam City/ Centre?

Some of the important points about the process of changing the GATE exam city can be checked below -

• Students who wish to change the exam city in the GATE application form will have the option to do the same.

• The students need to log in to the GOAPS portal with their email ID and password to change the exam city.

• The students can choose any 3 exam centres.

• This can be done once the application form is completed and processed for further proceedings.

• A requisite amount is also to be paid along with the desired correction. 

• Therefore, students who wish to make changes must not wait further, as the window once closed will not be opened again. No further changes will then be entertained concerning exam centres.

How to Add GATE Second Paper?

Students who wish to add the GATE secondary paper from the two-paper combination can follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website of IIT Guwahati, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

Step 2: Go to the application section and click the "Apply Online" option.

Step 3: Log in with your enrollment ID/email address and password. 

Step 4: After logging in, the GATE application form status will appear on the screen. 

Step 5: If you submitted your GATE application with one test paper. You can add paper using the option located below.

Step 6: Select "GATE Paper II" and submit.

Step 7: Follow the instructions and proceed to make the payment. 

Step 8: Keep the receipt for future reference once you've completed the payment.

Payment Modes Accepted for Adding the GATE Two Paper

Students must pay an amount of Rs. 2300/- through any of the following payment modes:

• Debit cards include Ru Pay, Master, and Visa. 

• Credit cards include Mastercard, Visa, RuPay, Amex, and Diners. 

• Other options include net banking, UPI, and wallets.

How to Check GATE 2026 Application Status?

IIT Guwahati will open the window for checking the GATE application status in 2026. Students will be able to visit the GOAPs portal to check their GATE 2026 application form status. The authorities scrutinize the submitted GATE registration form 2026 for data accuracy. If any discrepancy is found, you are notified via email or SMS. The scrutiny process continues even after the application portal is closed. Students will be able to check their status after logging into their GOAPS accounts. It is important to rectify the discrepancies within the allotted time; otherwise, the application form will get rejected. 

How to Retrieve Forgotten GATE 2026 Enrollment ID & Password?

In case students have forgotten their GATE 2026 registration or enrollment ID, they can access it by following the steps given below. 

Step 1: Visit the GOAPS page.

Step 2: Then, go to the ‘Forgot GATE 2026 Enrolment ID or Registration ID’ and click on the link. 

Step 3: If your email address is still valid but you cannot remember your enrollment or registration IDs, click "Request for an OTP" to receive a 'One Time Password'.

Step 4: To change the password if you already have an OTP, click "Already have an OTP?"

Step 5: Then reset your password, and you will be able to get your GATE 2026 registration ID.

GATE 2026 application statistics will be released once the exam is completed. For the GATE 2025 exam, 9,36,019 students registered, out of which 7,47,319 students appeared. During the GATE 2025 registrations, the Computer Science Engineering paper has been the most opted paper with 2,07,851 students registering for it. After GATE CS, Civil Engineering was the second most opted paper with 1,01,596 registrations. Followed by a Mechanical Engineering paper with 79,830 registrations. 

Most Registered Paper in GATE 2024

CSE was the most opted paper by students in GATE 2024, with 1,52,652 students registering. Followed by, GATE Civil Engineering papers with 1,08,136 registrations and Mechanical Engineering with 83,114 papers.
