UPSC ESE 2019 Exam Pattern

The UPSC ESE 2019 exam pattern gives students an idea of how exactly the paper will be framed. The number of questions, total marks, exam mode, test duration and marking scheme of the examination are the things to look for in a pattern. For candidates of UPSC ESE 2019, it is important to go through the exam pattern as the pattern will help them prepare well for the examination. Engineering subjects for all categories will be covered in the exam. Apart from these, the paper pattern will also help the candidates know what things should be kept in mind before and during the examination. The mode of examination will be pen & paper based (offline). UPSC ESE 2019 will be both objective as well as subjective.

After clearing the Stage-I Preliminary Examination, the candidates will appear for Stage-II Mains Examination. If the candidate fails to clear the exam, then he/she will not be allowed to sit for the Mains. Prelims are further sub-divided into Paper 1 and Paper 2 Similarly, for Mains there are subdivisions Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates who will clear Stage-I and Stage-II will be eligible for Stage-III.  Stage-III is the Personality Test round, which is the interview round of ESE.

1. Is there any negative marking?

Yes, there is negative marking for objective type questions. 1/3 of the marks will be deducted as penalty for wrong ticked answer. 

2. How to understand the type of question?

Go through previous years' question papers for guidance and understanding of the subject matter in a more clear way.
