How to Apply for CAT 2018

The CAT application process 2018 is being conducted online by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), Calcutta. The national-level entrance exam takes place annually on a rotation basis.

Apart from the IIMs, there are many other institutions that accept CAT scorecard for admission into their management programmes. For those who are preparing to take CAT 2018, the following information about CAT application form 2018 including how to apply, application dates, eligibility, etc. can help in the CAT application process. Registration window is usually open on the official CAT website between August and September. On the basis of the CAT exam score, interested applicants can seek admission in MBA and PGDM courses across colleges in India.

The CAT application process involves three steps – Registration, Filling & Submitting the Application Form and Application Fee payment. The registration process for CAT 2018 will end on September 26, 2018.

After registering for CAT, candidates' CAT User ID and Password will be generated and sent to them on their registered email and mobile number. With the help of login credentials, candidates will be required to login to the official website and fill the CAT 2018 application form. While filling up the CAT application form 2018, candidates will be required to shortlist four exam centers in order of their preference.

The application fee can be paid either through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, BillDesk, PaytM or PayU.

Last year, as many as 2.80 lakh registrations were done for the exam. Out of that number, 2.31 lakh candidates submitted their applications along with the application fee.

Documents Required Before Filling CAT Application 2018

Before registering and filling out the application form for CAT, candidates must keep the following documents handy to avoid any hassle during the process. 

  • Class X, Class XII, Bachelor’s Degree or higher education mark sheets
  • Necessary certificates for uploading
  • Scanned images of recent passport size photograph and signatures with white background.
  • List of IIM programmes the candidates wishes to apply  

Step by Step Process to Apply for CAT 2018

CAT 2018 registration/application window opened on 8th August and will remain open until 19th September 2018. Candidates must follow these basic four steps to complete the application process for CAT 2018:

Step 1: Register to Receive User ID and Password

Candidates need to visit the official website of CAT 2018 and click on the 'Register' tab under ‘New Candidate Registration’. The registration will open where candidates will have to provide their details such as Name, Birth Date Email Address, Mobile Number, and Country. Once all the details are entered, candidates' CAT registration will be verified and authenticated through an OTP. On successful registration, candidates will receive their CAT 2018 Registration ID and Password through Email and SMS. Those who have already registered for the exam just need to click on the 'Login' tab under 'Registered Candidate Login' to go to the next step, which is filling the CAT 2018 application form.

Step 2: Login to CAT website with system generated User ID & Password

The next step in the CAT application process is to log in to the official website using the system generated User ID & Password. Using these credentials, you can log in to fill out the Application form. You need not complete the application in a single session. You can log in multiple times to complete. In cases where a candidate forgets his/her password, he/she can get a new password by clicking on the ‘Forgot Password’ tab given on the ‘Existing User’ login window. Candidates will receive the new password on their registered email IDs. 

Step 3: Fill and Submit the CAT Application

Once a user has logged in, his/her personal details will appear on the screen. To start the process of filling the online application form, candidates will be required to click on 'Go to Application Form'. In the application form, candidates will have to provide Personal Details (such as Gender, Nationality, Category, Communication Address, etc.), Academics Details (such as Scores of Class X Exam, Class XII Exam,  Bachelor’s Degree Details, Master’s Degree Details and Other Professional Course Details), Work Experience Details (if applicable, it will include industry type, number of months, etc.), Programmes (this is where candidates have to mention the IIMs where they wish to study and courses they wish to pursue), Test City (candidates will be allowed to choose any four test location as per their preference), and make the Payment of Application of Fee (BillDesk, PayU or PaytM). Candidates must upload the necessary documents (as mentioned above) in support of the details provided in the application form.

Step 4: Payment of CAT Application Fee

After the CAT application payment is done, the application for CAT 2018 will be considered complete and candidates will receive a confirmation mail on their registered email IDs. Candidates will be able to log in to the CAT website as a Registered user whenever they want in order to check the application summary.

CAT 2018 Online Application Correction

Editing any detail on the application form after the online payment will not be possible. However, there will be a limited time window during which candidates will be allowed to modify very limited details like Percentage of Marks scored, Work Experience, Programmes Selected etc. Any modification in the personal details section or academics section, except the percentage marks scored and exam center city preferences, will not be allowed.

CAT 2018 Application Fees

  • INR 950 for SC, ST and PwD category candidates
  • INR 1900 for all other categories of candidates

Important Instructions

  • A candidate must check all the eligibility requirements before applying for the CAT 2018 exam. 
  • Candidates must have a valid and unique email address and mobile number.
  • The boxes marked with the symbol 'asterisk' are mandatory fields that candidates must fill in order to submit the application.
  • Candidates must gather all the important documents and information required for filling the form, such as educational history, mark sheets (10th /12th/ Degree/Diploma), work experience, scanned images of passport size photo and signature, list of the IIM courses to apply for.
  • During the registration process, a candidate can select any four exam centers as per his/her preference. Out of all the choices given by him/her, one center will be allotted depending on the availability. If a candidate is not allotted any city out of his/her preferred locations, a nearby city will be allotted to him/her.
  • The registration fee has to be paid in online mode only. A fee of Rs 950 will be applicable on candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories whereas candidates who belong to other categories have to make a payment of Rs 1,900.
  • The registration fee has to be paid only once and it will be non-refundable.
  • At the time of registration, candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories have to upload a copy of their SC/ST/PwD certificates.
  • From 17th October, a tutorial to get an insight into the test’s format will be available on the official website of CAT.
  • Once the CAT registration is done, any change in the candidates' categories (SC, ST, OBC etc) will not be entertained.

FAQs

1. When and how do I register for the CAT? 

Online registration for CAT is usually done between the period of August and September. Additional information for the online registration is available on the CAT official website.

2. Where do I pay my fees? 

The CAT exam fee is payable at the time of online registration via a valid credit, debit card or online net banking facility.

3. Can I use my coaching institute’s or a friend’s email address when registering for CAT? 

No, you need to have a valid and unique email address. All correspondence until CAT and during the selection stage will be communicated using the email address provided by you.

4. If I have made any mistake(s) while registering for CAT, can I make changes later to rectify?

You may select 'Existing User Login' on CAT website to make changes to your personal details, such as address, educational information or exam city preferences. For security reasons, editing of candidate’s full name, date of birth, email ID, mobile no, State, and Country will not be allowed. However, if you have genuinely made a mistake in entering your Date of Birth, State, etc., you will have to show evidence of the correct data at the time of examination/interview/admission else your candidature will be nullified.

Note: The ability to edit application profile will be available only until you have not submitted the Application Form. Once you have submitted and made the exam fee payment, you will NOT be allowed to make any more changes. You may only view and print thereafter.

5. I have made mistake(s) in entering Percentage of Marks/Category/Gender/Work Experience/etc., what should I do now?

If you have made a mistake in filling out details for those fields which will affect the selection process, such as Percentage of Marks, Category, Gender, Work Experience, etc. then you are advised to re-register with a new email ID. Your CAT application will be considered for the latest registration and admit card will be issued accordingly.

Note: You will not receive a refund or admit card for your earlier registration. Failure to re-register in such circumstances may lead to the nullification of your candidature.

6. In case the website does not work and I am unable to complete my application, what should I do? 

If the registration website is not accessible for any reason, please close your Internet browser and try again. Also, ensure you are using the correct version of any of the following recommended Internet browser: Internet Explorer (version 11 and above) or Mozilla Firefox (version 50 to 61) or Google Chrome (version 50 to 69). 7. What screen appears once a candidate logs into the website post registration?

Post successful registration, you will be able to use the system generated User ID and Password to log into the website. Upon logging in, you will first see the Registration Summary page and then you can click on 'Go to Application Form'. This will direct you to the application form page.

8. What should I do if I have not received the password or have lost the SMS? 

In the event of not receiving or losing the system generated password SMS, simply click on 'Forgot Password' on the Existing User login page. You will be prompted to enter a Captcha code, post which a new password will be sent to you to your registered email address. Please note, regenerated passwords will not be sent as an SMS.

9. I am unable to view my Application Summary or Download Application Form tabs. 

You will see the two tabs, Application Summary, and Download Application Form, only if your application has been submitted with successful online payment of examination fees. Else, upon login, you will continue to see the five tabs of the Application Form.
