JEE Advanced 2020 result is calculated on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidates in both the Paper I and Paper II. Based on the marks obtained by the candidates in JEE Advanced 2020 Paper I and Paper II, the concerned authorities will prepare a Common Rank List.
For Example, if a candidate has obtained 50 marks in Physics Paper I and 50 marks in Physics Paper II, the total marks obtained by the candidate in Physics is the sum of marks obtained in Paper I and Paper II, i.e 100. The similar methodology is employed while calculating the total marks obtained by the candidate in Chemistry and Mathematics.
The following formula is used to calculate the aggregate marks scored by the candidates in JEE Advanced 2020 examination.
Aggregate Marks/Marks Secured in JEE Advanced 2020=Aggregate Marks (Physics+Chemistry+Mathematics)
The rank list of JEE Advanced 2020 includes the names of those candidates who have successfully secured the minimum prescribed marks in the JEE Advanced 2020 examination.
The Rank Lists of JEE Advanced 2020 are prepared for only those candidates who appear for both Papers 1 and 2.
The JEE Advanced Rank lists are prepared on the basis of aggregate marks in JEE Advanced 2020 exam.
The aggregate score means the sum of the marks secured by the candidates in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics subjects.
There will be no waiting list for ranking.
If the aggregate marks obtained by two or more candidates are similar, then the tie-break policy will be used to give the ranks.
A separate rank list will be prepared for reserved category (OBC/ SC/ ST/ PWD).
A candidate who manages to qualify in more than one category will be considered in all the categories, where he/she belongs to the purpose of ranking.
Along with the results, the minimum marks that aspirants need to acquire for inclusion in the JEE Advanced rank list are released.

The JEE Advanced 2020 tie-breaking policy shall be applicable for the test takers eventually scoring equal marks or ranks in the entrance exam. In order to identify the one scoring higher rank few parameters are taken into consideration. These parameters help the concerned authority to identify the one with higher rank or position in the rank list of JEE Advanced 2020. The exam will take place in May 2020 at the various defined centres of the nation. With various procedures into consideration, the result of the test takers will be declared in June 2020.
The tie-breaker policy shall be practical with the declaration of the JEE Advanced result 2020. The parameters of this tie-breaker policy include the following:
Candidates with a higher score in Mathematics will be given the first priority as compared to other JEE Advanced equal marks scorer. Higher rank will be given to the candidates with higher marks in Mathematics.
If the marks secured in Mathematics fails to break the tie then the marks scored in Physics will be considered. The ones scoring higher marks in Physics will be allotted with a higher rank as compared to the others.
In case if the tie still exists then the ones with equal marks will be given equal ranks by the concerned authority of JEE Advanced.
The result will be released in June 2020 for all the applicants who successfully gave the entrance exam. After the results and the ranks obtained by the candidates are announced, they must then check the cut-off list. The JEE Advanced 2020 cut-off list has been declared after the release of the results. Candidates must check the cut-off list to ensure their position in the respective IITs, IIITs, NITs and CFTIs.
Candidates must next go on registering for the counselling process that will be conducted by the responsible authorities. The counselling process will be conducted by JoSAA within a decided time frame for all the applicants who have successfully cleared the examination. Considering the list of all the respective IITs, IIITs, NITs and CFTIs, the counselling process will take place and the seats to the candidates will be allocated.
For the seats, the aspirants will have to make their respective choices at the time of registration for the counselling process. Based on the preferences made by the applicants the seats will be allocated. It is a must for the aspirants to know that the final call for admission will be handled by the concerned authorities of the respective institutions. Once the decision for the seat allotment is taken no further changes will be accepted in this respect. On the day of final admission call, the aspirants must visit the institution with all the required documents and certificates. This will end the process of selection of the right candidates by the respective IITs, IIITs, NITs and CFTIs.
