Eligibility Criteria to Apply for NEE 2026

Students appearing for the qualifying examination in 2026 are eligible to apply for NERIST NEE. You must meet specific criteria based on the exam level you are applying for. Provided below are the eligibility criteria for the three sections.

Eligibility Criteria for NEE-I

Age Limit: As of July 31, 2026, the maximum age limits are as follows -

  • 19 years for the General category (GE) (born on or after August 1, 2006).

  • 22 years for OBC and female (born on or after August 1, 2003).

  • 24 years for ST, SC, and PD (born on or after August 1, 2001).

Academic Qualification: You must have passed or appeared in Class X/Matriculation/Secondary examination or an equivalent exam with Science and Mathematics. You should have passed all subjects, including Science and Mathematics, separately.

Eligibility Criteria for NEE-II

Age Limit: As of July 31, 2026, the maximum age limits are - 

  • 23 years for General category (GE) (born on or after August 1, 2002).

  • 26 years for OBC and female (born on or after August 1, 1999).

  • 28 years for ST, SC, and PD (born on or after August 1, 1997).

Academic Qualifications:

  • NEE-II (PCM): Must have passed or appeared in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).

  • NEE-II (PCB): Must have passed or appeared in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB).

Eligibility Criteria for NEE-III

Age Limit: As of July 31, 2026, the maximum age limits are - 

  • 30 years for General category (GE) (born on or after August 1, 1995).

  • 33 years for OBC and female (born on or after August 1, 1992).

  • 35 years for ST, SC, and PD (born on or after August 1, 1990).

Academic Qualifications: You must have passed or appeared in a 3-year Diploma course from a Government-recognized polytechnic or institution in the relevant or allied discipline/branch as specified in Appendix-I of the Information Brochure, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks across all three years

Steps to Apply for NEE 2026

You must apply for NEE 2026 through the online mode by visiting the official website. Follow the steps below provided here to complete the NERIST NEE 2026 registration process:

Step 1: Online Registration

  • Visit the official NEE 2026 portal and click on 'Online Application for NEE 2026'.

  • Click on 'Sign In' if already registered, or select 'Register New Account' for fresh registration.

  • Enter email ID, name, mobile number, and create a password to register.

  • You will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number for account verification.

  • Ensure all details are correct, as username, mobile number, or email cannot be changed later.

  • Click on 'Register' to create an account

Step 2: Filling the NEE 2026 Application Form

Next, the NERIST NEE application form 2026 must be carefully filled out, and all data should be checked thoroughly before the final submission to avoid any errors that might lead to rejection.

  • Check the list of exams applied for and start filling out the form for the preferred stream.

  • Choose a region-based quota that includes all eight states of North East India.

  • Choose the preferred examination center carefully, as it cannot be edited after submission.

  • After filling out all fields, click on 'Save' to proceed.

  • Fill in personal details in the designated fields and click on 'Save & Continue'.

  • Upload photograph and signature, and again click on 'Save & Continue' to move on to the next step.

Step 3: Payment of Application Fee

You can pay the application fee for NERIST NEE 2026 online using Visa or MasterCard. To do this, you need to choose their payment option (Debit/Credit Card or Net Banking) and proceed to the payment gateway. After selecting their card and entering the required details, you should click on the 'Pay Now' button. If the payment is successful, you will receive an SMS on the registered mobile number and will be taken to the registration completion page. After finishing the application process, you can download the e-Application form and print a copy for your records. It should be noted that online payment is only available for students who have an account with a recognised bank and a username and password for online transactions.
