GATE 2020 counselling process will be conducted to provide admissions to those candidates who have qualified the GATE 2020 entrance exam with the minimum qualifying marks. For the year 2020, the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) will conduct a centralized counselling procedure of their own to induct eligible students who appeared in the GATE 2020 exam.
The GATE 2020 counselling process will differ as per the type of Institute selected by the candidates. For example, to secure a spot in any of the IITs via the GATE counselling process 2020, the candidates have to register themselves for the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) and based on the GATE 2020 scores, the admission to eligible candidates will be offered. However, for admission into Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and National Institute of Technology (NITs), the candidates have to register themselves, first, for Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT).
There will be several other state and private Institutes all across the country who will conduct their own counselling process based on the scores obtained by the candidates in GATE 2020.

Steps to Register for GATE 2020 Counselling
Step 1: Click on the GATE 2020 Counselling link available below.
Step 2: The candidates will be redirected to the CCMT 2020 official website.
Step 3: The candidates have to click on the ‘CCMT 2020: Online registration, Fee payment and Choice filling’ link in the Current Events section.
Step 4: For logging in, the candidates have to enter their GATE registration ID.
Step 5: The candidates then must fill all the text boxes with relevant details such as basic information, Institutes and courses.
Step 6: The candidates have to pay the registration fee online for completion of CCMT 2020 registration.
The GATE 2020 centralised counselling procedure will be conducted for admissions into M.Tech Post Graduate Programme in National Higher Educational Institutes in India. There are various GATE participating institutes that organise their own separate counselling procedures.
Candidates who wish to apply for M.Tech programmes into IITs, NITs, GFITs, and CFTIs will have to apply through CCMT (short for Centralized Counselling for M.Tech) and those who wish to apply for M.Tech programmes in IITs, they will have to apply through COAP (short for Common Offer Acceptance Portal). State and private universities will also have their own counselling process based on GATE scores.

GATE 2020 counselling will depend on GATE 2020 scores of the candidates.
In the counselling process, candidates will have to verify their documents.
There will not be any common GATE counselling for the qualified candidates of the exam.
Candidates qualifying the GATE cut-off will be eligible for GATE 2020 counselling.
For counselling, candidates will have to fill the GATE registration form, along with the counselling fees.
Admission into IITs and IISC Bangalore is done on the basis of GATE 2020 scores.
The admission procedure will be conducted on the basis of GATE 2020 scores. The choices of colleges and programmes have to submit by the applicants while filling the application form. Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria before applying.
For M.Tech programmes in IITs, the candidates will have to register through the COAP (short for Common Offer Acceptance Portal), which is a common platform for the candidates to apply for their preferred IITs. The registrations process of COAP will start after the announcement of GATE 2020 result. Candidates seeking M.Tech admissions in any of the participating Institutes of COAP and who have a valid GATE score (2019 and/or 2017 and/or 2016) can register at COAP.
Post announcement of GATE 2020 result, state universities and other private institutes will be organised the GATE counselling procedure for admission to M.Tech programmes tentatively from the month of March to July 2020. The separate application forms will have to be filled by the candidates according to the institute they are applying for. The selection process will depend upon the institutes individually.
Candidates can apply for all the 30 NITs and 9 CFTIs through GATE CCMT Counselling. Filling of programme and institute choices have to be done by the candidates after which allotment will be done according to the candidates’ rank in GATE exam and preferences selected during CCMT registration.
Detailed GATE Counselling Process 2020 through CCMT
To participate in the GATE counselling process, candidates will have to register themselves with CCMT. The admission into various post-graduate courses will depend on GATE score.
Stage 1: Registration
GATE registration is the first step in the counselling process. To take part in the counselling rounds, all the qualified candidates will have to first register themselves, failing which he/she will not be allowed to participate in the GATE 2020 counselling procedure. After registering, candidates will have to fill their correct details to proceed further.
Stage 2: Choice Filling and Locking
After successful registration, the next step that follows is choice filling and locking. Here, candidates will have to make the choices regarding the courses. It is advisable for the candidates, to fill the most preferred choice on the top. After filling the choices, candidates will have to lock their choices by using the choice locking option.
Note: No modifications shall be made in the choices after locking the same.
Stage 3: Seat Allotment
This is the most important stage of the GATE 2020 counselling process. Here, candidates will be allotted seats on the basis of the choices filled by the candidates, their rank, and the availability of seats at that rank.
Stage 4: Reporting
It is the final stage of the GATE 2020 counselling process. This stage involves reporting at the nodal centre and then document verification.

Except for the M.Mgt students, all the other students will be eligible for a scholarship from UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR/DAE(NBHM)/AICTE on the basis of their entry mode. MHRD scholarships can be availed some IISc students provided they fulfil the MHRD scholarship eligibility criteria.
