AIFD WAT Notification 2025 Overview

The official AIFD WAT 2025 Notification was made available in December 2024. The application process began at that time, and the last date to fill out the AIFD WAT 2025 application form without a late fee was April 30, 2025. The online interview scheduling started on January 15, 2025, onwards. The First Merit List of selected candidates was released on May 28, 2025, and the Second Merit List was released on May 29, 2025. The Final Merit List was released on May 31, 2025. The last date for selected candidates to accept their offer letter was June 07, 2025. It should be noted that the written exam is no longer available and has been replaced with an Online Admission Test (OAT). After you are selected, the institute will contact you via email or phone with detailed instructions on fee payment, document submission, and orientation. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply by filling out the application form and paying a registration fee of INR 1,000 via the NEFT/RTGS process.

What is the AIFD WAT Exam?

The Army Institute of Fashion & Design (AIFD) was established in 2004 in Bengaluru under the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). AIFD annually conducted a Written Admission Test (WAT) for its design courses until 2021, when the Army Institute of Fashion and Design moved to an Online Admission Test (OAT) format. For the admissions cycle starting in 2025, AIFD is officially no longer conducting the WAT entrance exam. The institute formally offered the AIFD WAT, a written entrance examination held every year for admission to its design programs up until 2025, when a new admission process took effect. For Children of Army Personnel

  • If you fall into any of the below categories, you are eligible.
  • Child of a serving Army personnel and has completed a minimum of 10 years of continuous service.  
  • Child of ex-Army personnel granted a regular pension, family pension, or disability pension on retirement, discharge, demise, or release.
  • Involves wards of medically boarded-out recruits receiving a disability pension.

Special Categories

  • Wards of ex-Army Medical Corps or Dental Corps Officers serving in the Indian Navy or Air Force
  • An ex-Army Medical Corps or Dental Corps officer must have served a minimum of 10 years in the Army before applying as a ward.
  • Adopted, Stepchildren, and Children of Remarried Widows
  • Children adopted as wards are eligible for consideration, provided they were adopted five years before applying for admission.
  • Stepchildren are eligible if one biological parent was an Army Officer and meets the eligibility criteria.

APS / MNS / TA Personnel Categories

You can qualify if you have a child of:

  • APS personnel on deputation with 10 years of Army service.
  • APS personnel who have been classified as ex-servicemen by the Ministry of Defence.
  • APS personnel who have retired on completion of 10 years of pensionable service without reverting to the P&T Department.
  • MNS who have 10 years of service in the regular Army or to an Army Pensioner.
  • TA personnel with a minimum of 10 years of embodied service.

Other Eligible Candidates

  • Wards of serving personnel of the Assam Rifles.
  • Wards of serving or retired personnel of the Navy and Air Force (IN & IAF).
  • Civilians can apply based on valid NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) or AIFD (Army Institute of Fashion Design) OAT (On Admission Test) scores.

Educational Qualification

You must have passed Class 12 or equivalent from any stream with a minimum of 35% marks from a UGC recognized board. You must also have passed Class 11 and Class 12 as a regular student with the same subject combination to apply for B.Sc. FAD or B.Sc. IDD.

Physical Fitness

You must submit a medical fitness certificate from an MH, RMO, or registered medical practitioner stating that you are physically and mentally fit to study the course.
