How to Prepare for TISSNET 2019

TISSNET 2019 is scheduled to take place in January, and the aspirants must begin their preparation in advance for better performance in the entrance exam. The preparation for TISSNET 2019 is not so difficult if you are preparing for other popular management entrance exams. The major focus with regard to TISSNET 2019 should be on improving accuracy and clearing TISSNET 2019 cut-off. Even though TISSNET 2019 is easy, the increasing competition and the number of seats available in M.A. programme are making it difficult to crack TISSNET.

In order to fare in the TISSNET 2019 exam, you must practice numerous mock tests with the level of questions ranging from easy to moderate and moderate to difficult. Give more emphasis to the general knowledge part of the exam, as it is one of the scoring areas of TISSNET. A perfect preparation strategy for TISSNET along with appropriate time management will lead to good percentile. A day in TISSNET exam preparation must consist of understanding the new concepts, revision of old topics, and a mock test practice.

TISSNET 2019 aspirants must note that constant/ regular preparation will lead to better results. Therefore, do not skip the exam preparation, and make sure that you practice enough number of mock tests before the exam.

Section-wise Preparation Strategy for TISSNET 2019

Before going through the section-wise preparation strategy of TISSNET 2019, it is better to refer TISSNET exam pattern. General Knowledge

  • Scoring more than 30 marks in the General Knowledge section is not very difficult in TISSNET.

  • If you read newspapers regularly and keep a track of current affairs, there are higher chances of scoring maximum marks in this section.

  • The questions on General Knowledge will be from different topics such as History, Economics, Politics, etc. It is advisable to remember important dates, awards, etc.

  • Make a note of all the referred topics, important news/ events and current affairs so that you can refer the same a day before the exam.

  • There are TISSNET preparation books available in the market that can help aspirants with TISSNET preparation.

  • Practice enough number of mock tests to improve knowledge and accuracy.

English Proficiency

If you have good command in English, there is no need for separate preparation with regard to the English Proficiency section of TISSNET 2019 exam. You can revise the topics and proceed further. For students, who do not have good command over the subject must primarily focus on the following topics –

  • Synonyms and Antonyms

  • Word Substitution

  • Analogies

  • Idioms

  • Homophones

  • Correction of Sentences and Error Spotting

  • Basic Grammar (Active and Passive Voice, Direct & Indirect Speech, Prepositions, etc.)

  • Reading Comprehension

It is advisable to practice at least two topics a day. With regard to vocabulary, try to learn new/complex words along with its meaning, antonyms, and synonyms. As far as grammar is concerned, understand the basic grammar rules and practice exercises in the respective topic.

There are a number of grammar books available in the market, and you can pick one for practice purpose. Wren & Martin High School English Grammar and Composition is one of the best books for preparation. The book consists of grammar rules, vocabulary, reading comprehensions along with numerous exercises. This book is also useful for personal improvement and other exams.

Mathematics & Logical Reasoning

If you are preparing for only TISSNET 2019 exam, more importance must be given to Mathematics & Logical Reasoning section of TISSNET exam. This section involves questions from Quantitative Aptitude, DI, and LR (Logical Reasoning). Revise all the topics prescribed in TISSNET 2019 syllabus. You can also refer to the previous papers of popular management exams like CAT for better preparation.

You need to understand the concept/ basics associated with the respective topic in this section. If you are able to understand the basics better, you can easily solve the problems in this section. On the other hand, you must focus on practicing enough number of mock tests to attain accuracy in solving problems.

General Tips & Tricks

  • Time Table Management: Six months is a good amount of time to excel in TISSNET, provided you are honest and dedicated to achieving your goal. Keeping your weaknesses and strengths in mind, you should create a timetable to devote time to each subject.
  • Candidates appearing for TISSNET should know that not all topics carry equal weightage of marks. Some subjects carry more marks, while others questions don’t. It is recommended to devote more time to such important topics.
  • Allocate more time to GK. If you do not prepare well for GK, it will be difficult for you to crack TISSNET and PIT (Pre-Interview Test).
  • Make a habit of reading the newspaper daily for social, political and your syllabus relevant news. Reading news also means that you will not have to prepare separately for Reading Comprehension.
  • It is indeed important for you to clear your concepts and have a proper understanding of each topic/chapter. Also, to keep your preparation on track, you must also make notes while studying for the exam.
  • Take more and more mock tests to check your preparation level. Analyse every mock that you take and take it as an example to work on your weak areas.
  • The more you solve the previous year question papers, the better understanding you get about attempting the final exam. Solving previous year question papers will not only give you an insight about the exam but will also make you confident on the day of the exam. Previous year question papers will also give you an idea of the frequent questions asked in the exam from various topics.
  • By solving sample papers, you will know the existing pattern and have a fair idea of the type of questions that come in the paper along with the time constraint.
  • The revision will help you recall all the topics studied along with grasping new concepts. 

Important Instructions for Exam Day

  • Visually challenged candidates appearing for the test must bring their writers along with them.
  • All the examination halls/rooms have a wall clock as the candidates are not allowed to wear any type of watch in the examination hall/room.
  • The use of calculators or Log Tables is not permitted. Mobile phones, pagers, electronic devices, bits of paper, books/notebooks etc. are not allowed in the Examination Hall/Room. The candidate(s) found in possession of any of these items in the examination hall/room will be treated as unfair means and his/her result will not be declared.
  • The candidates have to follow the instructions given by the invigilators in the examination hall/room and should not argue with the invigilators or other staff involved in the examination duty at the examination center. 
  • TISS reserves the right to make changes in the notified admission test schedule.
  • No separate intimation letters are sent to the candidates shortlisted for PIT/PI. The lists of candidates selected for admission are displayed on the TISS website.
