The JEE Advanced Exam Pattern is not pre-defined by the examination authorities because the examination is held on a rotating basis by the 7 participating IITs.

  • Candidates will be notified about negative marking (if any) at the time of the test in the JEE Advanced 2023 guidelines
  • Students can choose between English and Hindi as their language of instruction throughout the examination. They can also switch between languages whenever they choose
  • Candidates must attend in both Paper 1 and Paper 2; if they do not, they will be considered absent from JEE Advanced 2023

The JEE Advanced 2023 exam pattern comprises information such as exam style, marking scheme, total number of questions, question type, and so on. 

Check the following details:

  • JEE Advanced will be administered online (a computer-based test).
  • The number of papers will be two: 1 and 2. (Both Mandatory)
  • Each paper will be given three hours to complete the exam (4 hours for PwD candidates)
  • Subjects: The paper will have questions from three subjects: physics, chemistry, and mathematics
  • The paper will have multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with only one right answer
  • Marking Scheme: According to the marking scheme, the marks for each right answer vary. While certain questions with erroneous answers may receive negative grading
  • The paper will be available in English

The following are the major subjects covered in the JEE Advanced Syllabus 2023

Physics: Kinematics, General Physics, Mechanics, Electricity and magnetism, Optics, Thermal Physics, Modern Physics, and so on.

Chemistry: General topics, gaseous and liquid states, atomic structure and chemical bonding, energetics, chemical equilibrium, transition elements, surface chemistry, extractive metallurgy, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, chemical kinetics, solid-state, preparation, properties, and reactions of alkane, alkenes, and alkynes, and so on.
