GATE 2026 Counselling

GATE 2026 counselling dates will be released in March 2026. The GATE counselling 2026 will start from by the end of March 2026. There is no centralized GATE counselling. The GATE counselling 2026 is done via CCMT 2026 or COAP 2026. If you want M.Tech admission in IITs or IISc Bangalore, you should take part in COAP (Centralized Online Admission Process). If you want M.Tech admission in NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs, you should register for CCMT ( Centralized Counselling for M.Tech). Students who will pass the GATE exam in 2026, 2025, and 2024 will be eligible to take part in the GATE 2026 counselling. The GATE counselling process includes various stages like registration, choice filling, seat allotment, document verification, fee payment, reporting, etc. There will be 10 rounds of GATE COAP 2026 counselling and 3 phases of CCMT counselling based on the GATE 2026 result.

How Will GATE 2026 Counselling be Held?

There is no centralized counselling for GATE 2026. The GATE 2026 counselling will be carried out individually through COAP and the CCMT. You have to register for the GATE counselling process via COAP or CCMT depending upon your preferred M.Tech college. The GATE admission process 2026 will be done the following two admission/counselling portals:

COAP Counselling 2026: The Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is responsible for managing the admission process for MTech courses offered by IITs. 

CCMT Counselling 2026: Centralized Counselling for MTech (CCMT) is conducted for admission to MTech programs offered by NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and CFTIs.

GATE 2026 Counselling Dates

The GATE 2026 counselling dates will be released for COAP and CCMT after the release of the result. Refer to the table below to know the GATE 2026 counselling dates.

Note: COAP Round 10 counselling will be held for IITs that choose to participate. Students only have the choices of "Accept and Freeze" or "Reject" in Rounds 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, which are regarded as separate Decisive Rounds.

*Note: Percentage conversion to CGPA or vice versa is not allowed. The course eligibility depends upon the combination of degree, streams and GATE exam. Special eligibility is required to become eligible for admission into some institutes.

GATE COAP Counselling 2026

COAP 2026 counselling dates will be released following the GATE result announcement. Students must understand that GATE COAP is not an application portal for IIT admission for MTech programs. Along with registering for COAP, you should submit separate applications to your preferred IITs and PSUs too by visiting their official website. IITs and PSUs use COAP as a gateway to upload their offers according to their selection criteria. You must register for COAP before submitting an application to any PSU or IIT, as applying to an MTech program at any participating institution requires a COAP 2026 registration number. 

GATE Admission Process at COAP

The GATE admission process through COAP will be held as follows:

Register at COAP: The COAP registration process is conducted online. You must register online via the official COAP portal. The offers made by IITs and PSUs will only be available to students who have registered with COAP.

Apply to IITs and PSUs: You should submit separate applications to the your preferred IITs and PSUs. You have to provide your COAP registration number when applying to the IITs or PSUs.

Offer rounds: The COAP offers will be released round-wise. If you have received any offers, they will show up in the COAP Dashboard when the offer round at COAP begins on time.

Choose an offer: After selecting your preferred offer, click "Accept and Freeze," "Retain and Wait," or "Reject all above and wait." Then, click "OK" to confirm. If you choose "Reject all above and wait," all offers will be turned down. Once you are happy with the offer you got, click "Freeze Decision" to submit your final choice.

Visit the institute/PSU official website for final admission: Following the selection and finalization of an offer at COAP, you must go to the official website of the IIT/PSU where you accepted the offer and finish the admissions procedure.

How to Register for COAP 2026 Counselling?

To register for the COAP 2026 counselling, follow the steps given below. 

Step 1: COAP 2026 Registration

Go to the COAP 2026 Application Portal. To start a new registration, click Register. For new registrations:

• Enter information about the GATE Paper(s) and click Register Now.
• You can add a row for more GATE papers.
• Registering in COAP requires at least one GATE Paper registration number.
• You may add additional GATE Papers after registering.

Step 2: COAP 2026 Login and Dashboard

• After successfully registering, log in using your COAP ID and password.
• Click Dashboard to access application details for all institutes and registered GATE paper(s) in COAP.

Step 3: Add more GATE papers, if applicable.

• Students can add rows for further GATE papers by clicking student Details under the login page.
• You can also delete any more rows for GATE Papers.

Step 4: Final Submission

• Go through the details provided and click on Final Submit.
• Data cannot be changed once you click Final Submit.

GATE CCMT Counselling 2026

CCMT counselling 2026 registration, choice filling, and fee payment process will likely start in May 2026. GATE admission process for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs is done through the CCMT counselling at ccmt.admissions.nic.in. CCMT counselling process includes registration, choice filling, seat allotment, documents verification, fee payment etc. CCMT counselling 2026 includes 3 main rounds and additional rounds. You can apply for all the 30 NITs and 9 GFTIs through GATE CCMT Counselling. The CCMT 2026 seat matrix has been released on the CCMT official website. GATE Admission Process Through CCMT 2026

The GATE admission process through CCMT 2026 counselling is being done as per the following process:

Stage 1: Registration

GATE registration is the first step in the counselling process. To take part in the CCMT counselling rounds, all the qualified students will have to first register themselves, failing which they will not be allowed to participate in the GATE 2026 counselling procedure. After registering, students will have to fill in their correct details to proceed further.

Stage 2: Choice Filling and Locking

After successful registration, the next step that follows is choice filling and locking. Here, students will have to make the choices regarding the courses. It is advisable for the students to fill the most preferred choice on the top. After filling the choices, students will have to lock their choices by using the choice locking option.

Note: No modifications shall be made in the choices after locking the same.

Stage 3: Seat Allotment

This is the most important stage of the GATE 2026 counselling process. Here, students will be allotted seats on the basis of the choices filled by the students, their rank, and the availability of seats at that rank. After each round of GATE seat allotment, GATE admission cutoff will be released. Those who score equal to or higher than GATE cutoff will have a higher chance of admission. Students will have the option of freeze, float and slide after seat allotment. 

Stage 4: Reporting

Those who accepts the seats will have to complete reporting and document verification at the nodal centre. Once you paid your fees, your seat will be confirmed at the participating colleges. 

How to Register for CCMT 2026 Counselling?

Follow the steps given below to register for the CCMT 2026 counselling. 

Step 1: Visit the GATE counselling official website. 

Step 2: The students have to click on the ‘CCMT 2026: Online registration, Fee payment and Choice filling’ link in the Current Events section.

Step 3: For logging in, the students have to enter their GATE registration ID.

Step 4: The students then must fill all the text boxes with relevant details such as basic information, Institutes and courses.

Step 5: The students have to pay the registration fee online for completion of CCMT 2026 registration.

Documents Required for GATE 2026 Counselling

Given below are the list of some of the documents required for the GATE counselling process:

• GATE 2026 admit card

• GATE scorecard

• Date of Birth Certificate

• Provisional seat allotment letter

• Class 12th mark sheet

• Photo ID proof

• Passport-size photograph (coloured)

• Seat acceptance fee proof

• Mark sheet of qualifying examination (all semester).

• Printout of the Registration form & locked choices.

• Category Certificate (if valid)

Financial Assistance for GATE 2026

Except for the M.Mgt students, all the other students will be eligible for a scholarship from UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR/DAE(NBHM)/AICTE on the basis of their entry mode. MHRD scholarships can be availed some IISc students provided they fulfil the MHRD scholarship eligibility criteria. The meritorious students can avail several scholarships offered by top Business tycoons and Indian & Multinational agencies.
