ILICAT 2024 Syllabus

The ILICAT syllabus 2024 has been specified by the Indian Law Institute on the official website. The details of the syllabus can be found in the prospectus. Please note that the conducting authority has outlined the exam format and the major subjects along with a list of some topics to be covered for preparation.

  • Part A of the question paper will consist of 40 questions of MCQ. They will be based on the English Language and General Knowledge.
  • Part B of ILICAT 2024 includes 100 MCQ-type questions from various legal topics such as Constitutional law, IPC, Jurisprudence, Public International law etc.
  • Part C of ILICAT 2024 comprises 4 subjective type questions. Candidates have to answer each one of them in not more than 150 words each.

Part 1 - For the English Language & General Knowledge:

A candidate must be aware of the basic norms of grammar and must be well-versed in the English language. Also, an aspirant must make sure to read newspapers and journals regularly to keep updated with General Knowledge. The important topics are listed below.

ILICAT 2024 Exam Pattern

Here is a quick overview of the ILICAT 2024 exam pattern -

  • The ILICAT exam is held in offline mode.
  • There are a total of 144 questions. Out of 144 questions, 140 are objective type and 4 are subjective ones.
  • The exam duration is 2 hours 30 minutes.
  • The question type is a mix of both multiple choice and subjective.
  • Negative marking is applicable in the examination, where for every wrong answer, 1/4th mark will be subtracted from the total.
  • The total mark of the written test is 180. 
  • The objective questions will be of 1 mark each.
  • The subjective questions will carry 10 marks each.
  • For viva voce, there will be 20 marks. However, please note that only those aspirants who qualify the written test will be called for the viva round.
  • The medium of the ILICAT 2024 is English.

  • Candidates must create a study plan and keep it simple and practical. They must allocate enough time for each subject as per their preparation level.
