GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024 was released in online mode by IISc Bangalore, the conducting body for the exam, on its official website. The GATE 2024 eligibility criteria include the requirements related to academic qualifications, pass percentage, age limit, etc. which applicants must meet in order to be eligible for the GATE 2024 exam. Candidates must possess a Graduation/Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or a master's degree in Science to fulfill the GATE eligibility criteria 2024. There is no age limit to apply for the GATE 2024 exam. If an applicant fails to meet any of the given GATE eligibility criteria 2024 then he/she is not eligible to appear for the exam or admission process. All the applicants are therefore requested to check the GATE 2024 eligibility criteria before submitting the GATE 2024 application form.

GATE is a national-level postgraduate engineering entrance examination conducted for admission to Master of Engineering (M.E) or M.Tech in various NITs, IITs, and other technical institutes. Every year, this entrance examination is organized jointly by the IISc, Bangalore and seven IITs in support of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE. GATE 2024 was held for 30 papers. Out of these, a candidate could appear only in any one GATE paper. GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria in Detail

The aspirants can check the GATE 2024 eligibility criteria featuring the age limit, nationality, and academic qualifications required from the applicants: -

Nationality
  • Indian national candidates will be eligible for the exam

  • Candidates belonging to Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) will also be eligible to appear

Age Limit
  • There is no minimum or maximum age limit prescribed to appear for the examination
Academic Details
  • Only those candidates who have completed/will complete their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree (M.Sc) in any relevant science subject from a recognised University or institution will be eligible for GATE 2024

  • Candidates who are pursuing their-year B.Tech or UG course are also eligible to appear for GATE 2024

  • There is no minimum percentage required at the undergraduate level for appearing in GATE 2024

  • There is no limit on the number of attempts either. Hence, candidates who have appeared for GATE once earlier can appear again

Validity of GATE Score
  • GATE score is valid for three years. Candidates applying for admission in IITs or jobs in PSUs must have a valid GATE 2024/ 2023/ 2022 scorecard

Documents Required to Support GATE 2024 Eligibility

The applicants must submit the following documents to support their GATE 2024 eligibility claims:

  • If a candidate has completed one of the qualifying examinations as mentioned in the table above or earlier, then he/she has to submit the degree certificate/provisional degree certificate/course completion certificate/membership certificate as issued by the society or institute.

  • If the candidate is expected to complete one of the qualifying norms in 2024 or later as mentioned in the table above, then he/she had to upload their Provisional Certificate Letter (as issued by the Head of the Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department) or a copy of marks card for Section A of AMIE, etc.

  • All the documents have to be uploaded only while filling out the online application. It does not have to be sent by post.

  • Candidates with backlogs (failed subjects) in any of the subjects in their qualifying examination had to upload a copy of any of the mark sheets of the final year issued from the institute where he/she was studying.

GATE 2024 Eligibility for International Students

GATE 2024 eligibility criteria for foreign students are different from the normal eligibility rules. Scroll down to check the eligibility criteria required to be fulfilled by foreign students to appear in GATE 2024 -

  • Candidates who are still pursuing or have obtained a degree from countries except India in technology or engineering (at least four years) can apply. Final-year candidates can also apply for GATE 2024

  • Candidates who are pursuing or have obtained a postgraduate degree in any subject related to Science are also eligible to register for GATE 2024

Important Note: Candidates who are pursuing or have obtained a higher degree other than the courses mentioned above must select the minimum qualifying degree while filling out the application form for GATE 2024.

Is there any change in the GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria?

The eligibility criteria for GATE 2024 remain the same for the upcoming academic year. As per the GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024 laid down by the conducting body, candidates currently pursuing the 3rd year of graduation degree or higher years, as well as those who have completed a degree in Science/Technology/Architecture/Engineering/Humanities from a government recognized university are qualified to sit for the GATE 2024 Examination.
