SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2025 is prescribed by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) in the official notification released on June 23, 2025. The SSC CHSL 2025 exam has two tiers, Tier 1 and Tier 2, since Tier 3 is merged with Tier 2. The SSC CHL Tier 1 exam is the most crucial portion of the SSC CHSL exam, hence students should aim to get high marks. Candidates need to clear all the stages of the respective exam to be eligible for recruitment. To advance to the next tier, candidates must receive scores that are equal to or higher than the cutoff values.

The candidates should focus on the types of questions asked in the Tier I exam. The question paper is divided into four parts consisting of MCQs. The questions will be in English and Hindi (except Section 1). The SSC CHSL exam pattern 2025 for Tier I exam is as follows -

Negative Marking: There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each attempt by the candidates.
Duration of the Exam: The duration of the SSC CGL Tier I exam is 1 Hour (60 Minutes). The candidates need to answer all 100 questions within the specified duration.
The Tier-II exam of SSC CHSL 2025 is a descriptive paper, and the same is conducted for 405 marks divided into three sections. The Tier-II exam is pen and paper-based, and the duration of the exam is 2 hours 15 minutes for Session 1 and 30 Minutes for Session 2. The SSC CHSL Tier-II exam 2025 includes the following topics -
There will be an Essay, and the candidates need to attempt the same in 200-250 words.
Similarly, there will be a Letter/ Application that the candidates need to attempt in 150-200 words.
The candidates can attempt the Tier II exam either in English or Hindi.
The candidates must also write the correct roll number in the required places.

Session I and II of the SSC CHSL Tier II exam 2025 will be conducted on the same day. The SSC CHSL Tier 2 exam's Session I will include three sections that are Section I, Section II and Section III. It is mandatory for all the candidates to qualify for all the sessions of Tier II exam. The following pointers will give you a brief understanding of how the Tier II exam will be conducted.
Tier II will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions, except for Module II of Section III.
The questions will be set in English and Hindi except for Module II (i.e. English Language and Comprehension module) in Section II.
There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section I, Section II and Module-I of Section III. Module I of Section III is the Computer Knowledge Test which is essential but qualifying in nature.
Module II of Section III i.e. Skill Test/ Typing Test: Module II of Section III will include conducting of Skill Test/ Typing Test in Session-II on the same day. Skill Test/ Typing Test will be of qualifying nature.

The SSC CHSL 2025 test has negative marking on both tiers. Each wrong answer will result in a 0.50 deduction from your score in Tier I. For more information, see the table below. On the other hand, in Tier II, there will be negative marking of one mark for each incorrect response in Sections I, II, and Module I of Section III.

Firstly, the medium of typing test is Hindi or English. Candidates need to choose the language while filling the online application form only.
Candidates opting English as the language for Typing Test should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute (30 for Hindi medium).
The assessment of the candidates is based on the accuracy of the typing on the computer. The candidates will be given a text passage, and the duration of the exam is 10 minutes.
Skill Test for Data Operator
Skill Test for DEO: Skill Test is essential for Data Entry Operators. All candidates have to appear in the Skill Test where their data entry speed is checked.
Part A - Skill Test for the post of DEO/ DEO Grade 'A’:
Data Entry Speed: The official notification reads Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (Eight Thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer’ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage.
Test Duration: The duration of the Test will be 15 minutes and printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer. The passage to be entered in the Computer may also be displayed on the computer screen.
Compensatory Time: Candidates eligible for a scribe as per Para 8.1 and 8.2 will be given compensatory time of 5 minutes. Therefore, the duration of the Skill Test for such candidates will be 20 minutes.
Part B - Typing Test for other posts i.e. LDC/ JSA:
Medium: Typing test medium for SSC CHSL will be Hindi or English. The candidates have the option to opt for any of the mediums of Typing Test (Hindi or English) in the online Application form.No later changes to the typing test's medium will be accepted; the candidate's selection of it in the online application form will be considered final.
Typing Speed: Candidates opting for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) and those opting for Hindi medium should have a typing speed of 30 words per minute (w.p.m.). 35 w.p.m. and 30 w.p.m. correspond to about 10500 key depressions per hour and about 9000 key depressions per hour respectively.
Typing Accuracy: The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
Passage Dictators for VH Candidates: Passage Dictators will be provided to those VH candidates for the Typing test who have opted for scribe in the online Application Form. The Passage Dictator will read out the passage to the VH candidate within the allotted time period.
Further, the official notification reads "Persons with Disabilities candidates who claim to be permanently unfit to take the Typing Test because of a physical disability may, with the prior approval of the Commission, be exempted from the requirement of appearing and qualifying at such test, provided such a candidate submits a Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-XIV) to the Commission from the competent Medical Authority, i.e., the Civil Surgeon of a Government Health Care Institution declaring him to be permanently unfit for the Typing Test because of a physical disability. In addition, such candidates must substantiate their claim by furnishing the relevant Medical Certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure-XI to Annexure-XIII of the Notice of Examination, as applicable, at the time of Typing Test. Otherwise, their claim for seeking exemption from the Typing Test will not be entertained by the Commission."

Skill Test is mandatory for the candidates applying for Data Entry Operator posts.
In order to clear the skill test, the candidates need to maintain a data entry speed of 8,000 Key Depressions per hour.
The assessment of the candidates shall be made as per the correct entry of words/ key depressions.
The duration of the Skill Test us 15 minutes, and the candidates will be provided with a printed matter in English (about 2000-2200 key depressions). The candidates need to enter the same on Computer allocated to them at the exam centre.
For the post of Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’, the candidates need to maintain a data entry speed of 12,000 Key Depressions per hour. The candidates will be provided a printed matter in English (about 3700-4000 key depressions). The duration of the exam is 15 minutes.

For SSC CHSL exam, the candidates are given a total of 60 minutes to solve SSC CHSL Tier I paper comprising 100 questions that count to a total of 200 marks (2 marks each question).
