GATE 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Students aspiring to apply for GATE 2018 examination can check the eligibility norms or criterion for GATE 2018 examination here. GATE is a national level postgraduate engineering entrance examination conducted for the admission to Master of Engineering (M.E) or M.Tech programmes in various NITs, IITs and other technical institutes. The detailed eligibility criterion for GATE 2018 examination is elaborated below.

General Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2018

  • According to the official website of GATE, there is no minimum or the maximum age limit to appear for GATE 2018 examination.

  • Only those candidates who have completed/ will complete their UG course from a recognized University or institution in 2018 are eligible for GATE 2018 examination.

  • There is no minimum percentage required in UG course for appearing in GATE 2018.

  • There is no limit on the number of attempts either. Hence, those candidates who have appeared for GATE once earlier can appear again.

Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Candidates for GATE 2018

  • Candidates who are still pursuing or have obtained a degree from countries except India in technology or engineering (at least four years) can apply. Final year candidates can also apply for GATE 2018.

  • Candidates who are pursuing or have obtained a postgraduate degree in any subject related to Science are also eligible to register for GATE 2018.

Important Note: The candidates who are pursuing or have obtained a higher degree other than the courses mentioned above must select the minimum qualifying degree while filling the application form for GATE 2018.

FAQs

1. I have passed my B-Tech successfully. I am pursuing M-Tech, can I apply for GATE?

Yes, you can. You will have to mention the B.Tech details on your GATE Application Form.

2. I have passed in 2017 but I have a backlog. Can I apply for GATE? 

Yes, you can. You will need to clear the backlog by August 2018 to be able to apply for admissions.

3. I have passed my degree in 2016. I don’t have my Degree certificate but I have Provisional Certificate. Will that be enough?

Yes, you can apply for GATE using any one of the following: Degree certificate / Provisional certificate/Course completion certificate / Professional certificate/Membership certificate issued by the society or institute.

4. How many times can I appear for GATE? What is the age limit?

There is no specification for the number of attempts and there is no age limit also.

5. I have completed my Graduation through Distance Learning. Can I apply for GATE?

Yes, you can. There is no specification about the mode of learning (distance or open university) but the course must be recognized by AICTE for candidates to be eligible for admissions.

6. I have chosen category as OBC, but there is no option to upload the certificate. What to do?

The OBC Certificate is not required to be uploaded. OBC certificate is required only while taking admission using the GATE score.

7. I have graduated in 2017 but I don’t have my degree certificate or provisional certificate. What document should I upload for eligibility criteria?

Please upload a copy of your final year marks sheet or upload a declaration from your college Principal (or other competent authority) along with the signature and seal.
